A quick demonstration of soldering a willowleaf blade to an Aberdeen hook to create a shad fishing lure variously referred to as a flutterspoon, a willowleaf, or a shad blade.
The apparatus I am using to hold the hook is a fly-tying vise, with a special c-clamp that attaches to the rod of the vise; the c-clamp in turn holds that short piece of hard maple that supports the bottom of the blade so the two pieces that are being soldered together are "press-fit". There are surely other methods out there to hold the blade and hook together so your hand(s) are free to solder the joint, but this is the way I fell on about 10 years ago, and I haven't changed it since. I really like this method's ability to position the hook shank directly over the point of the willofleaf blade, for a perfectly centered flutterspoon
Please forgive the focus -- it's an old camera.
Enjoy.
