12:00 Hmm... I freely admit that I'm basing this on my memory of the rules, but I thought the nectar only gets added to the end of the row if you use it to boost the board (like in grasslands or water), or to activate a bird's power that requires you to discard a food. I'd thought it was specifically excluded form food eaten by birds. *goes to check rules* And page 3 of the Oceania Expansion's rules proves me wrong. It's bird's cost, bird's ability or action upgrades. (Woops, will have to advise Mom next time we play. >_
I think even with a relatively simple automa, still there is a lot to keep up with when playing solo, so it’s easy to accidentally cheat. But when I find out I’ve gotten a rule wrong, usually it makes me want to play again. Wingspan is a great game! Excellent video!
Yay, the return of You can solo that? is so welcome! And the playthrough was excellent! So fun. And yes, that is how all ornithologists speak. Also, Fields of Arle is so flipping amazing solo. Very excited to watch that one.
This is both helpful and entertaining. Want to get my family into Wingspan but they’ve been balking. Playing solo on the dining room table could show them how attractive it is and make it less intimidating. Been wanting to understand how the Automata works for a while. Thanks for putting this together!
Some solo playthroughs would be Oh My Goods! Lonsdale in Revolt, Glass Road (or Caverna, Hallertau, Le Havre, Feast for Odin, Nusford, etc!), 7th Continent, One Deck Dungeon, or Escape Room: Secret of the Scientist
You're right, Nick, there are not that many birds. Take a bird, say a sparrow and add a splotch of red paint and you have a Red Throated Sparrow. Or add some black to a Strike and you have a Black Stripe Strike.
Hmmmmm are we sure it's not just the same bird 850 times? But real talk I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica, and one of the main reasons was the sheer number of different birds and wildlife you have
Nice work Nick. Wingspan is a fun solo, good to see the love still stands. Is it cheating in a solo game or is it just optimisation… (definitely cheating but who cares!) A multi deck game of Legendary would be fun! Get some insane hero combos going. Or go nuts and have a roll & write day - a few quick r&w games back to back vs the comments. Cartographers, Railroad Ink, etc Also as an aside, where has the new play-mat/table cover come from?
For filming purposes we’ll just carry on doing them home for the foreseeable future. In terms of where we’ll go for game days to get away from it?… that is one we’re sad to say we don’t have an answer for
Love this set up and series but please don't include expansions going forward. Not everyone has all, if any, of a games expansion. Teaching the solo variation on the base makes the instructions and playthrough more accessible to a larger audience. I'm not saying completely ignore expansion variations but maybe just touch on them here and there. Thank you!!!
That is a totally valid critique, and for the most part we will mostly stick to base games. These ones I threw is because the 2 expansions don't change all that much, so I figured it was still a good representation of the base game solo. Thank you for the feedback!
