Hi m8, come to Australia? My friend David Willson was murdered by the Khmer Rouge when he was kidnapped from a train along with a French and an American.
Afternoon Bald! I'd recommend getting chatGPT, Claude or another app for use with translation, you can just record what they say and it'll output it in your language. I'm sure there are better ones but that's what i've used
BRUTAL: How could you survive with only beautiful polite people, nice buildings, no people touching and scamming you, no car horns at all times and no poop-ologists dumping in the streets.
You obviously didn't even watch this video before commenting. Just wanted to get on the India hate band wagon hey? Did your "ears enjoy" the train trip where he couldn't even talk due to the constant horn?
@@Ash_18037 you might not believe this but that's what trains do everywhere They alert people and things like cows and animals and cars that they are coming and so no one gets hit by the train. Train deaths in Cambodia are astonishing low for their population density
Thank you for visiting my country. You asked a woman for Pol Pot grave, but the App translated "I'm looking a road to Police". The woman responded "I just moved here and go to that way, they might know". When you're at the water crossing, you asked the less shirt guy about Is there any Pol Pot people here". He said "Yes, there's, but they won't let you interview them". He pointed a small hut with red brick roof across where you asked a question. That is Pol Pot place he died. You should contact Patrick who is a young American living in Phnom-Penh with his Cambodian wife to tag along. He speaks fluent Khmer language. It will be helpful for you.
I thought about moving to Cambodia but its a regime that enforces vaccination, sadly a deal breaker. Maybe any Cambodians can share their knowledge, was it possible to remain unvaccinated or did the police / state force the injections on everyone? Google says the country has one of the highest covid vaccination rates on earth.
As long as you show respect for the people, their country and customs, are friendly yourself you will be welcomed with open arms. Same goes for Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia. It's one of the greatest regions of the world to visit over and over
"they appear to be extremely happy and not at all bitter about the past, unlike it has to be said in other parts of the world where there are whole groups that still collectively blame their current problems on events that happened 200 years ago" Quite well summaried actually.
The difference is in Cambodia they no longer get treated the way they got treated in the 90s,but when you come to the people who were mistreated 200yrs ago even upto now they still get treated the same way, which you as yhite person it's very hard to comprehend.
American here, I worked on a construction project in Cambodia a while back and everyone who super cool. I will say a few people opened up about the insanity of the Khmer Rouge. One guy had most of his family killed, his brother in a field, and he managed to make it to Thailand through the jungle. Guy was super cool and friendly. Said he started a new life and hes super thankful about it. Otherwise people were just so friendly, the food is great. They have like the best rice in the world...I cant explain why but its so good.
This video just sets India in such a bad light, it's amazing. They are both countries in development, but Cambodia is clean, organized, even when you see their stuff is old, like their trains, they are still clean and well maintained. They follow traffic laws, plus, their nature is great. India needs a complete turnaround to get their shit together.
It's funny how foreigners mostly w8tes will travel to India and purposely go to the worst places to travel (old delhi, varanasi, Calcutta) which is common knowledge not only amongst Indians themselves but amongst travelers globally, just so they can make negative videos for sensation and views. When the fact of the matter is India has beautiful beaches, resorts in the south (kerela goa etc ie tourist areas) beautiful mountains and snowy areas in the north like Shimla, Risikesh in states like himachal pradesh and uttarkhand, theres ther north east which has arunachal pradesh etc. Yet despite common knowledge amongst those who travel to India these vloggers choose to avoid such places for the former just for content and to make videos such as this
Pol Pot murdered teachers, engineers, electricians, doctors, builders and anyone with an education and sent the country back to the stone age and yet today, Cambodia and especially Phnom Penh rival any city in Asia. Got to admire the Cambodians positivity and not looking back in anger. PS. Bald is correct. Cambodia is much cleaner than India.
A certain demographic in the US who constantly whine about their past should learn from these people.. or many other cultures who have been through atrocities in the past and choose to put the past behind them and live in dignity and peace!
