I find it hilarious that he basically mentioned the crowd reaction being manipulated by the “fake” noise yet, WWE themselves did the same thing for Cena during his run. “Wherever Cena goes, he gets a reaction good or bad.” Same situation just different ways of doing it.

I actually liked the promo right until the end where Cena all but undermined an eventual Theory win saying it won't mean anything because Theory won't be able to carry the torch. That's what always hated about Cena, the fact he can't elevate anybody and conceding a defeat, because he always has to come up on top either on the ring or verbally. He should have said that to prove that he truly belongs Theory needs to beat him fair and square, so he would have upped the stakes for their WM match. Instead what Cena did is sabotaging another future star like he always did for 20 years

Not really. Roman Reigns improved vastly on the mic after Cena buried him in that one promo. This is Cena's way of bringing out the best in people. Perhaps this promo will light a fire under Theory and he'll improve on the mic as well.

@@Neethan3247They’re about the same, honestly. But I’ll give Hunter a little bit of credit-the few times he put someone over, he put them ALL THE WAY over. Batista, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, Seth Rollins. He went out of his way to make sure to make those guys properly. He passed the torch a bunch of times. Cena can’t really say that. He rarely ever lost clean, and even when he did, he would embarrass his opponent beforehand on the mic. It’s like his ego would not allow him to let someone just get the better of him for the sake of business.

This is definitely just Stage 1 of this build. I can see Theory cutting an emotional promo before WrestleMania about how he wants to make a name for himself and the best way to do it would be to beat his childhood hero at the biggest show of the year. It’s not going to be as intense of a heel vs childhood hero feud as CM Punk/MJF but I can see them tapping into the same emotions.

The funny thing is they did pipe in fake noise during Cena's era. There were so many examples where they'd show big PPV matches where Cena got booed out of the building, yet the replays or the match highlights always added cheers for him. So is he really the one to talk. Don't get me started on Roman or how they used to lower the mics during his WM entrances to try to hide the boos for so many years. WWE has been doing this forever. Theory is hardly an exception.

I’m glad you brought up the fact that Cena out performed The Rock back during their feud. As a loyal Attitude Era fan, I didn’t want to believe it back then. The problem was that The Rock never evolved. He went with what worked back then. And that was an issue because wrestling can't go backwards. What worked then doesn't really work now. Cena's material was more modern and so when you look back at it in hindsight you can tell Rock lost a lot of steps on the mic and Cena knew that and was able to pounce on it. Another example of Rock being extremely outdated was the Punk feud. Punk had all these legitimate gripes and burns on Rock. And all Rock had in response was "Cookie Puss"

That confuses the guy you’re working with and it puts them in an awkward position of having to stay on script to salvage the promo, or else they get in trouble. Cena can’t get in trouble; Theory can. When you use those words, his character should be a humble but tough guy, someone who doesn’t see himself above anyone else but will fight anyone at anytime. Instead, he comes across as “Hollywood” he smirks all the time and usually comes across as arrogant, sanctimonious, condescending, and imperious. He gives off heavy douchebag energy. Cena does the opposite. He acts like people will just pay to watch him,so it doesn’t matter if his opponent looks good or bad, it’s not his concern, when in fact, it should be because he should be selling the fans a PPV fight, not his own hype. Paul Heyman on some occasions will even spend the entire promo big talking his client's opponent with lines like "you've done this... you've been there, you've accomplished that... but you haven't beaten him." All that does is big up the match and even get you excited for a match you didn't care about before. You're damn right it hurt the Rock.... yeah you... you've beaten this guy, that guy, you had the crowd roaring, I've seen you climb in your career for years... but you can't beat the Rock." You’re one of the premier young talents in the business today, you’re a contender, you’re the future of this sport…but you ain’t gonna beat Slick Ric for this title, WOO!” 😆 He HAD to do that because he was the biggest star in a smaller promotion. If he made his opponents look good, he could talk people into the building and pay to see them. Cena lost sight of that. He acts like people will pay just to see HIM, so it doesn’t matter if his opponent looks good or not. That’s a very selfish and shortsighted way to do business.

