Recently come across your channel and I'm completely hooked! You do such a good job of showing the beauty of nature, I feel the need to get camping. Can't wait to see more.
Congrats on a 100k bud!!!!!!!!So well deserved for your tremendous efforts to get you and us to places unseen!!! So waiting for everything to melt up here so i can get out of my friggin house lol!!! Winters are cold and long up here!
I am so very glad to have found this channel! The content is very relaxing, and the camera shots are beautiful. Looking forward to more after I finish binge-watching the rest!
Great video and thanks for sharing your special day with all of us and congratulations on your marriage. Hope you have many wonderful years together and many more great adventures. Cheersssss
Lovely video as usual. Felt extra cozy. Looking forward to re-watching in late July - I find winter camping, hot or cold tenting, to be air conditioning for the mind after a hot, humid day. Thank you!
Hey Jon! That was a nice trip. I'm just getting into Winter camping and I love it. No one is around at all! Just bought a new air horn today, for the bears, and I use mace for the men. ;) Thanks so much for calming my nerves.
As always, a great adventure, Jon, and still more and more amazingly beautiful country! One of these days, you might just run into me on one of those secluded lakes having my own adventure! As always, thanks for a great video!
Got some last summer but never thought about using them in winter...I'll have to try that :) Right on, I'm hoping for something soon too...Superior provides some early opportunities sometimes
I hope you never stop replying to our comments it makes me feel special and honored to have someone make this good of quality content and replied to all of our comments
Snowstorm camping is so much fun and it looks like you have a great trip! Excellent that you found a route to get to the pond you wanted to see, very rewarding. Thanks for sharing. :) :)
Hey John, . I heard you say something like what your doing isn't special or anything..(it was in an old video but just kinda felt relevant for some reason) ... I live on the central coast of California about ten mins from the beach, but what your doing sir is taking care of something I've always heard about, always wanted to go and see, but haven't gotten the chance yet. Thank you! By you sharing this part of the world with others as well as what your doing to take care of this jewel is "very" special and my heart aches. I pray something comes along and rekindles your energy I'll continue to pray for you and Arron, for your safety and that all your needs continue to be met. Safe journey friends!
Jon, thank you for the respite from the crap on YT! You always produce a masterful video. Of course, it’s easy when you have Mother Nature as your subject! And the snow shots… amazing! Looking forward to Spring editions
Something to try. For keeping feet dry. I mountain bike on a fat bike in weather similar to what you are dealing with in this video. I use an antiperspirant spray to keep my feet from sweating. I usually can stay dry and warm into the single digits F. It works for many people but not all. but a cheap hack for the right person.
If you want frostbite keep using the bags! Very old trick my mom used since we could not buy real winter boots. Does not keep feet warm, holds moister next to skin to freeze quicker.
It would be greatly appreciated by many many campers and hikers if you could write down and display your many dehydrate recipes on breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We would all love to try a master dehydrators food meals! Why not learn from a pro! It would be greatly greatly appreciated to check them out even if you charged a small amount. I for one would pay to try for sure as I am sure many others would as well!! Another fantastic video!! Thankyou!!
Thanks so much Brad!! The catch is I'm so far from a dehydrating pro...relatively experienced, but someone like Kevin Outdoors...he's a pro. Highly recommend his channel and book Backcountry Eats 🙂
And, like, I would turn around and be soooooooooooooooooooooooo lost. Amazing that you saw the forecast and turned to Erin and said, I gotta go babe! Storms ah comin'!! Great job! Wish it were longer!! TY!!!
Hahaha thank Scotty!! I love a good storm...what I would really love now is a good ole thunderstorm like you get down there (thunder is very rare in winter here)
I always envy you, about your great nature and the possibilities. When I'm on the road with the ATV, I always have a 4 x 6 meter nylon tarp with me, often a second. Has the advantage, the machine is under the tarp. In addition, I can heat something inside. Germany is a little different. Against wet feet, I take smaller sturdy waste bags, over the socks and up to the knees. Only there fixed. Warm and dry feet. Greetings from Frankfurt
great trip sir, good on ya for hanging out in the snow storm. I love being in the wilderness in winter, you get places you would never go in spring or summer. We're heading to our camp next weekend, hoping to spend a full day out in the woods. thank you for sharing. Hi Erin,,, Bob
Thanks Bob! Yeah absolutely, walking over a wetland that would be a brutal, buggy slog in summer is quite a treat :) Hope you have a great weekend at camp!
