I did not plan to become a solo sailor, but circumstances made me one.
In March 2020, when the Corona virus was spreading like wildfire, I happened to be alone on our sailboat, Kaka, at anchor at the French island Saint-Martin in the Caribbean, which extended its hospitality to me and many other cruisers.
Cruisers were allowed to sail ashore by dinghy to buy provisions, but apart from that, because of the virus, we had to stay in quarantine on our boats.
After weeks at anchor and with travel restrictions making it impossible for new crew to join as scheduled, I decided to sail home to my wife in Denmark by myself, before the onset of the hurricane season.
The longest trip I had sailed solo prior to embarking on this voyage was crossing the Bay of Biscay, a trip of two and a half days. Crossing the Atlantic Ocean would require weeks of solo sailing.
This is the story of my solo voyage back across the Atlantic Ocean.
