Solo Camping in Grizzly Country - Slough Creek in May

Hiking or backpacking Slough Creek is always fun. Lots of wildlife (and grizzly bears) everywhere and it is very peaceful and quiet. Most of the grizzly bears are on the other side of the river with most black bears on the trail side. Mid May to late June is the best time to do this hike because by July it gets very hot in this valley.

Great videos Stan. Of all the streams and rivers I fish, the beauty of Slough Creek is my #1. I get up there every fall, late September into October. Have NEVER seen the level of bear activity you see. Am I just missing sightings or is the timing not good for bear activity? I carry a big scope so ability to see wildlife not an issue.

Hi Stan, may I ask what is your background, are you a former park ranger or field biologist? It seems you have a lot of experience and are consistently able to capture wildlife and handle grizzly encounters. Could you give some advice as to how you prepared for your current “hobby” ? And of course thank you for all the wonderful footage and work that you do!

Jerod, you can do the same thing if you want to do it. You can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it. I am no expert at or from anything. I just enjoy being out in God’s wonderful creation and seeing all the wildlife. Thank you for your nice comment.