As someone who lives in Cambodia and has for quite some time, this was very interesting. Most Khmer people do not want to talk about the past, as it left so many scars on the country that still affect it to this day. Despite that, Cambodians are some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Even simple farmers out in the rural areas who don't speak any English whatsoever will try their best to help you in any way they can. Truly a hidden gem
I travelled there when I was young, the difference between the Cambodians and the Indians was striking. Two peoples in South Asia and yet so different in culture and respect for others.
Thanks for shining a light on the tragedy that was Cambodia 1975-79 under the terrors of the Khmer Rouge. People forget. Thankfully, Cambodia has moved on. A beautiful country, beautiful people.
You look at recent genocides like Rwanda and they’re literally a powder keg just waiting to erupt again. Cambodia moved on, not without struggle and a true testament to its people.
@@jameswilker1774 - true. God alone knows what's currently happening in Myanmar with the Rohingya situation. It just falls off the Western news agenda. We only hear about it when the atrocities come to light.
I second that part about how clean Cambodia is, Honestly despite the lack of english speakers compared to Indias capital, I'd much prefer to visit Cambodia. beautiful to see!
Delhi is a very old urban city for first tourists coming to India. I would recommend Goa or Kerala in the south with its beaches or Ladakh Himachal Pradesh Himalayan mountainous regions in north
I'd like to say that those in the country side/unpopular tourism area are lacking in English but if you visit their capital city the English aren't even a problem especially the young generation they're speaking fluently English in the capital.
@@necroplastful it's a fact back in the past but not now. The newer generation (mostly city folk) prefer and use English since it's give them a better job opportunity
@@necroplastful Here's another fun fact: That's incorrect. They gained their independence from France in 1953. So maybe only 5% do,... that are over 65. Their English proficiency is trending upwards, especially amongst the youth. Cheers
Man I miss Cambodia. For a country that is still recovering from an absolutely devastated generation it has such a wonderful feel. Says a lot about the people and the culture.
That is why you see a lot of youtubers moving to south east asia. They still make their youtube money but can live for cheap instead of just scraping by.
Cambodia is the only country ive been to where a group of people will invite you every time to eat and drink beer with them. The reason he pulled the beer ring for you is because you can potentially win thousands of dollars or a car and there have been fights in the past after the buyer of the beer has shared his beer and the person who opened it runs off and claims the prize 😂
The ring pull is worth nothing for big prizes without the empty can as it has a matching aligned image stamped inside and both must be presented for the prize claim. Not everyone here is aware of that rule and it creates quite a problem when greed kicks in and one or both dont want to share.
Indonesia used to be like that, Vietnam and rural Thailand are like that. Lost count how many times I've been invited back to strangers homes for a sit down family feast, jokes about marrying their daughters and home made rice based liquor
usually the big prizes (eg. cars or motorbikes) are never in just one ring (you're gonna need to collect maybe 4 rings each with a piece of the 'puzzle'); I think what's happening here is for those exchange things where u can get 1 free beer for every, say 20 rings.
I visited Cambodia a few years ago as a tourist ... It's a beautiful country with wonderful, welcoming people. Long-live, peace and prosperity to Cambodia and her people! ☮ ☮ ☮ ✌✌✌
The Cambodian people are really well behaved and very helpful expecting nothing in return. Meanwhile, in India you'll get mugged but before that you'll catch a disease from their water.
@@robo9804 Bald's most recent video was in India. He showed the truth about how awful India is. Now him and Backpacker Ben needed an actual vacation and not being scammed by every single person or having to step over human feces or dodging children who yank on your arm begging for money while you're sleeping on the train lmao.
I'm cambodian and I have been watching your videos since you're in Belarus and finally , now you have arrived in my country. Enjoy your time in Cambodia, bald. I recommend you to explore our ancient city "Siem reap" which is the former city of our great Khmer empire during the 11 century.
