It's time for a solo ride! Back in November of 2020 I got the chance to cycle the Casentinesi forest and Abruzzo region of Italy, out of which these episodes were created. Episode 1 and 2 show my Trans-Casentinesi route, which you can find on my Komoot profile: www.komoot.nl/user/1605626459197

Video production is top notch. Excellent cam and drone work. Great editing and post too. Love subtle music fades, longer shots from tripod. There is no unnecessary talking... Love it. Get David Attenborough and it's pure BBC. Respect.

Bellissimo. Pensa sono di Firenze e certi posti non li ho mai girati in bicicletta... Mi sei di ispirazione e stimolo a scoprire quello che ho intorno. A presto. P.s. un saluto anche alla tua compagna che ho scoperto guardando un vostro giro attraverso la Slovenia.

Your videos are just awesome! I would watch them even if I wasn't a cyclist!🙂 Anyway, yes, in Italy, especially in the villages, on Sundays the shops are closed. I think I'll do the Wolf's Liar next year.

Living vicariously through yet another one of your stunning videos. I'm a huge fan of the overall pace, allowing the shots to breathe and for the viewer to take it all in. A calming experience. The shots around 3:11 and 4:11 are jaw dropping. And you nailed the camera position to be at a person's height, on the ground, in the forest, to feel I'm there too. In comparison, although the drone shots give an interesting perspective of the stunning surroundings, they're so good they look like an ad. Which slightly detaches me from pretending to be there with you. Personally, I'm not a fan of drone footage in general for that reason ... yet, you seem to have found a balance in amongst the other riding and "interview" shots that works so well. Aaanyway ... awesome work again, so worthwhile for a rewatch. Multiple rewatches.

Wow, Kasper! Means a lot that you took the time to write that up. Very happy with this honest feedback - I must say I feel the same way. I’m adding the drone shots as they give an overview I cannot get from the ground, something I love about drone footage. Generally I try to minimize the use because of birds and all that noise, but getting a few shots into each episode is something I’ll probably keep doing. Excited to present the next two videos of the Wolf’s Lair route!

Loved this vid. I’m a new subber. I’m going to ride to Italy. Just decided that. How do I get my bike there and where exactly is Italy? Hopefully, my knowledge of the Geography of Europe will improve as I make my plans. Thank you for a really nice vid.

Fantastic these series in Tuscany and Abruzzo. Next year, I'd like to do Rome-Udine on my gravel bike. With which train did you get to Italy from the Netherlands..?
@tristanbogaard
@tristanbogaard 2 года назад
Nice idea! For this particular trip, since there were rapidly changing border problems due to Covid, I flew. But the EuroCity and ICE train connections, provided you pack your bike, are a great connection between Italy and Netherlands! Milano - Basel (direct EC) + Basel - Amsterdam (direct ICE) is a possibility on certain days!

Great video quality from the Olympus 4k camera and your drone. Which Olympus camera is it? Some great shots and footage. Beautiful autumn colours. Looks like a great trail to ride but not without suitable preparations and food. Not for the feint hearted! I guess the shorter daylight hours were limiting how long and how far you could ride in a day and frequency of food shops. Did you feel that your bike was suitable or would a MTB have been better for this route or one with at least 3"+ tyres? Just curious. Shall look forward to your next episode.
@tristanbogaard
@tristanbogaard 3 года назад
Thanks for your words, Alex! Yes, the 4K is such a blessing out of a mirrorless body. It’s the OM-D E-M5 mark III with a 12-40mm lens on it. Only real challenge from time to time is the stabilization settings, but it depends on personal preference mostly. And yes! The daylight hours were little, I had to constantly get off the bike to film, as well as eat, ride, push, plan... you get it. I’d say my bike was fine for the job (47mm tires) but something like a Specialized Diverge EVO would’ve been nice. However, most mountainbikes can easily ride the trails I rode, it will mostly depend on weather circumstances as when it gets wet... mud comes out!!

Excellent job on your photography/video and editing. Always enjoy watching your channel. I have an equipment question: your red Patagonia Jacket - what "model" or style is it? Is it a layered jacket e.g...vest-inner liner-outer shell set up? Looks like it is long enough in the back and the sleeves for cycling. Your thoughts? Many thanks and keep up the good work.
@tristanbogaard
@tristanbogaard 3 года назад
Thanks for the kind words Michael. The model of my jacket is Cloud Ridge-not sure they still sell it but the Rainshadow model should be pretty similar. Absolutely love the jacket. I carry layers, so a t-shirt, then synthetic puffy, and on top my red waterproof jacket. Works best for a sunny but cold / wet climate, which was the case in Italy. Also great for the difference between midday and evening. If you’re in the market for a jacket combination I can dearly recommend Patagonia because of their marketing honesty and product quality!
