Dude, please tell me you didn't push it. You have been not well! You are supposed to take it easy! Hope you didn't hurt yourself just to do a video! Hugs! And, Stevia is ok for you. If you have to have a sweetener, that would probably be the least "bad" for you.
JOOOOOOOOOEEEEEE!! I don't have IBD but know those who do so have an idea what you're going through: Anything you can give us is great, deeply appreciated, and I wish you all the best as you learn to get a handle on this challenge.
We are all just as stoked! Been thinking a lot about Scout and enjoying every moment with my puppy. cant wait to take him on adventures like you've been teaching me:)
Hi Joe, I'm an orthopedic surgeon. Try everything (brace or cast) to avoid surgery on your daughter. Treatment could take way longer than 6 weeks with a 5 month old. But trust me it is worse for the parents than the baby. In Germany we put on a cast when the hip is not stable and pops out. The younger the baby the shorter you have to treat it. That is why we have mandatory screening ultrasound with 4-5 week old babys. The possibility of Treatment has not really have anything to do with the weight of the baby, but the age! Wish you the best.
I was born with CP back in 1966. Now granted this isn't CP thank God, but orthopaedic has advanced miles since then. Hopefully she comes thru this with no memory and complete recovery.
Medical advice from RU-vid comments should be taken with a grain of salt. For one thing, there's no way to know if a person is what they say they are. No offense, but there are a lot of anonymous folks who say a lot of things for odd reasons. Also I wonder if an orthopedist would know to spell "babies" rather than "babys" :-)
Joe Robinet, Could you do a video series of how you prep for your camping trip, the camping trip, and what you do when you get home again? How do you choose what you choose, why do you choose what you take, what do you do with the gear once you get home? Do you sharpen the axe or knife when you get home? how do you decide on which knife, axe or saw? Bedding? Why choose one sleeping bag over another?
Great idea. We know Joe must have some sort of packing list he goes through as we see a lot of the same items in his videos, but it would be nice to see the differing packing lists for the different types of excursions.
He has done several pre-trip gear videos: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xFz7cXVnefA.html m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ggifig1LyA.html m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r2Dt6zVvtdw.html Coming back from a trip if he’s anything like me he dries out his wet gear and repairs anything damaged. I doubt he sharpens his knife/axe for every trip.
You're question about a 3 bbl system is posted in the Brewery Life(another channel I was just watching) youtube channel by user AngryMan.... am i going crazy, is this a comment glitch??

I really don't miss tv at all. Joe has 11 commercials, 10 seconds or skip after 5....when a normal tv show would have 11 commercials per break, 15 to 30 seconds. I only have tvs to attach to our game systems.
@@funnyanimalshorts643 Just mentioned because I understand that nomads and Rvers are getting their own programming on PBS...All are from the RU-vid community and not informative as Joe. Well other than how too poop in a bucket and over a downed tree trunk.✌Sooory.
I like that Joe does not act like he knows everything or more than others. I love how he stays humble. It gave me confidence that I’m always learning and am doing just fine🙂

I was so sorry to hear of of your daughters condition. I am currently 63 years old and was diagnosed with Perthes disease when i was 3 years old. This problem can be overcome. I was one crutches for 2 years following my diagnosis. After that, I starred in sports all through Junior High , High Scjhool, and college. I even made to the NFl, where I punted for 6 years. Please stay positive
ice to see you back, Joe. I'm sorry to hear about Autumn but My grand niece had the same problem and after her treatments (that seemed like forever) I am happy to say that she is perfect. It also makes me happy to see you taking better care of yourself. Much love from Nova Scotia p.s. Chicken is cooked when it is no longer pink . Stevia is a natural herb that looks a bit like mint but is very sweet. It is used extensively as a sweetener in teas and drinks. Dark chocolate is an excellent antioxident and your body is slightly hypoglycemic that;s why you want sugar. Have a bite of dark chocolate if you want the extra calories won't hurt you. That's all.
@@gutierrezgerdardo4044 only thing some people should watch out for with stevia is if your body can't handle it that well it might give you the runs badly (few family members had this problem and got the same effect as sugar free gummy bears )
Nothing worse than being a parent of a baby that's not feeling 100% but she won't remember any of it in a few years time when she's running around you will wonder what all the worry was for. Good luck with everything.... oh and the video is a real treat....
