Your guess is as good as any. My personal theory is that the Russians actually DID manage to create something to combat a supe as powerful as Soldier boy. It would make sense that, while America would see Soldierboy and Payback as great heros, the rest of the world would most likey see it as another threat from the US (One can only imagine just how terrified some world leaders were the moment Homelander was added to the board). Thus they most likely spent the following years after WW2 developing Anti - Supe weaponry in secrecy.

Well, at the end of the comics; the Military coat the tips of their rockets and weapons with stuff that can easily penetrate Super Humans. If I had to guess, they discovered it; but need to experiment more. We already know Love Sausage is in The Boys, so I have a feeling the Russians might be playing a bigger role soon.

They definitely buffed Soldier Boy in the show. In the show he was said to of been almost as strong as Homelander physically. Then he got captured by the Russians and got even more juiced up with a new power to remove super powers from blasting them with an energy attack. Gonna be an epic 1v1 showdown.

Frankly Jensens soldier boy is not based on the comic books. Kriipke told Jensen NOT to read the comics to get an idea of how to play him. Jensens soldier boy is Kripkes vision not the comics. It is just the character was taken from the comic.

The show is doing a good job at making every Supe looks cool and powerful, even the ones that are only there to get their asses kicked. I mean, Gunpowder and Crimson were nobodies in the comics but their show counterparts racked up body counts of their own and didn’t go down easy. Also, Soldier Boy is hyped up to be HL level in recent episodes but he can’t even take Butcher in the comics (Butcher has V but still).

The Boys is universe that works better in the show.. Like they wanted it to be grounded, and so far it is. Making Herogasm just one house party makes a lot more sense.. As is making the Superhero deaths more rare. I think in part season 3 was just making time before Homelander wants to take over the world, would feel weird if he did it right after season 2.. But now? It's working super smoothly.

I love this show because if there is ever a league of super humans this is what it will be and people will find a way of monetising it. Though it sounds impossible but I believe modifying genes is the closest we can get to making a super human and yes you need money for the research and no one will pour in money without future gains.

Also remember the original author was deeply bitter towards both superheroes as a genre and American comic book publishers. It was mainly a matter of his ego being bruised because he couldn't make the publishers jump through hoops in obedience to his wishes. Soldier Boy is an expression of this attitude. The author was basically making an obscene statement about American patriotism. Corporate control and corporate power, which he never objects to in his homeland, is seen as facilitated by patriotism. Thus any patriotic feeling directed towards America by Americans is seen as either selling out to the corporate interests or simply an obscene level of naive.
