How does one get a Promo code, I love your videos, the content and the message. I work from home in BC Canada and plan to move to move to Florida in the future and your videos have really helped me with that decision. I turn to life by the bow everyday as line of happiness for myself and I would like to buy some of your merchandise for myself and my family.
Man, that is a big girl Clay…. and a ton of solid tips. A whole lot of boaters will profit from watching this video a few times… whether big boats or small… most of these tips apply. Really well done… thanks!
Good stuff!! I appreciate the consideration at the ramp. My wife and I have it down to an art. Once It’s my turn it takes less than a minute and a half to get her launched. Yanking it out takes about two minutes. These people that deflate their toys, pack up their crap on the ramp get me fuming. So thank you for the time dedicated to courtesy.
Exactly!! People that pull up with nothing ready to launch/trailer their boat, taking up a slip for 20+ minutes are rude. It’s a common courtesy to our fellow boaters to have your rig ready when you get to the ramp.👍🏻
It's nice seeing an owner taking such good care of their boat. I Captain owner/operator boats for the last 30 years, 80' to 120' range, they could give a shit less. I usually only do relocation's or run the boats when they have a full cruise schedule. I get to the boats at least 3 day's ahead of time and do nothing but cleaning....
As a young adult, thanks for showing what hard work provides and Inspires you to keep growing. Been following for awhile and always look forward to the great videos. Thank you for the great content week in and out!
Good to see that someone else is as " particular" as I am when it comes to the boat. My boat is as clean as my house, maybe cleaner. Some people's boats cost times what they paid for their house. For me , it's a matter of pride and your going to get max dollars out of your rig if you ever decide to sell. Good tips for beginners!
I appreciate the tips. Especially cool because I just got a 37' center console a couple days ago and launched it today for the first time in Big Pine Key. Watching your videos actually inspired the purchase of the boat, various equipment, and the month-long vacation I'm currently on. I even sported an Avail shirt today! You're influencing lives for the better! Thanks for the inspiration and knowledge!
Its been 2 years and still the only video I can find on You tube about this subject for a large boat. Thanks for doing this. I hope you can add to it with a video on trailering long distance with a 40ft boat as well one day.
😄I just saw your video. Thank you for sharing this important information reference what it takes to get the boat ready. All we see is the fishing part and the boat in the ocean having fun. But the preparedness takes time, like you say fueling, buying snacks and loading the boat, buying bait and so on. It is just that is exhausting. However the payoff is great when you see your family or friends in total enjoyment. Thank you so much for the info.
As someone who's never been on a boat before, I just got my first. A 23' pro line cuddy cabin. I plan to fish the Mississippi/Alabama coast and go offshore, mostly alone. So thank you for the solid tips! Now... if anyone in Mississippi Don't mind teaching me how to maneuver this thing, that would be amazing! Lol, I really don't want to be "that guy" at the ramp... lol
This guy is a damn American legend. The courtesy to other boaters at the dock is such a nice thing to do. I wish everyone pulled over on the side of the road and prepped their boat like him. Also, he handles an 8 ton, 40 foot boat like it’s a dam Toyota Corolla in an empty Walmart parking lot. Don’t be fooled everyone, he has WAY more skill than 98% of humans on earth. This guy is not average lol..
Lot of people who have these boats seldom take wind into account, as both a sailor and power boat owner never forget tides and wind-age when docking they can be of great assistance or hindrance. Consider this when launching and retrieving like this fellow did.
Been towing for 40 yrs and learned something here tonight on the hooks. I always put mine the other way. Towed everywhere 27’ formula.. never had a problem but I’m going to change how I do it.. Great video as always Keep them coming.
Gregg just because this video shows the hooks one way does not mean it's the best. Obviously you have proven that. Personally I've placed them both ways and despite towing for decades, never had a problem. Although the trailer in this video is different then the one my Contender is on, mine also has a cable with smaller hook in the event of a runaway trailer when the cable is pulled by vehicle, the trailer brakes are activated.
I just subscribed. You are so right. I have a 24 foot pontoon boat in northern California. It takes me a day to prepare for a camping trip. Being a truck driver helps when driving. I plan on starting a channel on RU-vid, we'll see what happens. Thanks for this tutorial, it'll help a lot of people!
I don't have a boat clay but have been on a few boats in my life time, but I can always appreciate, your knowledge of all things boats and water and fish, sure do wish I could of met you and Stephanie when I was younger, great video, til next time bye 🌴🦜🐬👍🙏❤️😎
We picked up a gorilla cart from Lowe’s for about $100 on sale. Thing is awesome and has lasted us many years. Used to load the boat as well as have taken it fully loaded out to the pier as well. All of the grate openings are awesome for quickly strapping gear down with bungee cords. I haven’t been able to find anything else that works as good as this garden cart does. Love the videos!