The fire drill part was so deserving in the end. I kept saying in my heart, "Come on, Joe. One more time. Don't give up, now..". Put a freaking smile on my face when it lighted.
Thanks Joe! I have been watching you for some time now. Have enjoyed every one of them. I am 60 years old and you have inspired me to hit the woods again as I did in my youth. My wife thinks I'm nuts. It's not a matter of beating nature it's a matter of learning it's rules. I will be using a gi shelter half pup tent. With a floor mod. Can't wait. Thanks again.
Your passion is amazing. I have been MARRIED for 17 years but life has consumed me. I hope you never let your passion for the outdoors go. Teach your little ones what you know and try your hardest to steer them to the natural things of nature. You inspire more people than you know brother. I wish you the best man. Oklahoma guy says " Canadian jam knots rock" ;)
Following your passions will make your life/marriage richer. Set aside 2 hours a week that's YOURS, inviolate, to do something that feeds your soul. You deserve it! You need it!👍😊
CANADIANS! Some of the politest people on Earth, as well as the toughest. Welcome back, Joe. Prays to you and your daughter. All will be well. And as always...THANKS FOR SHARING!
So happy to see the email notification that this video was posted 😁 !!! I have been going through Joe withdrawals lol !!! Glad your feeling better Joe 😀👍
My oldest daughter had the same thing. They put her in a brace for a while and it went away. They said she wouldn't have any long-lasting effects. She's in her 20's now and all was well while she grew up. She played soccer and basketball. And is now a nurse that walks all day while working.
I was born with hip dysplasia, I had to wear a brace until my hips finished developing. I feel that it led to many of my physical issues that then just compounded on each other. I have tight hamstrings, which led to turned in knees, possibly leading to my flat feet (though that is genetic too). And of course bad feet and legs make your posture poor and your back hurt. Plus growing like a bean stalk and having dyspraxia didn't help either. I don't mean to scare you, but rather to learn from my experiences. I'd focus on making sure to stretch her hamstring as she grows, and to teach and practice good stretching habits. Also being active, which I'm sure won't be a problem with you as her dad. :) Wishing her, and you, all the best from Texas
If the tent is too tall, you could always dig down into the snow to give yourself more height and room to move around. In Army Arctic Training we were taught that if you dug the floor down, you could then place material (pine boughs) down for insulation without sacrificing room. We would also pile snow around the edges of the tent to prevent any wind coming in. Probably hundreds of things you could do to provide more comfort, but for one night it would suffice for simple survival purposes.
@@vagabondquerier9375 He would have to dig down the snow before putting up the main pole and then make the main pole shorter. Like he said in the video, if the pole is too long you sacrifice room at the bottom of the tent. Another thing to consider is that a person might have to sleep slightly curled depending on their height and the scenario you find yourself in.. Another way is to dig out an area big enough for your feet to extend out of the tent and then create a small igloo of sorts over that space. One thing we did for a really tall guy was to dig out where his feet were to go and then place pin boughs over it, then pack snow over that. He said that he feet never got cold and he was able to sleep fully extended through the night. I think the weather scenario and a person's physical condition dictates need vs want in those circumstances. Is it comfort for a nice excursion or is a survival situation? Hope I explained myself better with this response. You brought up the same point I was thinking of while watching Joe erect his shelter - nice!
I watched every minute of your video. Loved all of it. So glad that you didn't give up on the bow. Also I wish your daughter does great on her surgery and recovery.
I’m so glad I rediscovered your videos. I enjoy “hanging out with you”, so to speak. It’s helping rekindle my love for the outdoors and the hope I’ll be well enough to do some of this on my own.
Joe, I've loved watching your videos for several months now. But, I just watched this one, I have to say it struck a chord. I'm a single father of a 18 y/o daughter, so I know the heart tugs with being a dad. You're a good man and a good father. I will be praying for you, your daughter, and your family. Stay strong, brother! It's tough when our little girls are hurt. Just stay strong and know that there are others out there who are praying for you and your family.
