Solo shore fishing on jurassic rock cliffs. After passing the age of 70 years you would think our GP would be feet in slippers, sat by the fire, nodding off with a cup of hot cocoa.....Nah...that ain't happening just yet. He celebrated with the rest of the Pullen gang by enjoying a booking made by Mike at Dorset's Anvil Point lighthouse, in the heart of the Jurassic coast. But if they thought they would be spending quality time with Dad they were wrong...He was straight out abseiling down the rocks in the dark with a failing head torch to spend his own quality time trying to find some Jurassic fish...Sit back, and join him on the expedition. (For those who suffer from vertigo, cover your eyes for some of the shots where he peers over the edge with the head cam).. Enjoy.. Not many 70-year olds doing what our boy does..

The last time I found a setting like that I didn't want to leave. I had the Sun beating down on me warming the rocks and I didn't really care if I caught or not. I love catching wrasse now and that's down to watching your videos Graeme. I put two rods out for bigger fish and sit and catch wrasse on Earth worms (another of your tips). The wrasse fishing certainly keeps you entertained. Thanks for the video and I hope you shift that cold soon. Get a single malt down you, wrap up warm and watch some fishing videos on youtube......There's a really entertaining fellow called Graeme Pullen on there. His Videos are TOTALLY AWESOME!!

Thats my favourite fishing spot on earth, caught loads of wrasse, pollock and some mackies from there, also watched dolphins from the path just above where you are stood, awesome place to fish from, yes that is an ammonite, has deteriorated a bit since i was last down there though, was alot more pronounced and seems to be bits missing off the end of it, if you go further up the coast to swanage you can see a really huge one that would make that one look like the size of a garden snail, only trouble is it is about 20 foot above head level on the beach in the cliff face and wont stay there forever, but a hell of a great thing to see

Nice of you to go out with all the gear and a stinking cold (I hope your over it now) and film for your followers. Strange near the beginning you took a shot of the moon which was absolutely stunning. The whole setting was beautiful and congratulations on the conger I didn't have enough faith in you and thought we were just having a Wrasse fest. Nothing wrong with that the markings are wonderful. Anyway thank you for another wonderful film.

This reminds me a lot of fishing rocky headlands in New South Wales and Victoria. Big baits out wide for snapper, mulloway etc and fishing in close for sweep and luderick. The luderick rigs were often 10-12 foot rods with 3-8 pound line small hooks under a shotted float with sea cabbage for bait. Great fun, but you need to constantly watch the sea state and weather.

Hi Graeme, What a location ! At first i thought it was St Abbs Head near Eyemouth. I love dramatic coastal spots like this, i could stay there for days. It's places like that which really get my brain working hard on how to set up and catch. You really do get away from all the daily crap in places like that. What a great video. Oh and a nice touch with the Poppy. Steve in Fife.

@TAFishing
@TAFishing 2 года назад
I first looked on Google maps and the aerials make it look great, but its not until you get there that you realise much of the coast is inaccessible for fishing. I guess if you want to fish an area that is new to you check with the local tackle shops or fishing clubs first. They can provide the shortcuts.

That definitely looks like an ammonite at 31:57! Likely one of the Heteromorph species with a more open spiral (Order Ancyloceratina) since it doesn't appear to have lost the inner spirals to erosion. Lucky you. Fossils of that size and quality are incredibly rare here in Australia. Really cool thing is, you can date the rocks you're standing on more precisely using ammonite fossils. Order Ancyloceratina apparently evolved during the late Jurassic, but were not very common until the Cretaceous, so your platform was formed somewhere towards the end of the Jurassic and beginning of the Cretaceous period - when a lot of dinosaurs got BIG.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 2 года назад
The entire coast West from here is known as a big fossil hunting area. I was up the British Natural History Museum yesterday where they have a real sized animated T-Rex. Not till you get close that you realise you probably would give him the parking space after all !!

Mr Pullen, please be extra extra careful when fishing from rocks. Its better if you get Mike to go along. Even I wont dare to go alone here in SGP. I also remind my fishing partners time and time again, NOT to venture out to fish alone on the decks in the middle of the night when all the rest are sleeping in the cabins. anything can happen.

I try to be more careful nowadays, but the old saying is "the mind is willing but the body isn't "...very true,its just very hard accepting that its unwise to go leaping around like a 20-year old ....It was still good to get out there though, brought back memories of earlier rock trips.

Although I really enjoyed the video Graham, I also know that coast line and how much has fallen into the sea. Look at Portland Bill, so much has gone that the Trinity House Obelisk is in danger of going.