Hey Jon love the videos look forward to watching them, was wondering maybe if you could put in the description rough area the videos/camping were shot in. As I am from northern Ontario also thanks again. Keep the videos rollin
Hello Jonterio, My wife and I just purchased a food dehydrator, and what was the first thing I dehydrated? Pineapple, of course, OMG that is too good. Blessings to you guys. Keep up the good work.
Really interesting camp setup Jon !!! I agree with you on bears. I think it is still too early. No prints observed yet. I am in the bush every day. Today’s prints (the usual)....squirrel, snowshoe hare, grouse, lynx, wolf and moose....still working on identifying other creatures like fox and marten prints. Hmmm, a “limited edition” hammock....Comic Book Guy (The Simpson’s) would be impressed !!!! Cheers from northeastern Ontario. Thanks for Kevin Outdoors. Did not know about him.
Well yet another great video and a very different one. I'm so use to seeing you with your tent and stove. Can you tell me why the different approach, surely you weren't as comfortable as being in your tent? Regards from across the big pond Steve
Thanks a lot Steve. The hot tent is more comfortable in bitter cold but also a lot more work...to haul in, set up, and process wood for. However being able to dry out gear at the end of the day is huge. For a shorter trip like this I can make do without though
Hi Jon Love watching your videos!! What kind of drone do you have ? Beautiful camera work with it … I am from Wisconsin and have been in Ontario a couple times on fishing trips, I wish I lived closer because I love solo tripping like you do. Keep up the great stuff and take care my you tube friend lol 😆
Hey Jon, Let this old lady learn ya….lol…. First put on cotton socks then the bag then wool socks then put on your Sorrels. You know the snow boots with the wool liners. P.S. try bread bags better plastic…. 🦉🦉🦉
Thanks for beautiful vid Jon. I have a question. I know you are a really savvy outdoorsman but are you ever concerned about getting lost when you snowshoe in a snowstorm? Seems like it would be easy to get turned around.
Thanks a lot Felicia! I have offline maps on my phone (which doesn't need signal to use GPS), but I can usually follow my own tracks back (even if it's snowing heavily like this the imprint is usually visible, what washes it out more is strong wind), and I'm always looking back and taking mental pictures in case my phone stops working (it has happened). For longer canoe trips I always have paper maps as well :)
Hey big guy I been watching A LOT of your videos over the last week or so and I am loving it, and ya know ya got me thinking. I totally wanna try this stuff for one and I saw this cool tent maybe you could try out and give your review. The russian up 2 tent I think you might fall in love with, but maybe not. I want your channel to grow so try out survival gear and give reviews maybe, or tents! Anyways homeslice keep making these badass videos because im going to watch!
Thanks a lot man! I've looked at those ones but I think they're too heavy for me, plus I love certain things about cotton canvas...but they are nice and there are pros and cons to all gear :)
@@LostLakes Yeah 50lbs is a lot, I would love to see you try out and give your approval or not on gear tho, or make starters pack. Anyways much love brother and catch some more damn fish!
Hi, allow me one simple question, why didn´t you use a hot tent instead of a chilly hammock if you go out into such a frosty location??? Greetings from Wuppertal, Germany, Wolfgang.
Hey Wolfgang, the hot tent and stove are much heavier to haul in and I just felt like a change (but the hot tent offers a lot of comfort of course). This hammock has a R-value 5 pad in it which is more than enough insulation underneath for this temperature :)
Hello Jon, I have been wanting to ask you about your feet getting wet all the time! Why don't you get some waterproof socks? You must have a good reason but just curious! I have some and I am very pleased with them! Great video as always. Cheers
Thanks Patrick! I actually got some pricey ones for last season (Showers Pass was the brand) but didn't end up wearing them much. I think the thickness made my boot a little too tight. I'm thinking of getting another boot to accommodate them though. But prior to that, I guess my approach was grin and bear it 😁
Hey, thanks for the new video. I've been tripping in Northern Minnesota and Canada for almost 50 years now. I've never brought bear protection yet in black bear country. If it makes a person feel better then go for it I say. So far the bears and I have gotten along.
