I assume it was the Heavy's minigun fire that did the tank in. It just so happened to explode when the Soldier did.

I think it's more that the soldier's Kamikaze attack just does a ton of damage rather than a one hit kill like the sniper or the spy taunts. Even if the damage is reduced it's still damage, and the tank was clearly almost dead.
