I do not think many of you understand what this type of boat is used for. The canal system over there is if I understand about 15 ft wide maybe 14 so boat owner or operator does not have to worry about wind or a lot of current. These boats make maybe 3 or 4 mph. They are not made for rivers or lakes they do not have watertight doors on the sides so would easily sink if water came over the side which it would in a river or lake if wind blowing or just turning sideways in a river like the Mississippi in high water the water would climb that high and sink it in a matter of a minute or so. I worried about turning North in Mississippi River and had watertight doors but dogged them with a sledge hammer when river was 12 feet stage and over at NOLA which is high water. You would never stop a boat like this going down Mississippi with a 52 Hp engine. The canals and slow speed make it safe over there but only thing we have here that may be comparable is sections of Erie Canal and it is even at least twice the size of the English Canals maybe much more not familiar with it. If you built one here and did not intend to use it except as a house it would work. I have been on most all the major rivers in the US and both Gulf and Atlantic ICW's and never seen one of these in all my years as a Licensed Operator of Uninspected Towing Vessels which later became Inspected Towing Vessels and also added Captain as higher classification than Operator to License although all the operators could hold a Captain's License. I held other licenses no one would dream of taking one of these offshore so no need to mention them. I hope this clears up some of the confusion but still I can see wanting one they are beautiful I would be afraid to run one and I have years of experience. My license alone required 3 years of being onboard 2 years and working 12 hours a day and that is just to be able to take the test for the License. That requires a lot of study and almost always a school. I hope this helps and I understand why you would want one I would love one even if I had to use it as a house and never move it. lol Thanks

The only reason im not a multi-millionaire is because i have moral fiber and exquisite integrity. I cant deceive people just to make a buck. Its not in my nature. @@caper713 She would because the boat would be on the bottom. It is made for a narrow canal not a lake or open water. I would be hesitant to take it pass any pass on the Gulf Intercoastal and you may have to wait on a tide change to even go up current in spots. No way you cross the Mississippi Sound or even Mobile Ship Channel with that. Pensacola no way it would make it even in good weather. Petit Bois it would sink, same for Horn Island pass, or cross the Mississippi going west. It would not make Houston ship channel may not even get to it before it sank. It would not go down Mississippi either not enough HP to stop and if you came out of a lock into the River in High water it could sink before you got it turned north you could turn south but then not sure you could stop anywhere going down river either even below Baton Rouge. Atlantic Intercoastal also has several passes especially in Florida. The Erie Canal or something like that may be possible I have not been on it so do not know. I have no been on one of these boats but with a 10' beam and 52 Horsepower places you can go would be few and far between in US.

@@andrewfyakim525 I am not sure if it works the same over there but here you can get a special permit to run up to 70 feet wide in Gulf Intercoastal. Normal max is 54 ft wide and most are 50 feet or 35 feet. I think someone told me over there to run 12 feet wide you have to have an Escort boat. I do not know but assume you would have to meet other boats in a certain area because two boats could not pass in some areas especially if it is only 14 ft wide in some places. I am sure someone can tell you where to find the rules for running the canals over there.
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 5 лет назад
Captain Jim It's very different here! For a start, a significant proportion of our canals are restricted to boats no wider than 6ft 10 inches, as the locks were built 7ft 2 inches wide, for long, thin horse drawn boats. Anything over 6ft 10 inches is considered a wide beam and limited to canals with double width locks first designed to allow two traditional narrow craft to ascend or descend together. The width is therefore limited by the infrastructure rather than by regulations. On rivers etc boats can be much wider, but the majority of widebeam houseboats are 12ft. This is because they can be transported by road by the shell manufacturer, any wider needs a police escort, specialist equipment etc which adds significant cost. In terms of licensing, a boat must be licensed to use the canals, but the user doesn't. For some rivers a VHF radio licence is needed to communicate with the waterway authorities and commercial shipping.

Matthew Davies People in the U.K. don't generally cook in microwaves, there is no need for high power ones as the most service they will ever see is heating the occasional supermarket ready meal. Everyone has one, but I don't know anybody who actually uses one for proper cooking of any kind. BTW... I was also the one who fished the bodies of people who were rich enough to buy a boat but apparently too poor to know what to do with it. And to carry the man breathing out the side of his throat, because apparently buying a boat is cheap, but getting basic instruction on how to operate one was too expensive.THAT is *_WHAT_* I am. Now take you sanctimony and shove it up you a**.
@daetslovactmandcarry6999

Actually I pulled the body out of Lake Michigan. Of a three year old. because mommy and daddy thought channel 9 was for emergencies. Because they didn't BOTHER to find anything out about boats other than the _PAYMENT PLAN._ At least Mark had the wisdom to know WHEN to stop. Fun fact; Nobody should be allowed to ENTER a boat showroom or purchase a used boat until after they've completed Crew Seamanship Manual, COMDTINST M16114.5C. EDIT; That "carry a man" part, that was Rio V. Carried him from our boat to the helicopter (they landed at the station).

Hi Andrew, " Or worse someone who is disabled" what are you inferring here? that someone who is disabled could not live on it?
@kitsouk1
@kitsouk1 5 лет назад
@@keithglaysher737 I lived on a boat for 6 years and every year during the holiday season, I had to help boaters in distress, I also have had to witness the deaths of more than enough people to know that owning and operating a boat is not something you should do unless you are fit, capable, and knowledgeable about boating. I am telling you and anyone who is disabled and thinks they can live on a narrowboat or any other boat that, unless their boat is moored at a marina, or they have fully capable friends or family that will help them should they decided to go out on the water, that they are a danger to them selfs and others outside of a safe setting, i.e moored at a marina. Operating a boat is not easy, anyone that says it is, is lying.(Period) Have a happy New year, and be safe on the water.

I have my Yachtmaster offshore qualifications & many happy & safe passages made around British & foreign waters, I was only rescued once by another yacht owner, while becalmed with a failed engine on the Hamble estuary & have completely failed at falling overboard or being a danger to myself, my crew or my vessel, so take your opinion & put it where the sun doesn't shine. It's a good job I do not take any notice of dissenters like you as because all I would have to worry about is guys 'like you 'parking in the disabled bays at Sainsbury's., your comments taken with a pinch of salt. How much is the shipping cost to Texas
@captainjim6300
@captainjim6300 5 лет назад
No where you could run a boat like that in Texas to my knowledge and I have been on most of intercoastal even up into Houston and into Port Arthur and Beaumont. If you were going to simply dock it that may work. The problem would be getting it from Houston, Port Arthur or Beaumont or even further to get it to where you want it. It would take perfect weather to move it on Intercoastal and still may need a Tug to help. It still would be questionable if it could make any pass without sinking. Add all that to the enormous cost to ship it via a ship that transports boats would likely cost at least half what it is worth if not all. They have transporters that bring Yachts across the Atlantic all the time. They are basically a floating drydock that can sink enough to load each boat and all boats are assembled and loaded at one location in a couple days. The transport ships have to work it out where each of the boat they are going to transport will go. They have to get it all worked out and build whatever they need to rest the boat on before they even lower and the transporter then raise the transport ship up with the boats. They usually move several boats to make a profit when they make the crossing. Then it has to be heavily secured to deck of transport ship. Not but 3 or 4 ships that do this to my knowledge.

Don't put refrigeration units in an enclosed box! How are they going to shed heat if they are surrounded by hot air from the unit itself? On a hot day those things will be pulling power continuously.
