Full Frame 5D Mark 4 over 6D Mark 2. Personally id shoot with the 80D become a better photographer then upgrade .

I have used the 80D since it came out, just love it! Being from South Africa I prefer wildlife and bird photography, I do the odd wedding, engagements and general family photo shoots but would much rather do some landscape pics. In all areas the camera really performs well, no matter if it is with the 17mm or the 600mm Sigma contemporary lense. For me personally it would be difficult to move right now, I to would rather wait for the up coming announcements before making a decision. The 80D is an awesome camera!

Would keep the 80D and get the Mark IV down the road. Continue learning and taking pictures. Also would not heavily invest in crop lenses. Build your future lens collection around EF mounts. One more thing, lighting is key. Think AD200 flash to go with your current kit and expand your creativity in manual mode.

The 7DM2 has a great, fast AF system, I believe the same as the 1DX. I shoot birds and other wildlife with it. It's faster burst rate of 10 FPS (the 5DM4 is 7 FPS) is ideal for fast-moving subjects. I also own the 5DM4. Great for landscapes. Its AF grid is kinda small in the viewfinder as it's close to the same size as the APSC cameras, but on a FF sensor. That makes it hard to focus on subjects near the screen's periphery, especially if moving. I'm awaiting Canon's mirrorless release to see if exchanging the 7DM2 for it makes sense as a nature/wildlife/macro body. The 5DM4 is a great landscape and portrait body, so I'm keeping it regardless.

Hello, As a fashion and event photographer I currently use the 80D as well. Is very solid and all around system with 0 failures or any issues quite frankly. If he shoots sport, you may want to stay with it as APSC gives you that extra range...what he needs is good zoom glass. An extra...shoots awesome video (if he needs it). For music events....men go with something with hight ISO (usable ISO). I used Canon MarkIII, which is still a solid performer anywhere nowdays, and whith out breaking the bank.

6D2 is essentially an 80D anyway. I would say keep your 80D and spend the money replacing your Sigma 70-300 with a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II. That will give you much better looking image quality, lower ISO and faster AF. You won't see a vast improvement from the full frame cameras because the bottleneck in your setup at the minute is the lenses

@@gregoryduran8938 - Cheers Greg, not a problem. I just definitely think you should upgrade your glass before you change your body because you could likely find the 80D with the 70-200 fulfils your needs and you don't need a different body, but if you change body first you will definitely need to change your lenses anyway to see a difference

I am shooting with 80D for a year now. Very nice camera. Invest in a glass first, I have Sigma 18-35 f1.8 ART, Sigma 50mm F1.4 and Canon 85mm F1.8. Now I am waiting for Canon 70-200 F4. If You have the budget go with Dave's advice and buy Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS. Essentially on 80D this is 100-300 mm because of crop factor, very nice focal range for Sports and even wildlife. Canon 80d has newly developed sensor that is capable of high dynamic range and allows of lot of post production changes if You shoot in RAW. When you invest in lenses you will see dramatic change in quality of your photographs.

Next week Canon is going to be making some huge announcements so I would definitely wait and see what Canon is cooking!! The 80D is a very capable DSLR so I would personally hold on to that until Canons new full frame mirrorless drops which now that Nikon & Sony have full frame mirrorless, its not a questions as to if Canon is going to release one the question is simply when. My guess is that will be sooner rather than later!! Good luck!! :-)

I use a 6D (Mk1) and have looked at the 6D Mk2. I honestly don't see it as much of an upgrade over the 80D, especially as the 80D gives you 1.6x extra "reach" for sports photography lenses. The 5D Mk4 is a clear upgrade but at what cost??!!! The one reason I'd pay for the 5D Mk4 is that it's likely to become a camera you keep, and use, for a decade or more. They are built like tanks and (let's be honest) have everything you need. Specifications have hit a plateau with the 5D and Nikon D850 where still-images are concerned. If I had to choose just one camera, for the next 10 years, I'd definitely spend the money on a 5D Mk4. If you said it needed to be a video camera as well then I simply wouldn't look at Canon or Nikon. If you need quality video for the next decade then you have to look at Sony. Canon dropped the ball on high-quality DSLR video (and I hate to say that because I'm a Canon fan-boy). Summary..stick with the 80D, it's a fabulous camera.

