In July I spent 4 days solo trip hiking and backpacking in the North Cascades National Park in Washington. From an overnight on Sahale Glacier filled with mountain goats to numerous dips in the glacier fed lakes, this is a video full of stunning scenery and hard hikes.
***Park Update on Fires- as of August 12,2023 Sourdough Mountain is on fire and some of the park near Ross Lake and Sourdough are closed. Check the park website for updates.

Wow, these must be challenging trails to ascend! But sometimes steep hikes are uniquely enjoyable because they really work all the muscles including the core muscles. I used to dance best (when I was a few decades younger l) after a summer of climbing steep peaks and getting a more thorough workout head to toe. I’m thankful for all the blissful moments you filmed 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I am a native of the North Cascades. I've spent that last 50+ years hiking and backpacking the North Cascades National Park and surrounding wilderness areas. There really are no easy hikes here but they are all worth the effort. Very good video. You really captured the essence of the North Cross corridor hikes. If you are ever in this area again I would recommend the Mt Baker Wilderness. A myriad of hikes centered around the majestic Mt Baker. Again, wonderful video. Thanks so much.

you get around a lot!! that was some awesome hiking you did. I saw a video you did one time of longs peak in colorodo. wow , that was impressive!! was that your hardest hike? i have done some peaks before. i did avelanche peak in Yellowstone park. it had 2000 ft of gain in 2 miles. , but it does not compare to anything like longs peak. i bike a lot and stay in shape.I mean some of those hikes you are doing are way out there. your awesome!!

Hi, sorry if this is silly question but if I have an annual NP pass do I still need to get the forest pass for parking at trailheads?
@AliceFordAdventures
@AliceFordAdventures 4 месяца назад
Yes technically you need one of the state passes for this park, its kind of strange, I think you should be fine if you display you NP park but you are really supposed to have the WA state park pass as this park does not charge an entry fee.

This is a great video Alice. I understand the effort and time it takes to edit footage, which in return makes it impossible for us viewers to critic your work... 😂 The views are stunning. I have been backpacking nearby many times, on the Canadian 🇨🇦 side, in Manning Provincial Park where exists an extensive network of trails that leads south of the border, including the PCT. I should make good use of my passport and head south. North Cascades would be ideal actually, simply for the lack of people visiting. Thanks for sharing 🥾😎🏔☯️🇨🇦🇺🇸🍔🍺🌻

I enjoy your hiking videos. 9 years ago my wife and I hiked a section of the PCT from Big Bear to Lake Arrowhead. We are living in Ecuador now and we love it hear. I noticed when you add your narration to your videos it has a bit of an echo sound. I figured out an easy way of getting rid of the echo. I put a blanket over my head and that gets rid of all the echo. The blanket creates a cheep DIY recording studio.

This is all in my backyard. Totally blessed to have it so close and live here. Sadly we do have a lot of trail head break ins. If you ever get a change to hike the Enchantment Lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness you need to jump on it. It is , by far, the most beautiful area in Washington. Permits are hard to get, especially for the Core zone, less than 1 chance to win one in the lottery. But, it's a must do. Love your videos!

Nice survey of a region I hiked for over 40 years. Trails can be steep in these extremely rugged and precipitous mountains. The ones you hiked are well traveled highways compared to those in more remote, less visited areas. Glad you had good weather, which can be chancy. Also, I advise keeping your distance from Mountain Goats. They are very unpredictable. Hikers in Washington have been seriously injured, even killed by them.
@AliceFordAdventures
@AliceFordAdventures Год назад
Thanks for the advice, I did not approach any of the mountain goats they came to my camp site as they like salt and so many people have peed up there that it’s a spot they love.

Hi Alice, I’m new to your channel and am impressed by your expertise and ability in the remote high country. I almost never comment but I should here. I used to work at a research institute and do grad studies at the UW in Seattle. I’m a wilderness guy from age 12 , a scientist and a senior NASA engineer. I hiked up to Cascade Pass in the N Cascades 2 months b4 it officially became a Nat Park. The best adjectives are Stunning Rugged and Wild! I have some comments to share. 1) Most folks stop at Cascade Pass to simply admire the amazing views. 37 switchbacks! Impressed that you made it to Sahale Arm. I also agree that ALL TRAILS is a great resource -- there and globally. 2) There are cougars in these mountains. My favorite animal! They need their space and rarely bother people but if they do get aggressive they can attack from behind. High aspect packs may help. Solo hiking in these kinds of places and in Glacier Park and others with cougars and grizzlies is not something I’d want my daughters to do. I would say. 'Good, You go solo hiking and I will go solo hiking with you! We will go solo hiking but … together’. 3) It is great when you’re in terrific shape and all systems are ‘go’ but one twist of your ankles in rocks or crossing a stream can set you down hours from help, unable to walk with a heavy pack and maybe with night closing in before camp. I think I spotted an emergency satellite beacon (Garmin 'In Reach') on your pack and that could be a life saver. Thanks for pointing out that NO ONE SHOULD BE UP IN THESE MOUNTAINS WITHOUT SOME SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE! A young girl was lost for 9 days near Index Wa a couple of years ago! 4) There are more crazy people out there than ever now. I never had to worry about people breaking into my car back in the day. Now it is commonplace in the trailhead parking lots. And, it is an awful fact, but never forget:to the bad guys A WOMAN ALONE IS A TARGET. 5) Lastly I did have to laugh when you pronounced SEQUIM. They could’ve just left the ‘e’ out. Many place names in Washington state are of indigenous origin and hard to pronounce correctly. So everyone quickly knows if you’re from elsewhere. Now I’ve said more here than all comments I’ve ever written in a decade put together. You are a special person. Good luck whatever you do and wherever you go. Mountain Man
