Nice video. Interestingly at 37 minutes, when you use the 5X storage for the first time, you place one wood from your storage in the 5X storage area, then place a further 5 wood tokens back in the box. You have removed 6 tokens from your storage and have swindled yourself out of one wood.

Nice playthrough. I must get this back to the table. it's probably been around a year since I last played. i think I've just about recovered from the trauma of playing it by now. :D At 1:25:45 you discarded the book - I don't think you should do that. I mean, a book doesn't get destroyed by reading it (although if it's me, I do seem to make the book damaged, especially the spine, haha). It certainly doesn't say anything about discarding it in the spirit text. Great game though, it really is a masterpiece. I don;t think I've ever cared about game characters as much as the ones in this game. Just as an aside, i found it interesting the way you say 'herb', as an american. I think it's the first time I've heard an American pronounce the H, like we English do. Mostlyy it's that really hard glottal stop at the start followed by erb, that we find very strange, this side of the pond.
Thanks for the comment! You’re right, I messed up that bit with the book. I wasn’t supposed to discard it. And concerning my pronunciation, I am actually French-Canadian. But I grew up watching a lot of American TV, and now I watch a lot of British TV... so my pronunciation is always all over the place! 😂
@@TheMountainGamer Ahh my apologies! I didn't notice any of the typoical Canadian vowel sounds that I normally recognise as pointers to someone being Canadian. I guess that happens differently when your native language is French :) Looking forward to watching the rest of the playthrough :)
Nice work! Not sure if it was already mentioned - but the advanced rules are in the book of scripts. The journal has faq’s for each phase that brings you to the scripts and then advance rules are linked from there.
This is a well made production and I love the content which was presented in a clear and succinct manner. Nice throw in about the Sarajevo backstory and how it influence this game heavily. Some mistakes made in this game are acceptable as the most important element of this game is to enjoy the immersive experience and it's fun despite the overall dark, mature plus doom and gloom theme and mechanics. Thanks to you I'm more confident in starting my solo journey into this dark and broken world of humanity and survival game.
I’m glad I could help! This game is very punishing - which fits the theme perfectly - but it’s also an extremely rewarding experience... And you’re right, even if you make a few rules mistakes, it doesn’t break the game; if you just use your imagination, you’ll always find a way to integrate that mistake into the story of what’s happening to your characters. ..... @@TheMountainGamer I'm always open to difficult games that are challenging and welcome the opportunity to learn them. I just don't like games that are convoluted for no reason and especially poorly designed that make it impossible to explore and enjoy the game.
Love your playthrough! I wish I had you to explain the rules to me before I played the board game the first time. It's really satisfying to see you using the advanced rules as well. This game is fantastic and you produced amazing content right there. Also love the original game's OST in the bg :D Excited to see round 2!

Hi, great video and very good Sarajevo intro. I have the game as well and played it a lot. And I like to watch others how they do it and what rule I may misunderstood. Maybe you know that already but I have a new insight for a rule. For your Day Actions explanation I think it is a little bit different. The daily actions are broken up into 3 steps (4 if you play it with the exhaustion expert rule). The dots on the condition tokens represent from left to right the first, second and third action phase. So if there comes an additional person to the group during the day you can always look if he can do actions by looking at the action phase you are and if his conditions let him do that or if his condition has a black dot for that action phase. I always wondered how I know how many actions a newcomer would have until I figured that out for me. e.g. If you got a newcomer in the second action phase and he has hunger 2 then he is not able to participate in the third action phase 'cause hunger 2 has a black dot on the action phase. I he would come in the first action phase with the same conditions then he can participate in the second phase.
Hi Rico. I was going to comment exactly the same. I understood that the day actions phase is divided into three parts. If a character with only one available action enters the first or second part of this phase, he will not be able to perform any actions. For example, a character with two available actions who entered the shelter in the first part of the day actions phase could take only the second action, not two actions. On the other hand, a magnificent video, with great tips, perfect editing, good quality, etc.
A friend of my mine asked, now with the war in Ukraine, with these horrors next door, should we play such a game? I told him: This is exactly the moment to play such a game and remember what these people are going through...
Of course... a subject like this, in the real world... it's serious business. I can understand that some people would be put off by the game because of that. I think that it very much comes down to your location in the world right now, and how you feel about the horrible shit that's going on in Ukraine. For myself, I'm located far away from the conflict; I *hate* that it's going on, but it doesn't negatively affect how I feel about This War of Mine. The game *is* just a game, of course -- and it's easy to dismiss it because of that very fact -- *but* I find that it serves as another reminder of just how morally bankrupt war can be. It *is* a form of entertainment (like a war film or a protest song), but it tells a compelling story of both darkness and light for (fictitious) people caught up in a dire situation. And at the end of it all, it serves as yet another reminder that war is hell. But again... it might be too much for some people. But I think it has to be said: the game does not want to trivialize war, nor make it glamorous in any way. The designers were adamant about this. The game's *reason for being* is to tell human stories that unfold in a horrible situation.
I think so, yes. I always play with the advanced rules ; eating at any time is very useful. If you give me a timestamp I can check out exactly what you are referring to.
@@TheMountainGamer i believe that Giacomo Breschi means that, in the first turn, because your characters had 3 turns available (so all slots), there is ANOTHER advanced rule that allows you to take 2 extra fatigue with a character to get a 4th action that day. This could have happened with each character that turn. It's arguable if that is worth it, but considering you got the bed, taking some fatigue could have been interesting for even more day 1 actions.
Yeah I totally forgot that rule: if your character has 3 white dots, they can bump up their fatigue to take a 4th action! I always forget to do that ! 🤦🏻♂️