I kept my 80D and did not "upgrade" to the 6DII. I did not think it was a worthy upgrade. The 80D has better dynamic range too, but the 6DII is really good at high iso.

Unless budget is a hard factor, I'd say you need both full frame and crop sensor. I use both 80D (I still use my 70D) and a 5D3. Some situations such as an airshow or birds, a crop sensor is better. For low light or in doors Full frame is better. I think a crop sensor is better for sports because of reach. I agree with Matt, now's a good time to wait.

Since Greg does not like small cameras, Canon FF mirrorless when released will hardly be a larger body camera, but agree with Matt to wait and see. 5D mk IV is the best low-light offering (outside pro-grade $3,000+) for concerts etc. 5D mk IV has also a very responsive AF for sports, etc.

Greg, I agree with Matt, wait for the new camera line-up and then buy the last generation cameras because prices will have dropped substantially. BUT... 80D is a fantastic camera, keep learning with it... perhaps invest in wide angle lenses (14mm or 8-16mm??) to get some nice photos with it? Just my 2 cents mate ;)

If you like the m50 and you just had to upgrade to something right this moment I would upgrade to either a RP or an R that’s going to fix the. problem of it being a little too small and it will give you back your EVf and face detect af but at least as for me I make RU-vid videos and a shoot portraits so at least for me super high frame weights deep buffers and Complex tracking auto focus isn’t really important for me

Shoot that 80D for a while, it's a good all-arounder. Wait to see what happens with Canon's announcements over the next year. *Be sure if you're pretty certain you're eventually moving into Canon full-frame bodies, to buy EF mount lenses, not APS-C specific lenses, so you carry that investment over with you.

Some new and exciting things will be happening in photo equipment. In addition to the expected full frame Canon mirrorless camera, there is an expected Sony 6700 or 7000 (whichever they will call it) which is rumored to be a crop sensor version of the Sony A9. In addition to these cameras; I was told while visiting the Canon Service Center in Costa Mesa, California, that the staff there are very excited about the coming 7D3 which they say will be introduced this month (September 2018). They claimed that the specs of this camera are mind boggling but, would go no further than that. Now, as far as the 6D2 being an upgrade of the 80D, that is a very touchy subject. It definitely SHOULD have been but, IMO, that camera fell far short of the expected mark. The dynamic range is inferior to the 80D and the focus capabilities (the same AF array as in the 80D) fall far behind the 80D because the 80D focus array is jammed into the center of the frame. You cannot pick up a focus point towards the edges of the frame unless you are operating in Live View mode using the great Dual Pixel CMOS AF of that camera. However, this will negate the use of the eye level viewfinder. IMO, the OP should concentrate on getting the best imagery on his 80D. It seems like he is jumping from camera to camera trying to get the best imagery possible. Sure, the new 7D3 or Sony 6700/7000 are still a crop cameras but, here is a hint! If a photographer is not getting very good to excellent imagery with a very decent crop camera such as the 80D along with some very good glass; a full frame camera will not be a magic wand that will transform mundane imagery to National Geographic quality pictures.... If I were giving him advice, I would recommend him sitting on his wallet for a while and see what he can do with his present camera and then look at what is coming down the road.
@richardpcrowe
@richardpcrowe 5 лет назад
A few additions to my remarks about the 6D2: 1. I find the 1/4000 second shutter speed restrictive when I want to shoot wide open with a fast lens for shallow DOF (in either sports or portraiture) 1/8000 would give an extra stop to play with... 2. I love the Touch Screen control of the 6D2 for studio work and consider this absolutely amazing for focus stacking. However, when I wanted to work tethered and add the excellent TetherTools USB cables, I realized that the ancient USB-2 capability of the 6D2 prevents me from using the best available TetherTool USB cable which requires a USB-3 connection... 3. Finally, for sports, the 6.5 FPS burst speed of the 6D2 is simply lethargic for today's cameras. The buffer size of the 6D2 is also not quite adequate for sports shooting either especially since the highest speed SD card is slower that the highest speed CF cards which can be used by the 7D2... 4. I own both cameras and would never choose the 6D2 ahead of the 7D2 for sports or action photography... Sure it is easy to say that photographers got along quite well for a long time with slow burst speeds or with just single shot shooting. They also got along quite well using zone focus and no auto focus. But, Gee Whiz, this is 2018 and we are no longer lugging press cameras to shoot sports. If we are buying new gear, lets get the best technology available.

