sling around the neck.... not the best idea, and also it´s nice to have a micro-traxion or any similar device to both manage slack and as a backup.

Thank you for the video! Really nice option with the cow hitch ! so we can totally rely on grigri that will not fall apart?? don't know why in other videos they all use one more thing in plus, like a micro traxion

Hi Herbert, benutzt du lieber das Grigri oder den Shunt für Top Rope solo?
@allalpin

Lieber den Shunt, denn das Grigir hat zu viel Reibung.

Is tehre any self locking device that is speed activated on the market? Because GriGri is friction activated and thats unsafe for solo. I know Silent Partner, but thats the only one and it cost same as a house.
@allalpin

I know that the GriGri is friction activated and therefore the cow hitch does the back up in case the GriGri doesn’t work.

There are self locking devices that are speed activated but they aren’t belay devices. They tend to be sold as rope access work devices called “fall arresters”. A couple examples are the camp goblin, dmm buddy, kong backup etc.

Not convinced. Just go with unmodded GriGri and a Micro Traxxion at the back of the harness. Stay away from improvised chest rig, imho.

I'm not sure I understand the need for the hole drilled in the grigri nor the need to sling it over your head. If anything this seems more dangerous as it makes it easy to yank your head forward if the fall angle isn't ideal. I assume that thin cord should break before your neck, but if you have the sling through your biner like the later setups, that could be potentially fatal under the right/wrong falling circumstances. I can understand wanting the setup clean, but I'd recommend using a proper chest harness or a shoulder wrapped sling at least. Also it wasn't clear to me what the intended use of the clove hitches on the rope are __after__ you clip them. Do you undo the hitch or leave them hitched after passing the bolt? I guess your intention is to unhitch them after clipping, otherwise your falls are going to be on a VERY short amount of rope, leading to VERY hard falls.

You're right = not around your neck. Ask Emily Harrington about her fall at Yosemite. She would have broken her neck for sure, and almost did anyway. Use a chest harness or an elastic cord affixed to the backpack containing your rope. Which means I also do not agree with his way of carrying the rope up using quickdraws and hitches.

why do you assume if you dont make the third bolt you will have a fator 2 fall. That doesnt make any sense and depends on how high the bolts are
@allalpin
@allalpin 3 года назад
I assume you don’t know what a fall factor is. It doesn’t depends how high the bolts are. The fall factor is calculated as follows: Used rope divided by the height of the fall.
