Solid State Logic SSL UC1 Controller Review 

Totally agree about the value of the tactile control. One of the things I hate most about plugins these days, and especially those with graphical EQ spectrums, is you start worrying about whether you are using too much or too little EQ or compression, based upon the EQ curve you see on screen. With the UC1 all you worry about is just dialing in the best sound-to hell with whether you're dial is at 10 or zero. Suddenly your mix becomes all about the finished sound: "If it sounds good then it is good," type thing. Great video on this unit. Thanks.

I just got the UC1 and have a 24 channel controller (been using for 10+ years). I missed mixing on a console. It doesn't follow track for track in my Daw but the 360 app, or just turning off the screen should work. Just need to adjust my workflow. I really appreciate your video.

Great review! I love the UC1 so far. It definitely speeds up my workflow and like you said, you just feel it. You can close your eyes and just listen while you twist the knobs.

Agreed, the actual SSL eq’s sound best. Controller is a give away tbh when you consider bundled software. Their plug ins do give my UK ears that richer edge. X-Touch won the day over UF8. Just need/love the dedicated transport section

Tactile control has been a big part and it is why there are tones of controllers... this is really good for people wanting to most commit with SSL... I really want to get this and the UF8 and then have some other controllers for other plugins... so I have my compression and EQ at hand all the time while the other controllers manage the special things and the UF8 does some of that also... the other thing I use is a stream deck and a few Midi Fighter Twisters... I kind of want to get the Softube Console 1 Mk2 and the fader 1 also... and having things separately can really help with workflow... as the tactile nature is also to swap around without looking at the screen... I find this sort of thing help with production also... separate controllers... helps with connection with the music and control helping you put life into your productions... the tactile feel takes away to over inner critique also that will have you over-edit things... you go by the feeling becoming one with each plugin you use... plus then being able to make rapid changes makes a lot of difference as you spend less time focused on one bit... this can really alter your opinion with sound... you need to always know how it's sounding immediately, not how it's sounds after it's looped for 5 minutes

Hello, thumbs up for your review and your videos in general. Love them. I would like to seek some advices. I have purchased this UC1 and love it so far, but I was thinking to extend the flavours keeping this in the center of my gears. What gears would you recommend? I was thinking SSL fusion, API compressor or EQ, bettermaker hardwares… I’m a noob just enjoying discovering more about the art of sound - willing invest a little of cash (not too much) Thanks a lot in advance

this was exactly the reason i was considering to get this. however i have too much junk atm will probably cop that controller in the next few months or so

If your friends don't power down their studio why would it matter of the UC1 stays on? We leave all our studios running 24/7

Since you have the Avid Daw Controller, did you kept the UC1?

I bought the Softube Console 1 Fader and I had issues with the software when I used too many channels (sends etc.). It just didn't work in my Cubase sessions. How many channels can you use for SSL UC1 and UF8? How is the SSL control software CPU performance?

The Softube one is quite amazing too and the price point is not comparable But the ssl is more of a value than softube because the ssl can control other plugin

Ordered mine but i'm in Mexico so it'll be awhile... :( Meanwhile i'm using the plugins with a mouse and drooling every time i see someone using the UC1. Thanks for the video!
