Ole Gunnar Solskjær has said some Manchester United players did not want to be captain for certain matches while he was the manager. Solskjær, who was in charge from December 2018 to November 2021, described it as 'petty' and displaying 'a lack of ambition' in critical comments about generation Z. 'No one said ‘no’ to being the club captain, it was just for certain games,' Solskjær told the Stick to Football podcast. 'Yes, but they didn’t want to say it themselves, they had other people come up to me and say it. It was disappointing. It’s a different generation, it’s Gen Z. It’s petty and shows a lack of ambition.'

At 2:31 minutes: Well said, Ole. Fred would reign in the Manchester United midfield in present times. Sometimes, Scott is sizzling the net, saving their system and squad.

Not well said. He let standards slip by accepting mediocrity like Fred & McTominay in midfield.

I know what Ole means, he's on about his work rate and stamina, abit like Park-Ji Sung. Problem with this was that the players around him who clearly had better quality than Fred didn't have the consistency to perform to their top levels, McTominay, Fellaini & Herrera are not going to win you leagues, with the exception of Pogba (which needs a discussion on its own) where's Park had Carrick, Giggs, Scholes, Nani, Rooney etc around him who would work hard and also produce the goods in the final 1/3 (Goals, Assists etc).

Manchester united is no longer one of the biggest club in the world. Forgot rejecting being captain, players r now refusing to join the club on transfer markets 😂😂😂😂

To Tagg. Well said. Man United supporters still want to bask in their historical sunlight, clutching at shady straws, reminiscing, and not facing modern-day reality. No club can always win. There needs to be some shoring up to reset a sure foundation.

For "certain games" is really weird. They should never be captain then. They aren't up to it and should know better to accept it otherwise. Maybe Ole was also offering it to the wrong guys too...
