Solidus is a very underrated villain, he's mostly overshadowed by Stephen Armstrong, who is essentially a retread of him, but a good one. Solidus' means might be extreme and his motives are certainly not entirely altruistic, but give him credit that even though the protagonists didn't agree with his means, they basically admitted in the end that he was right about the Patriots needing to die. That is the ultimate mark of a well intended extremist, when the heroes go on to carry out the same goal as them, just with different means. And frankly the Patriots are worse than Solidus imagined, or the series even acknowledged. They stated that they spent billions of dollars and endangered hundreds of lives over some experiment to test the manipulation of people, and considered it a success despite all the people who lost their lives. Coupled with that and their cruelty when they speak with Raiden, I say they are the single most evil characters in Metal Gear, worse than Volgin or Sundowner, despite their claims to have humanity's best interests. They are just controlling sociopaths who actually seem relish in human misery.
Solidus: Jack. i never though i've see you again... Raiden: You know me? Solidus: You don't remember... Your name. your skill. everything you know you learned from me. 5:55
6:12 Solidus Snake: (cut flashback solidus narrates.) The eighties. ... the civil war. You were one of the best among the child soliders that fought in that conflict. When you were barely ten years old, you became the platoon of the "small boy unit." at the time, your outstanding kill record earned you several nicknames including "White Devil and "Jack the Ripper." Jack... i was your godfather, I named you. When the war ended, you disappeared from the relief center. I wondered what happened to you I should've have known they would recruit you.
I feel like such an idiot for only just now getting into this series...like holy shit most movies nowadays don't even have the quality writing or balls to explore such touchy themes that this series contains
9:32 Jack, those days during the civil war were as real as they come... Every day was absolute, split between life and death. You ran from it, and now, you've been led back to war by something less than real.
It's on Vimeo now. The production company that owned Storm Hawks filed a complaint, so I moved it on Vimeo where the restrictions are much more loose. vimeo.com/275099952
