I heard about Solinco Hyper G all over the place, so I want to give it a try. I know the string is stiff and it is the stiffest string I've ever tried.
I've been playing with monofilament for last 10 years but now I switch to full bed of multifilament. The Hyper G is monofilament so I expect much less power from my normal set up. But the spin is still lacking!
I play with Yonex V Core Duel G 330gr 29 inches long (Hsieh Su-wei alike) and V Core Pro 310gr 29 inches long - Pro's Pro Superior Gut 1,32 mm.

Nice video! Have you tried the Hyper G in hybrid setup? I wield a Wilson Pro Staff 97 V13 and usually use a syntetic gut in the mains and poly in the crosses. I tried full Hyper G yesterday at 23,5 kg. but it wasnt what I was expecting. I was overshooting alot and lost alot of my spin. Thinking of putting more kgs in for the next test. But maybe there are some hybrid setup tips aswell?

Your experience is interesting considering you came from softer to stiffer setups generally. I haven't tried this string in hybrid though. I reckon your experience comes from your stroke mechanics, not the string. Hyper G at 23,5kg is already quite stiff and that PS isn't soft either. I think you can still try that stringbed but change your technique a bit. I see that the Hyper G really likes us to have a big cut to the ball, rather than flatten the ball out. And the string grabs the ball nicely.

@@TenniswithAlex Yes, it was against my expectations as well. I did not adjust my hitting. I think I hit the balls pretty similar to your strokes. I'll experiment with it. Usually I do mains: 25,5kg & cross 24kg with the hybrid setup.

One of the Best string reviews on RU-vid. Well done. This is one the most underpowered strings I have ever used. Use it only at low tensions, otherwise your elbow will never forgive you :)

Rly? I always thought Hyper G gave you decent mix of power and control. It definitely gives you pop on your strokes which is why it's so popular. It really gives you the pocketing feel and launches the ball.

String is personal I guess 😊 Yonex poly tour pro at similar gauge feels much better for me, and better price. And even though the Yonex looks like a smooth string, it grips the balls really well. The Yonex is a better package in all categories than the Hyper G for me.

The string is great at generating spin IF you hit with a more circular/virtual stroke and accelerate the racket faster. It looks like you hit with a very linear stroke, and your racket isn't moving very fast.

It's probably so, and perhaps because I strung at very low tension 😄.

Hyper g is one of my top poly. Considering all the hype from this string, spin isnt the stand out feature for me. Its more on control ,bite and consitency. Hyper g has that pocketing that all good monofilaments have.

I can see the Hyper G fits nicely in 100 sq.in. or more, open string pattern racquets (to get the control) or physically strong players. For me it's too low powered. Spin is meh... The string bed is consistent that we feel confident to swing big though.

This string is insanely popular. I think it's a combination of the marketing to college players and the bright color that has given it a lot of hype! What poly strings do you recommend?
@TenniswithAlex
@TenniswithAlex 3 года назад
Yes I think they have good marketing to put enough players using it with easily recognized color. Manufacturers don't show much info about strings, so it's hard to choose. If they have good marketing then they can make the string popular 🤔. Also this string fits nicely with stiff, "powerful" racquets (pure drive, aero...) to lower down the power level. I can see why people like it. But I also rarely see anyone using it in Finland. Strings are personal. I only use Pro's Pro strings. I tested some big brand strings but for the price/performance, I always come back to Pro's Pro lol. I'm currently using the Cyber Power 1,20mm, Black Out 1,24mm, Strategem 8 1,30mm. The Black Out is shaped and not too stiff, good ball bite so I normally put it in mains. Cyber Power is very soft, Strategem is stiff, they are both smooth. So depending on the racquet, I'll put them to cross respectively. They are so cheap that you should try lol. 😀

Tennis with Kimi I agree that they are personal. I’m interested in the way you test the stress / strain curves and would love to see tests on more strings! Compared to other costs of tennis, strings are relatively cheap. It’s like Coke vs generic soda. Even if a premium string set costs $20 a set, that is still little money compared to $60 an hour for indoor court time, $90 for a private lesson (average cost in the US).

The price sounds crazy 😅 Here in Finland, 32€/h for indoor court sounds already too much. 20€/h in daytime sounds too cheap for US lol. I'd like to test more strings but it also costs a lot to try new strings, and with the elongation test, I almost don't need to playtest the strings to know how they perform, except for ball bite. So for elongation test, I might ask for 40cm sample from the club stringers perhaps 🤣.

Tennis with Kimi Can you try to play test Pros Pro Eruption in neon green? It looks like a Hyper G copy!
@TenniswithAlex
@TenniswithAlex 3 года назад
I did try and the Eruption is much softer than Hyper G, at the same gauge. So it doesn't feel like Hyper G because of the softness. I did test its elongation and the Eruption stretches twice as much as the Hyper G. Getting thicker Eruption would be close to thinner Hyper G perhaps 😀. Pro's Pro mono/poly strings tend to be softer than other brands' strings.

Hi ! I’m surprised that you found this string has no bite ! I think you could not get much spin because u don’t have the topspin stroke at all , you are flat hitter that likes to play with a lot of touch ! Trust me semble if you have the stroke for this string u get a huge rotation in the balls !
@TenniswithAlex
@TenniswithAlex 4 года назад
You're right, I prefer flatter shots 😄. I've changed to full Western grip since last year to get more spin and consistency before I tested Hyper G, so I have a feel of ball biting. Perhaps it's my fault that I strung very low, that the string hasn't snapped back yet when the ball released off the racquet. It felt very difficult to lift the balls, let alone spinning the balls. I casually try my other strings (both mono and multifilament) and I didn't have difficulty to lift the balls like that. I can sense that as the string is very stiff and low elastic strain recovery, it can spin the balls decently. This string fits Pure Aero, Wilson Clash type of racquets nicely I believe, although PA is already so stiff 😀.

@OlivierL 3 года назад
Olivier Bado is right, your swing path is not good for generate spin and the speed of your swing is too slow. It's more linear than low to high. The full western grip will be ineffective if the head of your racquet doesn't go lower than the ball. It will generate flat balls.
