I moved with my folks in 67 to silver city….soon after, my dad bought us some horses. Been on that trail many times, but I was so young at the time that I can’t remember the names of all the spots but I remember all the fun! You’re not to far from the cliff dwellings……enjoy the good times…I’m envious!

I'm hooked on your videos! My grandpa bought me a horse when I was 9 years old, a good ole stock cow-horse gelding named Abner. He was a great companion for me for several years, allowing me to ride with my grandpa to check on cows in the meadow and to ride out of town to deer hunt. Great and special memories for me, and your rides remind me of those special times. Thanks for sharing...onward and upward!

Hello! I just discovered your channel and am glad I did. I live in Mimbres, NM, and I've hiked the Middle Fork of the Gila many times in the last 30 years or so and I've learned there is NO Way to do it without getting your feet soaked if you are on foot. Maybe it's time to" get a horse" or mule! You remind me a lot of my late friend M.H. "Dutch " Salmon, author of many books on hunting with hounds, fishing and other outdoor pursuits. Did you know him? There is legislation pending to make the Gila a "Wild and Scenic River" in his name. Thanks for your interesting and entertaining videos!

My first “horse” was a mule when I was a kid. Just found your channel. Have a lot in common with you. Same age, etc. Congratulations on the retirement! Grew up chasing foxes, had near fifty hounds. My old man road to the hounds casting them in and listening to the music and knowing who was on. Beautiful sound all on horseback, following, careful to not let the fox outfox you and the pack. There is absolutely nothing as satisfying as a man his horse and his hounds, out there, bedding down and waking up to catching the best sent conditions as early as you can get out on a line. Take care of yourself and never mistrust your horse sense in life or out there.

Will be leaving in a few days and off grid the whole time, except twice a month for a town supply run. Do have my RV but will only use propane for hot water and fridge. Wood burning for everything else. Too bad about the short trip. But it gives you a reason to go back again! Really enjoy your videos and I'll be missing them while off grid. Love riding along with you on your trips. It's like we are right there w you. It means so much to many of us that can't get out there anymore, due to health issues etc. Hells Hole sounds like a place you Wouldn't want to visit.. lol. Devils Ledge, Hells Hole etc all names like that are places where Many many folks have gone missing. David Paulides, his channel 411 & his newest movie I think it's called 411 The UFO CONNECTION.. is an amazing movie.. I personally know one of the families that still haven't found their Dad who was out hunting, w several best friends. Hunted same grounds every year.. Then, all of a sudden , GONE, in a Heartbeat. Dam scary. Many have mentioned hearing like metal scraping, perhaps it's a doorway/Portal they say.. You got the miles, the dogs, most importantly the Camera going constantly, and the MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT ANYONE CAN OWN & CARRY IS A PBL PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACON.. It has saved SOOO many lives. You are a smart man to have one. Plus you don't seem to be scared of nothing!! Lol, calling that Big Bear in, not scaring it away.. I have big respect for you my friend. I was thinking about your comments on where a mules head is at. Her name was Wednesday, that when my old man bought her at an auction. Your so right if it thinks/ knows your not the one in control they will get “mule headed” First time I road her she knew I was green. She started walking to the side of a barn and just tried to run along and scrape me off. Me old man taught me enough to know to stay on no matter what. I slung my leg over like a side saddle. I was only about eight or nine. She didn’t scrap me off, she kinda figured I was a little better than my size so she settled a bit.She was always hard to rein in when we were on the way home. She always new which way it was no matter where we ended up in the woods. Good times.

You apologized for telling too many stories, I think that that's one of the big reasons that I like and that many others like watching your videos. Reminds me of deer camp when the old timers would tell stories. Some of them were told every year, but they never got old. My dad used tell about the first deer that he ever shot and it was in Southern New Mexico, not sure if the same area, it was back in the 30's. A little forked horn, shot in the morning took him all day to get it back to camp and there sat my grandpa eating dinner with a large 4 pointer (counting one side) that he had shot less than a 100 yards from camp. There's a more to the story don't want to bore anyone.

I just spent a week , popping mesquite’s, gathering and branding calves. The neighbors and my own. And I’m dinked. This older age is hard for me to accept. I think pack trips may be a little easier on the old bod! Yea you need to figure out your battery deal. We used to just say “ we ll be back in 3 days” and the wimmin folk wouldn’t worry till day 4. But it’s peace of mind that makes it worth it.

New to your channel, glad I found it. Great stuff! Got a question though. Why on your pack mule do you leave it’s tail tucked in under the rear pack strap? It can’t swat at flies and craps on itself, don’t it?

Hey Brett, how many extra batteries do you cary for the Garmin Alpha controller? I have 1 extra I add to my pack for piece of mind. Then I try to carry a power bank which is about the size of a cellphone plus a extra charging cable to hook to my Garmin. I haven’t done any over night pack trips yet, but I hope to this year. Typically if I’m going to stay the night, I’ll use the truck as a base camp and just ride out from there. The hard part is remembering to charge all the batteries before I go hunting! 😂😂😂 In my little hunting truck, I’m going to add several USB charging ports in the back seat so I can plug all my collars in at once. Then I’m toying with the idea of adding a marine battery in the bed of the truck that’ll serve as the main power source for the USB charging ports. I would hook a charging wire for that battery, into the charging system of the truck. But that’s another project that I haven’t made time to do.