Hi Joe. I'm in the middle of the video, and wanted to say I appreciate you showing us the things that didn't work out like you'd hoped (the fire starting with the bowdrill), and then the big surprise when you got it on the 5th try! What determination, especially when you had the flint steel in your pocket. I am really impressed with your skill, as well as your "Never give up" attitude. Great life skills, as well as bushcraft ones!
Hi Joe. Stevia is a natural sweetener that basically goes straight through you (in a good way). It tastes sweet but doesn't mess up your blood sugar and it doesn't feed the bad bacteria in the gut either (like regular sugar does). It's a sweetener stable in the LCHF/keto diet (which I btw highly recommend if you've got IBS). My source: I have IBS too!
Stevia just don’t taste the same. Personally I think stevia just is gross. Not hating on it cuz my mom uses it, I am just saying I really just can’t stand it
Also cut out dairy/whole grains and for goodness sake not so much vegetables, many of them contain oxalic acid and it prevents you from getting some important minerals from food. "Safe" foods for my gut are rice, potato cooked, all meats, eggs, organs, well cooked peas, fish, berries, some fruits although they usually contain traces of pesticides (hello orange farmers in brazil that died from them) so not really that healthy that is promoted in mainstream. Also stevia has to be processed by liver and that usually doesn't mean it's good, considering there is no any other benefit than sweetening your food.
Hi Joe, Lindsay from Glasgow, Scotland here. Great to see you back and healthy. Sorry to hear about your bairn, but nice to hear there is a positive outcome to this problem. Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of your kith an kin. I'm a granda now and I can attest to the worry one has about ones kids, it never ends Im afraid! Nice to see you back tho' man. All the best.
Hi Lindsay. I love it when Joe does his British accent but can you imagine him trying to figure out what 'Bairn' means and saying it in a Scottish account lol. Wayne (From the U.K 🇬🇧)
Dude, same! Legit saw it pop up on my phone and clicked! I still need to watch the last episode of the ten day journey from last June. Can't wait to see him finish it off. This looks so good!
@@mikobushwacking1982 dude if your saying someone suck ass then that means you do, only a dip shit like you would portray his insecurities onto other people! like go head with your rudimentary ass comment fool!
Joe, you are the man! Crazy adventures, making do when necessary, just out there! 50 years ago I’d have been doing the same thing, but now it’s more fun to watch you do it.
Regarding you daughter, Autumn...You can be sure that you and your wife will take care to make sure that she will have the BEST outcome with this hip problem. I am a new grandparent to a beautiful baby girl, and she's totally healthy. My daughter-in-law, however, has peripartum cardiomyopathy, in short, heart failure due to the pregnancy and delivery. She's slowly recovering, but it will take some time. I hope that, for your daughter, that you'll look back on this in a year as just a moment in time for your family. Your entire family will kick the shit out of this, my man. Love your channel, love your content....even dig the frozen boogers!!! Keep up the great work!!
It's 51 f in Phoenix Az right now with a high of 67 f today. I'm watching this in pajamas and a thick robe and I'm freezing my ass off! Lol. But seriously, glad your back Joe and sorry to hear about your little one. I will say, as a father of 3 grown daughters and two grand children, kids are amazingly resilient. Your baby girl will be just fine and I know this just by watching how tough and resilient her daddy is. God speed to you and your family from blistering cold Phoenix, Az.
I’m a 55 year old Newbee and never Backpacked. Yet. After my finding of Dave Canterbuary and his crew of great people I find in the RU-vid mix. With all the personalities on RU-vid I keep coming back to your Channel. You love camping , you are real, you are a wealth of knowledge and don’t claim to be an expert. I dig you don’t edit out the bobos. I have so many more. lol You share your gear and aren’t trying to sell it all. Thank you for sharing. God Bless
When he was trying to get the fire started with the bow, I was like, “come on joe you got this” and every time it didn’t work I would just get so mad 😂
I just got home from a crappy day at work and this notification was waiting for me at my desk. I immediately shouted like JR from WWE. "BAH GAWD! IT'S HIM!" LOL
Wow, I could not believe 3 fire nests not catching fire with the amount of smoke coming out of them, it was fantastic though when it did eventually combust into flames! Amazing how you kept warm enough without a chimney fire stove in the tent. The polish twin poncho tent worked really well considering the extreme winter conditions. Thanks for posting Joe and best wishes.
