ashborn was killed by the rulers at first place after they killed the absolute being but the absolute being had given him the power to control death so he became the Shadow monarch after he's death who fought against the monarchs in the end since they betrayed him as well.

They explain Absolute Being's power with an analogy about how humans can create machines and get killed by them too. He can only create things, but can't used it effectively in battle(if he can even use it), as he was easily killed by the Rulers despite having Cup of Reincarnation at the times. Ikr, Him being a God and stated to be the most powerful being in existence yet was still can be killed by his own creations seems like a plot-hole, it seems like he's not actually a Supreme God, just merely one of many Gods that exist in the universe, but the novel and manga never expand this... well, Solo Leveling was never known for having a good story writing tho.
