The final day of the 2021 Las Vegas Auction was filled with those incredible moments that only Barrett-Jackson can provide - and they just kept coming all day. Let's take a look as Tyler Hoover of ‪@HooviesGarage‬ checks out the sale of a very special fan-made replica of the Ghostbusters Ectomobile built from a 1959 Cadillac Superior hearse.
Driveable and meant for the street, this car features 11,250 miles, and is powered by a 390ci 8-cylinder V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission, both of which were rebuilt in 2012. In 2018, a replacement of the carrier bearing and driveshaft was performed, as well as a complete rebuild of the braking system to include heavy-duty truck brakes and a reconditioning of the gas tank. Some of the many upgrades for modernization and reliability include an Edelbrock carburetor, Pertronix ignition, electric fuel pump with dual front and rear filters, dual brake cylinders, separate oil and water-cooling systems with dedicated fans, conventional lug posts and dual batteries, as well as a GelCell for the car and a deep-cycle for the accessories. The twin alternators put out 440 amps to assure peak voltage in a slow parade with all the features turned on. The external PA system and internal/external stereo run separately from each other, which allows both to be used at the same time, playing the stereo externally while either talking to the crowd on the PA or running the siren. The seats and interior are all original and the dash is autographed by eight members of the cast and crew. The roof rack collapses at the hit of a button and the laser turret can be remote-controlled from two different positions in the car, or by using a handheld remote when walking outside. The car's five cameras can be viewed from three monitors inside the car. The suspension was enhanced to support the additional thousand pounds of weight from all the additional equipment. Additionally, the car comes with all props and accessories, which include four Proton Packs, the stretcher rack and other ghost-catching equipment. The Proton Packs are about 35 pounds each and can be worn. Each pack contains lights and a portable stereo system, and are each approximately valued at $1,500. All movie props and accessories seen in the pictures are included, as well as a few uniform flight suits in various sizes.

I'm right there with ya, and thanks for the support. No matter how much time and money I put into it, some internet know-it-all will always have to claim "not screen accurate!" so that they can feel like a valid adult. ....sad. I challenge them all to just build their own.

@@riversider2506 So in regards to that, it has improvements that made Ivan Reitman state his car never did that but he wished it had. For a true 1:1 replica look up Sean Bishop's Ectomobile or Loren Baldwin's, but don't expect those to fetch as much as this one because massive upgrades were put into it. I don't just mean props but the important things, like a weight distribution system that allows to car to travel with all that weight on one side but still balance evenly, not tilted to one side. Also, it starts and runs. Our Barrett Jackson driver here was pleasantly surprised that all he had to do was turn the key and it started. Most replicas, and certainly not the screen used car, can do that. You can't conceive of how many truly important things had to be done to make it work.

@@fifthrider about the film car not being able move under it's own power, there is a video of the Ect-ohio (Loren's car) trying to be started multiple times, after he couldn't start the car, he gave up. It's on his channel, "The Auto Collection"

It was years for them to make that one. It was their project and they had full costumes they wore when taking it in public. They've moved on to new things.

Yep, notice how they haven't said "replica", that is because this car is really more of a tribute car really because it doesn't actually have alot of screen accurate props in it. This is probably more of based if the Ghostbusters were to branch out even though it's a 59 and besides, I've always liked the Superiors "pie" windows (complete with chrome trim on the edges) over MMs design

Correct. The original is NOT in good condition, this is even after it's $100k restoration by Cinema Vehicle Services back in 2008. Although they did a nice job on the body and paint, the original has chrome items ( siren beacon ) that were just spraypainted silver. Yuck. At least my replica had CHROMED beacons! Also, the original Ecto is missing the red lens on the propelloray so what did the studio do? They spraypainted it red! Are you still impressed by the original? The original, even after that $100k restoration does not drive under it's own power. It needs about four production assistants to load it into/off of the trailer if it goes to an event. By contrast my *recreation* as you put it has driven 15,000 miles on the steep hills of California freeways for the last 11 years. Look, I know we all have respect for the original first and foremost but unless you've been elbow deep in the issue like I have you just can't scratch the surface. There is more value in a running car like my car that sold here. It WORKS. God bless the original but it will never drive to see you, you can only visit it in person on Sony's lot where it can be observed to be returning to rust in many locations. I really hope the guys at BC Delorean enjoy this. To recap something I mentioned above, when the time came to go to auction block, many of these cars for sale could not start and needed their hoods open to be jumped one last time to get it across. NOT THIS CAR. Our driver proudly flipped that key and watched this ol' girl fire right up on command. You have no idea how much work went into making that one thing happen ON DEMAND, every time. Damn right I'm proud of that replica. Best damned street worthy Ectomobile ever made.

Honestly, I think I'd rather have a recreation anyways. The original car isn't in that good of a condition and I can't trust myself enough to drive with this piece of history.

@@riversider2506 yes the movie car still *EXISTS*, it is on display on the Sony lot, in front of Ghost Corps. But however though, many fans have pointed out that it is already probably in need another restoration

@@aussiefurbymogwaifan6621 Ugh, so true. So true. It can't even run. :-( So much rust and so much spraypaint in places it could have been chromed. Many of us local SoCal GB fans offered to help, out of pocket! We would have cheerfully had the parts rechromed at local stops but the continued offer by Sean Bishop and Co was politely declined. There's got to be easily located pics of it online that anyone can see. The whip antennas on either side aren't elegantly mounted into antenna holders, but rather someone just used pliers to bend the antenna wire to wrap around the roof rack. (grimace) Not only is that NOT how you do it, it takes more effort to do it the wrong way. I can knock out a part for each side in my shop in 30 minutes! I wished they would have let me have a shot at it.

@@fifthrider time for another petition then? Honestly I reckon GB, Ghost Corps and the original Ecto could be better off in someone else's hands. Like why haven't Ivan and Dan talked about owning the rights to Ghostbusters, just like how Bob Gale owns the rights to BTTF? I reckon this is just more than a restoration that we should be petitioning for hun

If you've seen the real Ecto-1 you would know this car is not screen accurate at all.

Um but it *DOSEN'T* always have to be about screen accuracy, it can be about fan spirit too! Even in the title notice it says "recreation" instead of replica, the screen used Ecto itself isn't actually screen accurate anymore! Also besides, I like the design of the '59 Superiors chrome trimmed "pie" windows at the back better compared to the traditional Miller-Meteors
