Join me on an exciting adventure as we explore the solo backpacking essentials for an unforgettable trip to Yosemite National Park! In this gear guide, I’ll share my top packing tips to ensure you have everything you need for a successful outdoor experience. From my trusty Nemo Aya 15 degree down sleeping bag and the lightweight Nemo Hornet 1 tent to the spacious Osprey Eja 48-liter backpack, I’ll walk you through my essential gear choices.
Learn how to make the most of your solo travel with practical tips, including how to effectively use an MSR Pocket Rocket stove for cooking delicious meals, and the importance of carrying a Katadyn 1-liter water filter to stay hydrated. I’ll also discuss the necessity of a bear canister to keep your food secure from wildlife while enjoying the beauty of Yosemite.
For comfort at night, I rely on the Thermarest Neoair sleeping pad, which pairs perfectly with the Altra Lone Peak 6 footwear for those long hikes. I’ll also touch on my photography gear, including the Sony A7iii, to help you capture the breathtaking landscapes that Yosemite has to offer.

Manfroto makes quality products. Good choice for a tripod! I have been using the same Manfroto tripod since the early 1990s

I always pack a detailed topographic map (National Geographic for Yosemite), that way I know beforehand how hard a section of trail will be, when I need to fill up on water, and where to set up tent. I also have the TOPO software for many parks, but prefer to bring the plastic maps.

I use all trails. I really enjoy having a map downloaded on my phone and having it update in real time!

You are very brave. Thanks for showing your gear. Do you carry a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) ? David Paulides author of a number of Missing 411 books and documentaries states Always carry an 'activated Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) and also states never hike alone, but that's a given.

Thanks for watching. I don't currently have a PLB but I am looking to get one, especially for more remote trips. My route in Yosemite was mostly on busy trails an sometimes right next to the road. I felt safe during this hike, but I'll definitely want one in for my trips gong forward. Recommendations? I enjoy hiking alone too much to give it up. I am a hike who plays it safe over taking a stoic approach. I feel comfortable with my ability and knowledge to hike by myself, but I do enjoy hiking with company occasionally!
