Raising that mast is probably the most impressive thing I have seen on any sailing channel. Well done team, well done indeed!

I became hooked on sailing and living on the water as an adventure way back in the early 70's when I read the story, and later saw the movie "The Dove". My hopes and desires were smashed when a close relative said, do you know what all that would cost??? I live on a lake and had a small sail boat years ago and learned to sail it. Now I'm old, have the $$$'s to make it happen but the body recoils from the thought. So I live it through youtube channels like you'res and a few others. For you're up coming series about you're self, just tell us who you are and where you came from and how you got to where you are today. And what put the dream in you're heart and gave you the strength and drive to just "go and do it".

Hi Holly. I have lived all my life on the edges of the Happy Wetland empire, and Neptune is the Emperor. You just showed us in this video how tough his rules can be but how toughened his subjects become when they embrace him with grace. I wish I had the guts like you or the strong musles of the tuna. You both shine brightly showing us what true living is about. I admire how you help other subjects in true camaraderie. You made my 53rd birthday

Being self sufficient and capable like this just puts a big smile on my face! @@SVAnotherAdventure I too wonder the financial how in a non judgmental way but a serious inquiry! Without out making you feel uncomfortable as you don't need to divulge your financial status. How to make money to keep up with the costs of maintaining and running boats. Seems like a very helpful community with all sorts of expertise to help each other out, but what are the list costs of operating. Also, what about planning- or not planning for future? Where do you see yourself in 5-10-20 years? Also, you mentioned on facebook taking on new crew from time to time and splitting costs.. what would that number be roughly and what are some requirements for a crew...asking for a friend! :) Found you on Bill Black Facebook, another person I hope to connect with soon!

Hi Holly, thanks for sharing your adventure. I loved the Sta-Lock detail and would love you to take the same sort of a-few-second explanations that we can learn from. For example, when you stepped the mast, I would have liked to see the sling or other connection to the mast that you rigged up to lift it and whether that permitted you to avoid a bosun-chair ride to disconnect the makeshift cranes. I thoroughly enjoy your adventures and spirit. The world needs more people like you!

Hi, I'm 72 and so far I've had a good life on dry land in the UK. It's lovely to see you and your friends living as you do. Many of us 'sensible' oldies grew up making sure we had a job and money to live our lives and to pay into a retirement pension. So, I'm curious, how do you fund what you do or do you manage without much money? I'm not asking for private details, just an indication of how you fund your lovely life style. If others knew how you make ends meet, maybe they would have a go at sail boat living. If I knew and I were 30 again maybe I would too...... Best wishes Tony

This video took me back 43 years ago to when we lowered our mast on a 30' sloop with an "A-frame" constructed from a bunch of 2x4s that we nailed together. We nearly killed ourselves!! Your method for raising that mast is ingenious!! Thanks for documenting the procedure. So I have your life for a few years a long time ago but left it to pursue career goals and family life - but kept cruising the New England coast during the summer months the whole time. I now have my course set for a comfortable sailing retirement. Now my question - When I cast off the lines for warm water locations during the winter months and possibly year-round sailboat living, where would you suggest are the best destinations? Perhaps better put, what are your favorite locations and why? Thanks in advance for your response. Looking forward to your next video. Happy birthday!! Cheers. Rick

Hi Solo Holly Enjoying your great sailing episodes. Since I left you a note about my solo sails, I am very concerned for you. When at sea, and alone, on your voyages, PLEASE wear a harness and have a tether attached at all times even before you leave the cabin. Rough waves can happen and toss you from the boat at anytime . Have a terylene line not nylon from bow of the boat to the stern . Have arranged step to get back on board as well. You never want to see your boat on auto pilot sail away in mid ocean. Cheers, ken Holly, I have a daughter your age. Daughters are very precious.
@SVAnotherAdventure
@SVAnotherAdventure 5 лет назад
I have all of the above and do use them on most occasions. At the very least I can always always always have a life jacket and My e perb attached to my body. Because of Eperb on calm days I may be less likely to wear my tether but I do have adequate safety devices... And no father So no one is terribly concerned about this ’Daughter’ hence why I learn to take care of myself :-) I do appreciate your concern and advice

@@SVAnotherAdventure Wow! that was a quick answer and thanks. I am greatly relieved. Silly of me to think that you were not on top of what is needed. Few people realize the wonderful capacities of solo sailors. Not only are you Jack of all trades, but have the great mental ability to enhance your being in a very lonely/possible devastating environment and survive . I never was lonely because of so much to do, and land will be soon coming Obviously, your very happy/secure with yourself doing what is impossible for most people. Hi!! Happy Birthday! Looking forward to hearing more about ya. Some questions for next ep: What was your most challenging mechanical fix? Have you heard of using Dyneema for standing rigging? Would you consider switching to an electric engine? Taking on a boat that was (um, sunk? or partially sunk?) seems risky, could you talk about how the pros out-weighed the cons and the damage typically found on boats under (some) water? Do you take on a crew from time to time?...Where do i sign up?! Hope you choose some of my questions for your next post...can't wait to drink the next episoda, duh.

Looks like fun! Think I'll do it too! Here's my plan. Leave Michigan go to Florida get a free floating sailing thing like you live on and Resurrect it. Step 2 learn how to make it go. Step 3 eat fish party and help my new friends. Step 4 buy Holly a bottle of tequila for making these videos If I ever run into her!! Happy birthday people like you make the world a better place! Question do you see any major flaws in my plan? Nevermind I know that's not possible:-)

What island were you guys hiking on? Cool that you are going to do an introduction episode. I was curious how you got started and how you got Another Adventure. Really love that drone shot at the end!

I'm really looking forward to hearing how you and Another Adventure came together. How long did it take to get the mast raised doing it that way? What kind and year of sail boat is Another Adventure? Did you have prior sailing experience?
