Nice soldering job. I'm lately working on Qfn packages and I haven't really gotten it right but with time it will be fine. Thanks and more videos.

Thank you for the reply I found this one of the easiest ways to get them right and if you have a practice board you will get the hang of it quickly

Makes sense to use solder paste less complex easy method 👌

It takes almost no solder on the ground plane to get a full bond. If you're getting solder balls pushed out, you've got too much solder on the pad. Just like heatsink compound, a very small amount of solder on the ground plane will spread out and fill the gap perfectly.

You are correct about that solder bulge on ground pad is too much. Discovered that in hard way :D

Thank God I am not the only one freaked out by the gobs of solder applied.

i call this one the squish-en-blob method. Works perfectly when soldering QFN

Tx I am building up courage to do this myself by watching a lot of these videos. I have not decided yet, but I need some mcp23s17 i/o expanders. For some weird reason they are completely sold out with some stock left here and there and new stock arriving over a half year or so. So at first I wanted to use the tsop package with the 1.27 mm pitch. But sold out. Then the tssop package with the .65 mm pitch. There was some stock left, but I gave it a week, not sure I could do .65mm, it looks all very cool under the microscope but when you realize how tiny it really is... So after that week thinking about it that stock was gone, and so now I am left with the Qfn package or wait a half year... Ok, let me think about that... 🙂

Is there no risk of getting a short between the thermal pad and the pins? (Louis Rossmann would say: you are not using enough flux! 🙂 )
@Jungleju1ce
@Jungleju1ce Год назад
No never happened me but maybe its possible if the chip is not pressed flat to the board.next time i will use a louis rossman amount of flux thanks for the tip:)
@Wingedmechanic
@Wingedmechanic Год назад
With that kind of overflow, how do you know if it bridges some pads under the chip?
@Jungleju1ce
@Jungleju1ce Год назад
Run the iron along the side to remove the bridges and check with the microscope
@markmarian621
@markmarian621 Год назад
@@Jungleju1ce He mentioned the internal bridges. For example a data line bridges with big ground pad. This type of bridges you can't see, but a good quality flux don't let to be happen. After you can do diode measures if you know what is the data lines.