You captured me a few months ago. Doing what you do and how much happiness it seems to bring to you... However, your baby girl and her unfortunate issues. Think i recall one video where you spoke of her one eye and now her hip. But through it all you speak of what a happy baby she is... and the Love that resonates from you speaking of this angel just brings me to my knees. I am a mom of 3. Much older now. 25, 19 and 13 and then my grand daughter who is 18 months... I can only imagine what you and your wife have gone through... Sending you all so much love and respect... Take it from me... Raising your babies is NEVER easy... But it is very rewarding, through the good, bad and indifferent. This too shall pass and she will thrive... If she is anything like her Daddy. She is STRONG... Hope one day i get to see them both with you in your finest elements. Bless you all...
Miss your beer revues LOL , i live in France but am from London , your Mary Poppins accent cracks me up every time , 2 years in and still love your videos ..
Joe has some really serious health issues regarding gut health and he is insane to even touch alcohol right now. I'm going through the exact same thing because of cancer. Much as I love to drink NO alch. for me right now and it's HUGE how important it is to healing and winning. He HAS to do that for his daughter!! :) Cheers
Your determination and how natural you are. Not trying to give it large with ego, is why I watch. Twisted fire starter 🔥 love your camping adventures 🤗
Prayers for Autumn. No worries. She will slingshot forward and catch up for any thing that might delay anything. We will be here when you can be here. It's going to be ok. 💪🙏♥️🐝
Welcome back Joe...hope you took adequate time for a full recovery...we all want you out there, but more so, we want you healthy! Just a quick comment: the issues you had getting fire with the bow drill were, in my opinion, the most instructive content of the video. First, if YOU are making mistakes, then we will view our own as an expected challenge rather than incompetence. Second, seeing you make, and correct errors and move on, increases the likelihood that we are now forewarned and less apt to make those mistakes. You are a better teacher than you give yourself credit for. I wonder...is it possible that moisture in your breath was a causal factor?👍👍👍👍
Steven Lutz- I agree with you. His trials, and victories, really do help us be better prepared to react to adversities as well. I also had the same thought as you about the humid breath making a challenging situation more difficult. Waving the tinder around may have been a better option given the conditions. -Cheers mate
I've watched a few of Joe video's mainly when I'm cooking or fixing something. This one was def worth watching especially how he just took one last attempt to make fire. Def gave a whoo! Woo! When it finally lit. Totally AWESOME. Sorry to hear that his daughter Autum was not well when this was filmed but hope that doctor's were able to help make her better.
Really enjoy watching your videos - Thank you for sharing. This one especially - showing that fires/and whatever bushcrafts are not always executed successfully first go everytime. Love the persistence and truth in this video. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Inspiring.
Hey Joe, it's sad about your BB Girl. From the time they born, you will always be concerned about their health and well being. I have 3 grown children, and still worry! That's just part of being a good parent. Life is very precious. I wish you all the best for you, and your family. I will send Autumn prayers. You sure worked hard for that fire, and chicken! Great video, thanks for taking me along. I will keep watching. GBU.,SM.,NZ, ✌❤😁🤗
Great to see you out there again and looking good! The fire melts down through the snow and you’re just like, okay, I’ll dig out a bigger hole and sit down with it! 😄. Wishing your little girl all the best. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in life it’s that just when you think it’s all going well you’re hit with a new challenge, but then it’s up to you how you deal with it. I know you and your wife will make sure your little girl always feels loved and looked after. ATB, Mark.
We're so glad to have you back Joe! Glad you took the time you needed and have some new, healthy food in your pack! I dont get snow like you here in ohio, but for the first time in my life I've been down to winter camp - coldest night for me was 9*F. Thanks for showing us that you can get out there no matter what!
Joe, I love watching your longform stuff. You show everything, mistakes, successes, difficulties and victories. Too many other channels edit out the "boring" stuff and make it all look so easy, a rock could do it. But your stuff really shows what it takes and that you can do it, even if it takes multiple tries and working hard. Thanks.
Little Joe this has been a fun video to watch. Again you have not only entertained but you have taught people about the things you are doing and how to do them. Awesome job
Was that a Polish reference on Joe's channel ?!?! :O Pałatka z polskiego demobilu ! I wonder which size this is. I have managed to get size = 2, but the prices for this sky-rocketed in the last few years (in comparison to the 90'ies when it costed about 30 polish zloty (~7-8 bucks) ) and now it's difficult to get the size = 3 for a reasonable price.