Thanks Bob! That's interesting and I think that's quite reasonable...if a bear really wants you dead, well bear spray might not even cut it. And the other 99.999% of human-bear encounters will likely be uneventful if the human is sensible. There are frequently people here insisting that I need a gun. I disagree for black bears, but the bear spray does provide nice peace of mind for me
@@LostLakes I do not bring bear protection either , because all the bears I've seen in the past run away from humans . As for the people asking you to bring a gun in the wild , it must be americans most of the time . Many of them go backpacking with a handgun , for protection against predators and ...humans 🙄
@@bonpecheur4565 you are probably right it is probably mostly us Americans saying that. I carry a gun for the same reasons I have a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher in my kitchen and vehicle. In my 56 years of living I’ve never needed any of them but if the need ever arrives I’ll be prepared to deal with it. I also know that no hand gun I own will stop a bear other than the noise but that’s not why I have it.
Jon, I love how you make every video just that little bit different while still being true to your style. Really enjoyed this trip and the scenery. Every time I watch it reinforces in me the idea to leave London and move North. Just have to convince my wife and kids first. Haha! Thank you!
Really appreciate that Jon! I spent the first 29 years of my life in southern ON and moving north was the best thing I ever did...hope you can pull it off!
I was always the one who was ready to go. My X was the one who always found a million excuses not to leave I love these videos. I can live vicariously through them!😊🏕🙏🇺🇸❤
We are also dehydrator experimenters 😆so we will check out Kevin's book for some tips. The Draumr looked cozy, especially with the added bottle of scotch. Looked like a really enjoyable few days out in the bush, great vid Jon thanks for sharing!
The video of the snow blowing across the lake to open. I find myself hoping it will last so much longer. Your cinematography has continued to flourish. Keep sharing and teaching. You’d make a great teacher.
I know you miss canoeing a lot, but in a way I hope this winter never ends - your films are so beautiful, so serene, so peaceful (yet so funny thanks to you)
I just found your channel last night with the -26 solo camping 7 days and I don't think I've ever subscribed to a channel so quickly. I've now watched over 6 of your videos and can't stop. You have definitely inspired me to get outdoors and do more camping.
What a lovely docu-diary (that's what I call your vid's now). Taking in and absorbing the stunning beauty of the environment really is breathtaking. The spectrum of different shot perspectives you film (whether at altitude by drone or on the ground) brings so much to the viewer. Thank you for sharing another snow camping experience, it was a pleasure to watch. Cheers.
Well done! Another top quality video. Kind of take it for granted how great they are. I've never been very good at ice fishing either, same lake in the summer and we catch some nice ones. Thanks for sharing!
You should definitely using the plastic bag "trick" for sleeping. Winter bears and early spring females with cubs, looking for food could be a problem. When I lived in Alaska it was before bear spray. In winter if out we were hunting so... The canister is really so small and light April is probably time.
Greetings from the UK, recently discovered your channel and would like to thank both you and Erin. Been a bit down lately and something about these videos has cheered me up a great deal!
On your snowshoe trek I was wondering how you don’t get lost? It all looks the same, shoe prints could get hidden and breadcrumbs not so much. GPS perhaps?
I have offline maps on my phone (which doesn't need signal to use GPS) 🙂 But I can usually follow my own tracks back (even if it's snowing heavily like this the imprint is usually visible, what washes it out more is strong wind), and I'm always looking back and taking mental pictures in case my phone stops working (it has happened). For longer canoe trips I always have paper maps as well. But most of all, I find navigation on lakes to be much easier than almost anywhere else. There are usually islands, points, bays, etc. that can really help orient me...in thick woods, desert, plains, etc that could be a lot harder
Great vid Jon. Have you ever thought about a hammock hot tent for late fall/early spring seasons? What a difference of conditions compared to down here in Kingston.
Thanks Seann! I don't know about hammock hot tenting...I don't like that I'd have to get out of the hammock to stoke the stove every 2 hours as opposed to just rolling over. The practical side of me doesn't see it but I've never tried so I shouldn't close myself off to it. Hahah yeah I grew up in Toronto and spring certainly never looked like this there
What a beautiful place awesome cinematography nice hike and good food we have such hidden gems in our forest of Canada thanks for taking us along with your camp out always so enjoyable to watch