@@hypnophonz It's as safe as any other country, especially safer (violence wise) than Europe. Accidents? don't do stupid things and nothing will happen to you. Been here for almost a year now and had no accidents. With that said, Thailand is still the better option.
People I've met claimed that it's dangerous but they never been there. The cambos that I've met in the have problems. Gangs drugs etc. People I've met that used to live there love it. It's cheaper than Thailand and Visa's are easy. That being said they still prefer Thailand.
@@abhinavborkotoky5532Delhi is not mainland India. Mainland would be Mumbai, Bangalore even Gujarat Ahmedabad. Plenty of diversity in main land India then just old Varanasi or something
Cambodians amongst the friendliest people I've ever met. Beautiful country, amazing temples, yet the killing fields and modern history are heartbreaking. It's great the see the country bouncing back.
Cambodians are such wonderful, welcoming and giving people . I represented a man in court who was originally from cambodia and was a child soldier and victim of the Khmer Rouge. He was a wonderful person who I now consider a friend. He welcomed me into the Cambodian-American community in the city of Lowell Massachusetts. All great people .
Thank you bald and Ben, I probably never would have thought Cambodia is such a nice place if it weren’t for you. Showing the history and culture while having a blast and filming it for us. Great work and please keep uploading
Amazing that guy led you all that way. He was just like “yeah sure I’ll take you there let’s go.” I live in Japan and have had a lot of similar experiences with people just giving me rides or taking me to dinner. I met an old Japanese guy at the maglev museum and he offered to take me to the train station but then got a call from his friend who wanted to get dinner so we went to a restaurant with his old female friend. I also became friends with the owner of a hotel in Hokkaido and he took me sledding down mountain roads at midnight with his family which was the craziest thing I’ve ever done. I also got to volunteer in a huge Shinto festival and dress up and everything. If you’re not an extrovert… pretend to be one.
I'm an introvert, but that sounds fantastic, seriously. To have people show you places or situations that you'd never otherwise experience... incredible!
@@bendecoHis older videos were about exploring the communist past of East European nations, he’s just able to do it in Cambodia for the first time in a while
Cambodia is a beautiful country. I lived in Phnom Penh for 3 months. They may be poor but most people have a heart of gold. I have been to both Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, but Cambodia is for me the best of them. Even if you travel out to the smaller villages.
I met a man whose family was slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge. I was speechless as he told me how people were slaughtered like animals. His parents were peasants and were not political. Somehow he escaped and wound up in the US where he opened a doughnut shop.
@@louiss2441people in the States are too indoctrinated to think everything bad is related to communism yet they have no problem with Vietnam. Of course, this is the same people have no issue with their government invading Iraq and illegally bombing Yugoslavia for 40days straight.
All the road sides are filled with garbage. People just throw everything there and hardly use any garbage bins. Water canals in Phnom Penh are god awfull and youll puke if you go near em. City streets are cleaned, but thats about it.
@@TheSycotik Honestly cleaner than many parts the US, to be honest. Even with poverty and pollution, people here are far more respectful in spite of their lack of resources
Hit up Siem Reap's Ankor Wat if u haven't planned to already. I'd also recommend getting up before sunrise to view and in addition you"ll avoid the crowds & heat, Cheers
I visited S-21 in Cambodia two months ago. There were two of the few survivors sitting there, sharing their stories, and you could buy their signed books. For those who are interested, the book I bought is called Survivor: The Triumph of an Ordinary Man in the Khmer Rouge Genocide. I’ve never read a biography that included so much suffering and hardship as this one.
Man these videos are the most engaging content on RU-vid in my opinion. Just absolutely wild how captivating you're able to make the most mundane things.
i love how bald explains the history and context of the places he visits, i feel he truly admires and appreciates the time and places he visits. good job lad!
I’m originally from Bangladesh. People give India a hard time re lack of cleanliness but I’m afraid I have to report that urban Bangladesh is pretty awful too. Dhaka in particular. I’ve done a fair bit of travelling around South East Asia and it’s really noticeable how much cleaner it is than South Asia.