I'm only 7 years old but big fan and going out to do it too! Glad you kept going on your fire, in martial arts we call it indomitable spirit! I cheered when you did it!
Aha! Maybe in an older time, maybe in an older language?! Maybe there is a story or meaning behind it...maybe. Thanks though, we are just figuring this all out and you've tweaked and idea!!!!
Mr. Robinet, it's nice to see you up and about doing what you love. I knew that you wouldn't be down for long, but of course this wouldn't keep you down you're a Windsorite and from the West End. Keep this up but, try in the future to take better care of yourself. My wife and I are moving to Brockville, Ontario this summer, it's nice to know how much snow we will receive when we move there. Take care of yourself. Much love and respect from the Bromley family.
Great video as always Joe, and it is great to see you out and getting back to the more instructional videos. However I do disagree with your opinion of not having some dry tinder in your kit, I'm not saying carry a full bird's nest bundle of tinder (I have a 5cmx5cm piece of silver birch bark in my kit for use on those times when the only tinder available is marginal) After all Otzi the ice man was found with amidu in his fire lighting equipment. Great to hear Scout is doing well, and it was truly impressive that you gave that bow drill that final chance, most of us have been there and mustering up the energy to give it one more atempt is some of the hardest things to do. Keep it up Joe and as always looking forward to your next adventure
I rode a little dirt bike for the first time in my life two years ago. Wrecked bigger then ish but i loved it and was immediately hooked. Didn't know this was a thing. Thanks for my new rabbit hole on RU-vid Joe lol. Someone told me respect the power a bike has, because it can kill you. Please be safe. Be thoughtful. Take your time. I get the need for that adreniline rush especially after dealing with grief depression and stress as you have. Please think clearly be mindful, and know you're not alone. So excited for your new journey. Can't wait to see how it goes. Just go slow bud, no it's not Bushcraft lol, but it's stil awesome!! Good that you realize as a new rider that it's more then enough.
Hey Joe ... glad to see you back. I know you're not exactly ultralight or anything, but if you need to ingest more plant matter on your adventures two of my lightweight favourites are: Dehydrated fruit salad ... whatever dried fruit I have on hand (home dried, apples, berries, peaches etc) and I cold soak it in a container overnight on the trail. In the morning I have rehydrated fruit with juice for a nice, bright breakfast. Dehydrated hummus ... store bought or homemade. I smear it on trays in the dehydrator, then grind it up to a powder in the food processor. I rehydrate it on the trail with cold water. It comes back to perfect consistency. Flatbread, hummus and fruit have become my favourite breakfast.
Any recommendations for a cheap dehydrator? I have a legume and trea nut allergy so packing trail snacks can be a bit of a pain. Dehydrated fruits sound like a great way to go tho!
Great video Joe and good to see you back. Glad too that you are feeling better and eating healthy (plenty of greens and water and herbal teas) . Autumn will be fine with the right care and she has plenty of that in your family ❤️ It’s not nice to see a baby go through it though but on the good side she won’t remember it. Take care of you and yours and Scout xxx
I love her name Autumn that is lovely. Remember Surgeons and Doctors will do the very best for your baby girl. Please give your wife a Huge hug when you get home. Medical issues with children hits mom's real hard. Sending lots of betterness your little Autumn's way, wishing her a speedy recovery and you and your family all the very best. Your perseverance with the fire was on point.
Ah man, Sorry to hear about Autumn. Sounds like she is very healthy and will come out of this. I hope the brace works as it is the easiest way to help her. My son had to have surgery on his and was not a happy camper. It helps but did not fully repair it.
I’m so glad you didn’t give up with the fire situation, it’s frustrating I know but I actually shouted out loud “Yaessss we have fire”!! 🔥 wife was like what the fu*k are you watching, I replied you’ll never understand... shhh my dear go back to sleep.
Those lavvu's are awesome bits of kit I've had mine ages and always take it hot tenting and just use a arm hole as a flue hole with a flue sleeve to protect the tent, just using one poncho with a fire in front of the tent is lovely in spring/fall
