Thank you for your tutorial, it's helpful for me. And I have a question, I would be my honored if you could answer. I have created a sheet bending metal part, which will be automatically recognized as shell element in simulation, but its Mirror derived part will only be recognized as solid element when it is connected with the original part. So how could I keep connection with original part and will be automatically recognized as shell element?

When creating the Insert -> Mirror Part be sure to check the checkbox "Sheet Metal Information". Then the mirrored part should have the Sheet Metal folder in the feature tree, and should automatically convert to shell. If you don't have this option available in your version of SOLIDWORKS, a good fallback would be to use the "Define Shell by Selected Faces" method shown at 3:26 for any parts that fail to convert automatically to shell

@@hawkridgesystems Thank you very much. I've tried it before, and I tried it again yesterday, please see the video. The software interface is in Chinese, but there should be no misunderstanding. My project have lot of mirror shell, so define one by one is to slowly and tired... This is my first video, ha ha ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IrS4slZI9_I.html

@@boensad7911 So instead of mirroring the from the assembly, try this: -Open the individual sheet metal part file -Select the mirror plane / face -Choose Insert -> Mirror Part from the pull down menus. -Make sure the checkbox for "Sheet Metal Properties" is enabled This will create a mirrored part that still has the sheet metal information, and should convert the shell. help.solidworks.com/2021/english/SolidWorks/sldworks/t_create_mirrored_SM_part.htm?verRedirect=1 Hope this helps!

@@hawkridgesystems Thank you sir, but it still failed. ^^!!! even I have tried to copy the whole project to another fold, release reference relationship between orginal part, failed... I don't know it's the problem of my operation or not, if you are successfully, hope to share a vedio, thank you very much.

what is the purpose of using shell mesh?

To decrease the computation cost. It is based on the uniformity of the geometry, so it must applied carefully.