It's all bad even when you come to the west. Youre own personal hygiene leaves alot to be desired. And I don't get it in the west we invented soap deodorant shower gel. Even extractors for the kitchen
@@johnsmith-ht3sy some poor people in India have to live in very bad standards, its not their mistake. Criticizing is good but insulting and comparing Indians to dogs, all those are extreme. History proved pride comes before fall I believe time will prove this again.
Maybe just biased after watching the India video, but Cambodia seems so peaceful. The people seem like some of the most friendly people you have met thus far. There is something to be said about true suffering and the indomitable spirit of the Cambodians. Such lovely people with such a dark history
Lived here for awhile and can confirm they are some of the best people out there. Especially if you make an attempt to speak the language! If you come here head to some smaller towns for an experience you won't get anywhere else 🤙🏻
You are so right. Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Korea, and other Asian nations have a phenomenal way of bouncing back from tragedy within a generation. In contrast, in America (*cough), some people have been using events from hundreds of years ago to blame their current-day situations.
Systemic issues regardless of location are hard to overcome. It’s easier to clean a city than educate the masses. Unless you’re India, then both are impossible
Despite it's horrible past - what a nice clean country Cambodia is!!!! Nice to see they care about their country, and have not turned it onto a rubbish dump (like another country that Bald has visited recently!!) Safe travels!!!
Getting on the bike holding a beer talking to the military guy is so funny to me. Omg the chaos of the rain is amazing. Thank you for sharing the history. It's something I know little about.
My god, Cambogia is amazing, I fell in love with it... I'd live in the lake city and it's relatively clean compared to other "third world" countries. That train station is cleaner than many italian stations... And the capital looks nice. Also Buddhist temples are astonishing, I hope you'll show one in the next part of the video. BEST COUNTRY 😭
You stayed around the corner from me in PP. Cambodia has a plan for development, especially given it’s so recent past. Looking forward to your next vlogs. The kindest and most genuine people you’ll ever meet.
The way those children holded their hand to show gratitude , this is what etiquette looks like. I've no clue about Bald's intentions to denigrate India but he just showed you the Indian in present. You can despise him as much as u want or can start rejuvenating India and Indian's behavior. We got a lot to improve in India.I bet say, Bald is an intellectual person. He might have passed some withering comments however he posses acerbic wit, He is a gentleman.
we learnt that etiquette from the ancient indians. sad to see modern indians no longer continue the legacy of their ancestors but instead the tradition is carried on by the cambodians
@@cambodianpleasuresquad1753well said, but modern north India is merely an overpopulated extension of the Middle East. Parts of South India still maintain the cultural continuum to south east Asia.
Thank you once again, Ben, for this amazing video! The people of Cambodia are resilient people and if we can learn from the past, we can plan and build a brighter future!
Great vid. !👍You are a crazy fam. trooper, all videos are genious ! Cambodia is one of best countries despite the very cruel story, people now have overcome it and can look forward to be happy again ! Love for Cambodia and people❤!❤🙏THY

6:00 Ganz Berg Beer is German Premium Beer, that nobody knows in Germany, but it is made by a german brewmaster in Cambodia and is popular among the locals
In Thailand there was also a german beer from 'Kloster-Brauerei' which was only available there. The Thai called it 'Klotaeh' It wasn't bad, but disappeared in 2015 or so
We had toured the killing fields in the morning, then after lunch and quiet reflection, our group was taken to S21 detention museum - had to leave the tour 30 minutes in. Stared at the open sky in the courtyard for a long time, afterward - thankful for the freedoms I had taken for granted. That level of inhuman malice is inconceivable.
this has been one of my favorite Bald vlogs yet. so much fun and chill. the cambodians are happy people as are you in your small pink ill-fitted generalize merchandise helment. it really will help while you drink beer and cruise over roughshod roads steering one handed my friend!!!
