That was a lovely video Charlie. The thing in the tree is a Birch burl, as for the thin strong sticks what you want are living "green" sticks, less likely to burn and very strong:) Nice choice of music in this video. You need a Chopping board:)

right.....so....I had a go at that crack an egg into the frying pan with one hand as i took inspiration from your skill at doing so and the egg didn't burst in the pan either. I have been told not to be inspired any more by your videos by my good lady as my attempt rendered most of the egg over the cooker and the wall than in the pan. The shell did though so was easy to pick up. Another master piece by your good self and an enjoyable good watch. loved the reference to the Giraffes 😁😁😁😁

Brilliant vid Charlie, I’ve watched them all and this is up with the best of them. Motorcycle, beautiful (slightly crazy) woman, camping, cooking, dancing and stick making 😀, what more could we ask for. The thing on the tree is a burr (or burl), it’s just a knotty outgrowth which happens now and then if a tree (particularly birch) has a viral disease or is stressed, I see them here where I live in The Forest of Dean, a place not too far from you which maybe you should visit some day.

Hi Charlie, I think the growth you identified on the silver birch is known as a Burr. It occurs when something infects the tree & the tree fights back & tries to repair itself, these are much sort after by wood carvers. You often see animals carved from the growth so they appear to be sitting on the tree !

Glad as always to share my near-encyclopaedic knowledge of all things naturalisational:- That lump on the tree thing is in fact a bear egg. They hatch in early spring. The young can be found insulting passers-by on warm afternoons before they move off looking for a melon patch where they’ll spend the summer. No need to thank me.

Happy belated Mother's day. I looked up the birch growth its called " Chaga" it is described as a mushroom/fungus that grows on Birch trees and Native indians swear by its medicinal properties, the modern Medical community is still researching it. Google is awesome. Great video. Thank you.
