This solid state drive came in for data recovery after an unsuccessful repair attempt all the way from Germany. The mating point of the SATA connector and the board looked really damaged. We had wired in SATA connector to what was left of traces, but there was a short on VCC to ground plane, and the controller was damaged as a result. Without a working controller, we could have tried to do a chip-off recovery, but there was a faster and more certain way to get the 1000% of the data back.

Seems like a older version of the current Sandisk SSD Plus drives. Newer ones use SM2258XT controller, i've heard that the data gets corrupted very quickly on these. I have a 512GB Orico SSD with SanDisk SSD plus components inside ( SM2258XT + SanDisk nand ). Very good ssd, but wouldn't use that as daily drive.

Good work as always. Looked like someone went at that port with a car panel type iron and no flux 😒 - Good to see people succeed. Just home after a long day, spent 3 hours trying to rejoin a fully torn flex cable for a fingerprint sensor on a Pixel, 13 traces torn so the jumpers had to curve at rounded 90 degrees. Did not succeed. I finally got around to ordering one of those sweet board holders after seeing you using it (the red one). Question: What's the new paste? Is it the MG 4860p in description? It looks pretty good - you think it'll do ok for 0.15-0.2mm pitch stencils?

@@hddrecoveryservices Then maybe you should consider using them to build USB drives if you have a lot of them. A normal USB PCBA should cost about one to two dollars while one with good controllers like SM3280 is no more than 5. Then you can build USB drives that both have better quality(higher binned chips) and way larger and faster than something you normally see on the market(e.g. SM3280 can go over 400MB/s). And the soldering time per drive should be less than 3 minutes. After this you only need to plug it in and let it automatically sort and MP on the background. No need to leave some good chips to waste.

@@hddrecoveryservices I'm back with one question. So I have an SSD Kingston A400 that suddenly became uninitialized. I was using this SSD with a case enclosure on my old PC. Now I have tried everything: initializing from disk management, trying to format it, recover data, and so on, nothing works. I can only see it in Disk Management as not initialized and unallocated. But CrystalDiskInfo shows all attributes as GOOD when checking the SSD. So I think the memory on it and data is ok, but something is wrong with my logic board too. Do you think I'm right? Because I doubt CrystalDiskInfo or other program will show good S.M.A.R.T. attributes, if the SSD would've been dead.

holy crap I figured SATA drives had a full size PCB to just load it up with NAND chips. That looks like it's half the size. I still can't get over how small NVME drives are. I just installed my first NVME drive ever recently into my new computer. I bought it back in november though. It's a samsung 980 pro and the stock was limited so I bought mine as quickly as possible so I'd have it for when I'm able to get my Ryzen 5900x.............which I temporarily gave up on and put in a 3600 instead. 3267 is a good controller to simulate. Did a few last week. All with great results. READOUT took some time, but tools and tech with RR today is much better then 2 years ago.

Why do people even watch your videos, not much point to learn these stuff for most people
@petergplus6667

I watch it cause it is satisfying to see stuff being repaired and to gain the knowledge what can be repaired and what not. Certainly not gonna try that myself.

You are right , but at least he gives us an idea of the recovery process and a possible solution for trivial cases, of course a professional cannot be replace by watching some video on youtube.

I love watching these. It's soothing. I love electronics and repairs. I watch a ton of retro repairs. I even fixed a 35 year old Commodore 64 myself with the help of videos like this one. The only thing wrong with it was 1 memory chip, but after I verified it fixed the machine, I replaced all 8 of them since the original brand that was installed is a known bad brand in the retro community.

a lot of ppl watch it because they are trying to find a way to get their data back as well. And if their problem can relate to the video they see, it is clear that they found someone who actually can help. Not everything on YT is repeatable and easy to replicate at home. The other day I watch the guy do paintless dent repair, but it does not mean I will go out and buy his tools to fix a dent on my card. I sure as hell would hire him to work on mine :)
