I'm not claustrophobic, but the absence of windows in the office area makes me uncomfortable. I couldn't work for hours in such a room. (I know there's a skylight, but it's not the same.) For the rest, it's a nice studio!
Windows are a must. Without windows, you almost feel robotic at the end of the day; you need those brief pauses of looking out the window, airing out the room or listening to the sound of life coming from outside.
Disclosure: I'm a new fan. I just have to say thank you for the amazing and entertaining content you create and for being so inspiring. Your light-hearted spirit is a breath of fresh air as I sit here going through you tube university for hours on end trying to super-charge/fast-track my photography skill set (yeah, newbie). I usually don't leave comments and you will probably never see this but just wanted to say I was inspired to drop a comment because I was starting to feel overwhelmed and discouraged and noticed you streamed this video on none other than my big 4-0 years of life on planet earth with the word "DREAM" in the caption as I dream about this new photography venture that has been overwhelming and exciting and at the same time, scary AF (not referencing Auto-Focus, get it, photography joke. I must be official. Ha. Or a big dork. Probably the latter.) Anyway, THANKS for making me feel inspired and like this was a sign from the Universe to keep moving forward.
The overhead of nice office space begins to wear you down over time. There is something to say about scaling down so you can scale up creatively. Nice job!
There's something I think many people aren't saying. Peter McKinnon makes you love anything. From the room office, to the office with Matti, to the dream studio, to this! And even the next one! It's a great one!
Quick Tip: I know you got the sandbags as a counterweight on your c-stand but you usually put the tightening screw for the arm on the right side so that it can't get lose over time.
So rad! I just did the same thing downsizing my studio space and partnered with a marketing group training one of their staff to run the studio and offer more services to their clients… Moved only the gear that is needed to achieve the goal. Simple neat and clean no nonsense! Congrats and keep climbing bro!
@@igugulethu7 ok... It's a basic/fundamental studio space, is it not? And he made it into something a lot of small time content creators would dream of, did he not?
But is not (even near) a “basic” studio! With all those quality lights and cams, you name it… is a dream studio for most of us. It is what it is and it is a dream studio.
I want something just like that, not within my budget right now but maybe in a couple of years. I suck at designing a studio and still trying to figure mine out. Working outside is definitely nice, I got an amazing view in my backyard when its not 110 outside right now.
11:02 these shots were so good I bet a lot of people looked over how much effort went into that sequence he even acted surprised at the end when you jumped over!
Lots of businesses now are getting back to work and getting new locations post pandemic. It's really good to see! Great efforts and good luck as there is more work ahead.
Love how you can make the basic nothing look so nice. Definitely can see the experience coming through. I can’t stop seeing the drop tile ceiling with the air vents though. Maybe it can be blacked out or something? Curious what ideas you may have to help clean that up too. Can’t wait to see the evolution of the new space!!
Audio guy here. I would definitely do a bass rolloff on your voice to get rid of that hum. The HS7's only go down to 43hz in a good room, meaning you'll miss some of the sub-bass that pops up in different locations, so doing a rolloff (high pass, low cut) all the time would be wise. I would recommend starting at 80 or 85hz and adjusting up or down from there. You may also be able to do this on the C500 mkII to save time in post.
There are many ways in life that the power of youth is highly beneficial; however, the one thing that youth could never synthesize is the benefit of age and experience. Bigger isn’t always better… less is often times MORE… and, simplicity is the key to success. I love this current evolution you’ve entered into, Pete. Going back to what made you who you currently are! Good luck and have fun, brother. I’m glad to be along for the ride.
I gotta say... it almost feels like STARTING OVER and I find that very exciting. I'm sure I speak for everyone here that I feel fortunate to be a part of the new UPCOMING CHAPTERS! Good Luck my Brothers!
Hey pet ! How are you doing? I just wanna say thank you form the deepest part of my heart When I frustrated and depressed immediately go to your YT channel watch some videos it's all about you man not about the content you make, I don't know how to explain my feelings but i feel so happy when I watch your videos I just love who you are and I love your personality, I am from Syria I have been through a lot my life has been so hard but I am trying always to move on, And you being there amazing for me, thank you for being who you are thank you for the good videos thank you for your hard work, Thank you for helping me man you have no idea what you did in my life. Nothing but love and respect keep it up you are the man you are it. Thank you Peter 💙 Congrats bro lit studio.
