Here is a powerful flamenco composition in the "soleares" form written by one of the all-time greats in flamenco, Spanish guitarist Niño Ricardo. I learned this piece by rote from the legendary Dutch guitarist El Payo Humberto, with whom I had the privilege of studying -- and with whom I cultivated a great friendship -- during his time in Minnesota.
This video was recorded on October 19th, 2019 as part of a session by BabyBlueArts (babybluearts.com/), an organization that celebrates Minnesota-based musicians and performers. Audio mixed and mastered by Daniel Volovets at DNA Studio.

you made me remember why I fell in love with flamenco as a kid. Beautiful interpretation, I could almost feel the ghost of Nino beaming through the music.

Hi Daniel. I left a 'rave' comment a year ago, but thought I'd add another as I'm still listening to this piece (and practising trying to emulate it, sadly with little success...) and enjoying it immensely.

¡Ole! That was amazing! I heard El Payo Humberto in your playing right away, and that's a huge compliment. You and he are the only two players I've heard that have the same aire as Niño Ricardo. I'm on my third listen now, and I'm still blown away. Cheer!

Lovely! Nice to hear someone playing and respecting Nino, I really like Nino's swaying and dancing feel of the soleares.

My kind of music (anything beyond Sabicas is "too modern" for me!), and my kind of playing. Although the video does make it look a little like you are performing at a funeral ! And... you know Payo Humberto - a true eccentric but he could (past tense since he can't play now due to injury) get more feeling out of the guitar than I - or most current players - ever do.

Many flamenco pieces are sentimental and soulful.Not as like blues or jazz pieces.i write this answer because u say like this:Although the video does make it look a little like you are performing at a funeral

Hello, my name is Daniel, Niño Ricardo is the name of the composer. And I am not sure what you mean by your question, I already have a video recording of my arrangement of the Taxi Driver theme.

The nearest is in Juan Martins Solos book, volume 2: there is a "Solea de Ricardo" in the Level 8 section. But you'll have to sprinkle a bit of "Payo Humberto" magic on it:- plenty of dynamics, carefully selected fermata, in parts an almost swing feel (triplets versus quavers), etc...

Suena bien pero no entenido porque los flamencos no acaban de entender que tienen que acercar los dedos al traste acaba agobiando oír tanto chasqueo en la guitarra

Thanks for your comment. The click doesn’t have have anything to do with where my hands are in relation to the frets, you are probably referring to the buzzing inherent to playing a lower-action guitar more forcefully. It’s part of the style.

el sonido de las cuerdas rozando y golpeando el diapasón es lo que hace que el flamenco sea único...
@claymore806
