You mention that the location of your files has a big impact but not really what you can do about it. What can you do if you use a server and pdm? I can't do a pack and go all the time I don't think? Are there settings you can change so the file is stored locally while you are working on it or anything else that can be done to help? Great presentation by the way. Thanks.

If you have PDM and you are checking the files in and out, then that’s great! That’s exactly what you should be doing! The files are stored elsewhere, but when you check them out to work on them, the files are actually brought local to your machine for that time period. And then when you check them back in, the files are go back where they are supposed to go. What I mentioned was more for those who are storing their files on a network drive…and that is not recommended.

@@goengineer With PDM, checking out an assembly file may bring it local to your machine but the subassemblies and part files remain--elsewhere. I have an entire 200,000 square foot facility modeled. It contains exactly 20 subassemblies and 20 mates (coincident origins with axial alignment) and it is still limited in it's open/rebuild time by the fact that the subs and part files are elsewhere. That said, following your advice has reduced file-open time from 45 minutes--down to 6 minutes (at least on my machine). Thank You!
