The Imperial MkII is a 4 slider homage to the rare JEN Jumbo Fuzz from the 70s, one of the first gated fuzz pedals on the market. Sporting a highly refined Ram’s Head Big Muff style circuitry and a super-fast and smooth in-built noise gate, the Imperial will give you a bold and ripping fuzz tone with copious amounts of sustain when playing and zero noise and hum when not playing. And with the Contour and Tone sliders you can hone in on the perfect mid and treble frequencies, letting you go from a classic scooped sound to a more modern mid-focused tone in seconds flat.

Thank you kindly! ❤ My secret is that I just noodle around until it sounds good. I'm a really terrible guitarist, and I know close to no theory at all, so I can't really explain what I do. I seriously just noodle until a melody, rhythmic pattern or fun chord progression pops out, and then I take that and just flesh it out until it sounds somewhat like a song ☺

This pedal just seems like the most perfect fuzz for me. That lovely loosely ram muff based goodness with a dedicated mids control and a gate? Sign me the fuck up. One question I do have, with my looper switcher it's always buffer on. I know some fuzzes are picky (although I've found most fuzzes to take them just fine), wasn't sure how this guy reacted. As always, you're the man, Stefan!

Brilliant as always. Love that Doom riff btw. It was heavy AF. Side note: have you done any mods to your JMJM or it all stock? Also, what tuning you playing in during the low gain demo? EAEABE? That riff was lovely as well.

Thank you very much, buddy! Haven't done any mods to my JMJM that affects the sound of it. I've swapped the nut for a better material, but that was just to improve string stability. Everything else is stock. And yeah, I'm in EAEABE throughout the entire demo, except for the Doom example, where I play my Jazzmaster Baritone which is in Drop A.

Great vid as always. Would you recommend this as a first fuzz pedal for a player keen on post-rock/shoegaze genres etc? Was considering the KMA Fuzzly Bear too. Which would you go for? Ta!

I love both of those fuzz pedals. But if you’re specifically aiming at a postrock/shoegaze context, then I would recommend the Imperial MkII for sure. It would be the perfect first fuzz pedal for you 😊👍

It sounds good, just not sure about the wisdom of making the form factor bigger. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think most people want smaller pedals not larger. If you can manipulate the sliders with your foot that could be a plus, but also seems like it might be a recipe for broken sliders.

It's actually not a big pedal. It's pretty darn compact. Think you need to see it in real life to get a grasp of its size. I personally don't like mini pedals, so smaller isn't always better. I think this one would fit into a lot of setups.

The best doesn't exist. The best FOR YOU definitely exists, but it's hard to say what that is, since I'm not you ☺ I personally really like the EQD Grand Orbiter and KMA Astrospurt. They are both in the classic warm analog realm and work really well after dirt (which is where I prefer phasers) since they aren't super resonant. If you let me know what you're looking for in a phaser, then it will be easier for me to help you out.

@@thepedalzone Yes of course, you are right. I think the most accurate way to describe what I am looking for is the band Incubus. Mike Einziger uses two Boss phaser pedals to achieve his sound. If I am not mistaken he, like you, puts it after dirt on his board. He puts one phaser at a really slow phase, and the other at a faster phase. Here is the problem. I am not wanting to buy two pedals. I think OBN Visitor might be a good route to go with its secondary wave. So having said that, what do you think?