thanks Richard! I plan on keeping the 80D and work on my skills, the T6i was a cheap learning device which enabled me to grow and when the opportunity to upgrade came and i had a buyer for the T6i i jumped on it. The M50 was and is a really good camera for most just ergos were a problem. Just considering a full frame either mirror less or not to expand and grow. I will wait to hear what the new Camera releases have to bring. As a 55 year old man who always wanted to get into Photography as early as my 20's , i couldn't because I was broke. Now that I'm older and more affluent thankfully, I can enjoy the things that I wasn't able to afford at a younger age! Riding Race motorcycles and High end Bicycles over the past 20 years has really made photography seem relatively reasonable in comparison. So since i don't drink , party or do stupid stuff with my hard earned money. Photography is a great way to spend money and a passion of mine that i can now enjoy and not feel like kids are going hungry by dong so lmao!!! thanks Richard, and thanks for all of the sincere comments and helpful opinions, greatly Appreciated for sure, Greg

Learn the craft. Doesn't matter which camera you use until you learn how to use it. A new camera will only make your images better if you know how it will make your images better.
@drutgat2
@drutgat2 5 лет назад
Actually, if he keeps dropping the M50, then, yes, it does matter. One of the reasons many people have different preferences from each other, when all other things are equal (specs., price) is that ergonomics, layout of menus, and those kinds of things I would consider 'secondary' considerations, can become primary considerations. My favourite guitar is too heavy for me to gig with - it has the best sound, but actually injures me if I play it beyond a half hour or so because of its weight.
@randymyers8600
@randymyers8600 5 лет назад
He sold the M50 so those concerns are no longer in play.
@drutgat2
@drutgat2 5 лет назад
Exactly. He sold it because it prevented him from being able to learn the craft. Also, part of learning the craft (or is it an art?) as you described it, is to play around with the tools of the craft in order to experience the possibilities and limitations of those tools. Prior to doing my B.A. in Photography, Film, and TV I had no experience of using view cameras (or even medium format cameras, really), but using those expanded my imagination in terms of what was possible.
@randymyers8600
@randymyers8600 5 лет назад
I guess I'm slow because I didn't see a reason to comment on something that wasn't relevant to his current situation which is what the video was about. No idea what your point is, but congratulations on your B.A., although I'm not sure how that is relevant to question at hand.
@drutgat2
@drutgat2 5 лет назад
Just to be very clear...I was making the point that it can matter what camera one uses in response to your original comment, in which you said, "Doesn't matter which camera you use until you learn how to use it" - you were the one who made that comment, not me. I was simply responding to that comment of yours. And having a B.A. does not matter, I was simply giving some context to having been exposed to using different types of cameras - i.e., that (once again, in response to the point you actually made) it can matter what camera one uses, because it can affect one's learning of the "craft", and the inspiration one gets from it. To use another guitar analogy, there are plenty of people, myself included, who started on terrible guitars, which prevented us from even being able to change chords fluidly. My first guitar's action (height of the strings about the fingerboard) was almost a centimetre. Another example of needing the right tools for the job, and of the wrong tools getting in the way.