You know Pete, you're one of the amazing photographers I follow! I really want to go on a shoot with you someday and learn a lot from your experiences.
Going downstairs to grab a coffee and have a bit of social interaction is so important to keep those creative juices flowing. Liking this new place, feels like a start-up company vibe thing
I'm trying to build out my basement into a studio. Low ceilings unfortunately, BUT I would absolutely love a video on how you set up your main angle!! I need advice!
Hey, I actually work as a Health and Saftey co-ordinator and looking at the wires I thought it looked like a distater waiting to happen. But it got be thinking. The light above your desk, how hot does it typically get? If it often gets quite hot maybe not have it touching the roof tiles 😀
Coffee shop downstairs…but did you also say MEXICAN restaurant?!? That is a great combination! Glad you and Kirk are enjoying your journey towards chapter 5 !
How do you turn the key light up so much without light spilling into the space behind you? I'd also love to see a tutorial on crafting an epic video background on a budget! Lighting, placement, etc.
with light dome's you can have these filters that direct the light your using to focus one a specific place instead of leaking and filling a room. The filter looks like a net made up of little squares, that goes over the dome.
Creativity is ever evolving. That means sometimes it means we need to switch up our space. Which allows our creativity to continue to flow. Can’t wait to see your new space Pete!!
As cheesy as this is going to sound, if it weren't for Pete and following his life and listening to his experiences... I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing. I wouldn't be where I'm at. Thank you for taking us along on these journeys Pete.
Curious to see if you do any ceiling-mounted lights with the drop ceiling in your new office. I have a similar setup and would love to make the most out of the space by removing the footprints of lighting stands.
@@OGtalks True, but even high powered LED Film lights produce heat, specially over time, not enough to start a fire per say, but still something to be careful of. Aperture and Arri lights specially as they are meant to be used over a long period of time, so do very much create heat.
I don't know about you but I totally noticed a ton of sensor wobble in that video. Especially when you and Kirk were in the "public space" greenery area. Continuing on, the temp studio looks great!
Those desks are 🔥🔥🔥There’s a design or PR firm here in Minneapolis where basically the whole company worked at one long a$$ desk. So cool! Also Pete at West Elm that desk you made would be like 4K.😂 Well done!
Just slap a hi-pass filter at about 80hz on the mic in the main shot and that should take care of most of the low frequency hum of the overhead HVAC unit. I mostly heard it out of my subwoofer, so I bet 80hz and below are the offending frequencies. Keep up the good work on the new space! The challenges are what make it fun.
Been a fan since way back when you where shooting videos at the home office with gear in closet. It has been fun to follow you over the years. Also cool to see how many people you have inspired along the way.
you should really put your speakers on stands to make full use of their potential, right now they are mechanically coupled to the desk which isn't optimal for many reasons, also stands will put the tweeters at ear-height which is generally what you want. little money needed, great effect. great studio though, i'm sure you'll bust out great work :)
Congrats! Looks great. Caution with the coffee… a little goes a long way. The more you have, the more you need to maintain caffeinated levels. It IS a drug and eventually can cause GERD, digestive issues, sleep challenges, caffeine rebound headaches and more.
I’m an architect, I always thought that your dream studio was really cool but was more oriented to a corporate-ish / medium sized firm (10-20 people around). Based on years of watching you, it seems like a loft/art space made more sense. Probably how many sets and how often you want to setup equipment would be the drawback of the loft idea.
Bro your intro is such a flex I can't man P.S. If you have any giveaways for a camera in mind PLEASE do a Canon C100 MK2 one. Would be very, VERY appreciated.
Yo! Just bought your bag with Gomatic. So nice and practical, and top quality! Best of all, the smell of new stuff😅🤩 Congrats with a new start. Chapter 4, here we go!
Peter, you could significantly enhance your gear if to you realigned your EPS conduits with a type 2 phase inducer. Then reconfigure your Heisenberg compensators and remodulate the flux capacitor with a spanner coil. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I took an entire semester of engineering at junior college.
Since watching you pre 100K, I've got one BIG question for ya Pete. What focal length is the main angle shot at? It's been great watching your progression over the years.