Nice job on this video Clay, I appreciate all your instruction on this topic... Recently bought a 23ft Sportsman and am preparing to head down(trailering) to the Keys in February
A great way to judge when it is floating. Just before you start to back in the water, put a couple of feet of slack in the strap. That will accomplish two things, 1) you will see it move just a bit when it is floating, 2) the slack will prevent boat from lifting the trailer and rear of the track, thus preventing you from being the topic of a RU-vid ramp video and a very embarrassing call to your insurance company. Thank you for the video!
After I watched your first video I noticed how long your front guide bunks are. My 30 Intrepid would never load straight on its own the first time. Turns out Rocket trailers is based here in Fort Myers!! I went and got 8 foot front guide bunks and replaced my 4 foot guide bunks. Game changer!!
I'm on my second center console and both did not come with a trailer. Delivered to my marina and rack stored...that said I always thought about a trailer purchase but remember when I did trailer my boat what a pain it was! However a trailer gives you options for traveling to different ports without running far distances. Great rig! Best of luck!
Lots of info here, nice job on keeping it real, it's always a lot of prep to get out. That dock was awesome. Beautiful boat, beautiful home. I'm not a fan of docking alone, you made it look easy. 👍
Another pro tip is when using an unfamiliar boat ramp , bring a deck scrubber with you Incase then ramp is slick.. it will help prevent the tires from sliding all over the place when pulling out of the ramp , plus it will help the next guy out too. I can’t count how many times my tires peeled out making me look like a newbie at the ramp.
What a great training video. Hopefully this gets a lot of hits and a lot of people learn how to properly load and unload a boat and strap it down. Great safety tips, thanks for sharing.
Great tips and well put together video... Might be redundant or obvious, but don't forget 4WD for the boat ramp! Too many guys sliding their trailer AND truck in after they forget to put it in 4WD.
Many channels profess to know “how to” and don’t deliver. You and your channel are extremely detailed and understandable for viewers who have never done the things you are explaining. I also appreciate that you wear a mic so you are clearly heard throughout the video. One question I have, because I don’t know anything about this subject is that you mentioned cruising to the Bahamas. Are you able to do that in your boat from where you live? If you haven’t already, perhaps a video on that and the preparedness needed for a trip like that? Thank You!
Amazing ! In Italy gas price is 6.76 EUR/ gallon (7.29 dollar/gallon) ! It's insane!after watching your video I am no longer afraid to launch my 5 meter boat 🤣
Thank you so much Clay for sharing this detailed information. This is very educational and I learned a lot. Have a pleasant sailing every time you go out there.
Good info. The safety chain hook orientation gives me doubts. Should the hitch come off the the ball, those chains are there to prevent loss of the trailer. The orientation of the hook should be in a position for that eventuality.
Clay, Good video. It really show cases how much planning it takes to have an uneventful day on the boat. I totally agree with the ice maker, such a great convenience. I do wonder sometimes if it may be cheaper to buy ice. Ice machines are expensive and use a lot of water and electricity. But the convenience is worth it. My add to your video is something that is so important, check lists! I have different ones based on what I am going to do that day. A checklist for diving, fishing or just boating. They are printed and in the garage and I can tell you that sometimes as I review them it reminds me to put something else on the boat that I had forgotten.
Great input! Since we use ice so much we make our money back for its energy and water consumption. Something to think about is buy one and keep it turned off until you’re ready to use it.
Wish the gas prices were what they were when you made this video. You have to wait for those long boat trips for a while. Subcribed. Thanks for your awesome videos.
All I got out of this video is 3.75 for a gallon of gas… jk lol great video with lots of info for all boat owners. I want to commend you on your speaking cadence. Very easy to understand and listen to.
Love the video - informative. I remember the fear of the ramp - this dock the ramp falls off at the concrete edge at low tide - dont use this one for a boat of x size - all the stories made it nerve racking. Then you add in a monster like this! Boy was it quiet for unloading. Such a scary time on a busy weekend! DOES A GASOLINE STATION LIMIT you - if you wanted to fill up 500 gallons? Think how many cars that would be!
Thanks for exhibiting common courtesy especially at the boat ramp; that is a lost art for sure. Gonna probably pick us up one of those Dri-Pods, useful and we want to help you guys out. Blessings!