He made Austin Theory look like a Clown and didn't give him a sliver of Possible Crediblity. with Roman,Roman had at least been to the dance Once and Cena said " they gave you the ball but you haven't stepped up" with Theory John just pretty much called him a child and Dismissed him. Unless you're Stone Cold Steve Austin no babyface should be THAT rude

It’s revisionist history my friend, I was in middle school to high school during his peak & I hated the characters’ guts ever since. So whenever I see fans say “He’s the goat, he’s the best, we miss you” it’s complete BS, cause during those times he was resented by the fans. Due to his booking by the old turd himself: Vinnie Mac.

Cena wasn't wrong tho. Theory has been booked like a geek for the past couple of years. -Losing to Pat McAfee at Mania, who would then go on to lose 70 plus year old Vince McMahon -Losing the US Title multiple times and not establishing a solid run like Gunther -The MITB fiasco where he failed the cash in -And not really having any dominant wins or solid fueds Beating Cena will mean nothing in the long term because Theory isn't pushed as a top guy. Until he gets a win streak going after Mania, this match may as well be a bathroom break.

To add to what solo was saying about roman having more mania main events than cena... well During CENA's run as the top guy, there were more Main even level superstars. You had taker still, there, Edge, Orton, Brock, Batista, HHH was still wrestling regulatly, Benoit, bbokert, gldberg, jbl, the miz, Eddie, bryan, Punk, sheamus, rvd, ambrose, del rio, big show, jericho, bray wyatt, kane, rey mysterio, hbk and mark henry . Who do you really have now, Cody is gonna be made at mania, seth, Roman, Brock, Lashley (although he didn't get the years of protection to not get exposed on the mic like brock lesnar did). I could include sheamus and mcintyre but they've dropped down to feud for the midcard title. Rey's retiring, edge is part time, wyatt is stuck is lost in his own universe, and Miz is just Miz. Since there are less main event level talent it makes sense roman has had more mania main events. Cody will be the guy that make's the other wreestles shine. As a baby face he can be more vulnerable instead of the monster heel roman is. He may win the match but he'll make others look more credible in the loss.

I'm quite sure he's the reason WWE started piping in fake crowd cheers. From day one I, and I'm quite sure many other, have never liked John Cena as a wrestler. Not that I care for Austin Theory that much but it would make zero sense for John Cena to win this match.

Other guys have also main evented once at that time like batista and edge who normally remembers ah styles and Kevin owens have main evented a mania but they don't feel like bigger stars at least like three notches down roman reigns where as in previous generations it was much closer

John was actually making fun of himself when he was dissing Theory. 😂 The fact that WWE has to pipe in fake crowd noise because nobody cares about Theory, was actually the same thing they did to Cena because half of the audience members couldn't stand him at the time. Oh and the fact that Theory has the potential to be a star, but nobody cares ? Let's not forget that Cena almost got fired when he first showed up in 2002, with that boring Ruthless Aggression character before that wannabe Vanilla Ice street rapper gimmick saved his career.

When are they going to put the title on Cena? He’s 45 now for crying out loud. because it’d just be flat out silly for him to retire a 16x world champion, even if it’s just a token one day reign, Cena needs to win #17. And Flair should be there to hand John the belt…but Cena spits in Flair’s face then gives him an AA and then proceeds to celebrate as the crowd goes crazy.

Need? 😆 Nah. We don’t need to see that shit. It wouldn’t make any sense to give him the title now. When Roman loses, he should lose to the guy who can be the next big babyface of the future. Cena is not the future, he’s the past. It would make even less sense for him to beat Cody or whoever the top guy is who beats Roman. Cena had his chance at 17, he lost. Thanks for coming, John, back to Hollywood you go.

Why bring cena back if he’s just gonna bury people. People still talk about when he buried reigns. And yes reigns was boring then but it’s bc he was given a boring script with a boring character. Cena himself was the same lifeless boring character that wwe had to edit in cheers bc no one liked his character and he had go away heat during the super cena era. & no that promo did not help roman. Roman got over years later when he was given the go ahead to be more of himself and got to go heal being more charismatic and allowing his own personality to shine through. Theory doesn’t have that luxury he’s still forced to read the scripts given to Im unlike a cena or reigns and cena knows this and unfairly used that against them knowing he won’t get punished but theory would if he tried. This is just overall an asshole thing to do and it really makes you wonder why cena was ever Portrayed as a babyface when he’s just such an a hole
