Great. How can I learn Solid through Inrupt ? - Please show some direction !
@jum5238

A question I have is how do we keep a big company from buying up the database with all of the Inrupt info in it? And these other platforms can simply create intrusive requirements (to access the Inrupt database with your info) and then make it a truly SSO for everything. As long as end-users can use something that "just works", they'll give up control to get that simple operation. And also, if someone cuts off your "Inrupt identity", then you're really hosed.

You can host your own identity. You can also choose a provider to host it you trust. The technology does not depend on inrupt or solid. If you download the code you can maintain it in its current state or update as you see fit. There are many ways of deploying it.

About the possibility of getting hacked.. someone just can acess the SOLID Network using another POD right? There's no trace of what the PODs are doing, like trying hack into another one?

Ok, so you make your POD, you grant full access to a great service like Amazon, they just take your data, keep it and sell it. Am I missing something? This stops nothing, plus large corporations like Google already have all the data they need.
@Zale370
@Zale370 3 года назад
If I understood it right, I think you would have options to choose what to share, also Amazon would not need full access only the bare minimum, like name, sex, etc.
@ManSpecial83
@ManSpecial83 3 года назад
@@Zale370 so for example 146 million people allow Amazon access, Amazon can still scrub that data and take it off the platform and use it/sell it. I can't see how this stops anyone having your data, granted it maybe less data, but they'll still get it, unless I'm missing something?

You're spot on. It's the same old problem (unsolved) to stopping someone from reusing an image you post on the web or piracy of videos - ultimately you can screenshot, refilm the movie in 4K or, in your case, simply get someone to copy your details onto another server where you have no control over it. For anyone who thinks Solid have solved this problem, read the solidproject.org/faqs: Can Solid prevent 3rd parties from replicating data they have legitimate access to ? No. In Solid, the user grants permission to third-party apps to access data in his/her Pod. When said application has read access over your data, you cannot prevent it from duplicating it (which you cannot do with current applications either). What changes is that you control exactly what information the app has access to, and you can revoke this access at any time.

Almost all the comments here are less than 2 days old. 14 comments, 4 comments older than 2 months. 10 comments within 2 days. it was shared somewhere. And I don't know if where I saw it shared is same source. This is curious. There is a wide sharing of Inrupt/Solid suddenly? Can we get some collaboration or dialog about this?

My immediate concern after watching this video is the involvement of the current data silo owners. Is it not letting the fox in the henhouse? Why would they work to decentralize and destroy their source of power?
@Growyourheirlooms

Because Tim Berners-Lee is not interested in power. He is a pro privacy advocate
@AlexanderDSX

How do you decentralise data by actually centralising it more? If It’s truly local to you then you need to have back ups and ultimately cloud backups anyway. Additionally if it’s local then apps can’t access data on demand without you being connected, how do you do big data processing now? How do you manage conflicting data models and aliases of data properties? What if I as a company do some processing for the end user that creates new data such as “credit score”, now any other company is free to use my proprietary score based on my hard work I put in. Or I have to keep data separately therefore eroding away the idea that you own your data.
@stanislavshelemekh2162
@stanislavshelemekh2162 2 года назад
They can use/change the credit score only when users allow them to.
@joebox9999
@joebox9999 3 года назад
How is this better in terms of privacy? It still and even more centralises all your info under one digital ID, your data sits with big Telecom companies. I would argue it is even worse than what we have now.
