14-05-2022 First it didn't work, it says that the volume is still being used. What you have to do is go into safe boot, open cmd, and then do the same way chkdsk /f x: which x is the disk you want to check. It still works in 2022. The corrupted file got deleted and there are no files that needs to be repair on my disk. Thankyou so much 👍

What happens if I have other folders in the same drive that are fine? Will this possibly do anything to them? Because I have a folder that needs this fix in my external hard drive but I also have there all of my work ect.
It kind of worked but when I now go to click on Users folder [it is an external hard drive from old computer] to access files it is slightly blanked out and now says "_IsUser.dll". What should I do? P.S. Everything worked fine prior to me forgetting to eject USB mass storage device.
@@CommTricks Hi, only the Pictures folder is accessible. "_IsUser.dll", "_Setup1.dll" and "Autorun" are all partly blanked out and won't run. I can partly open with Notepad which gives the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode" along with a lot of computer script. Any help would be much appreciated.
Is it any software, usually autorun is of no use if you know how to access files manually. Is it affected by virus? If data is important, just get it checked by HDD recovery specialist.

CommTricks I managed to take off write protection already, but it's still not working, it's a new hard drive I'm trying to fix , my friend got a virus soon after buying the laptop for $800
Dear if it is encrypted by some ransomware, then Chkdsk is not the thing that you are looking for to get data ready. If possible, can u send snapshot of error. or whatever that looks unusual in your drive. May b i can suggest some solution.
@@saufiyanaamir7083 If you have windows 7 or 8, try there. or try by booting PC in DOS mode and then start process again, but be careful if process is going on and you unplug drive it may cause data loss. Good Luck
For me also it is running more than 12 hours but completed 50 % with segment unreadable msg don't know what will happen??? What happened to your disk???

@@CommTricks No.... couldn't watch the video due to music... you just watch this using headsets and ask yourself... I still don't understand why most of youtubers mix the background music unnecessarily when there is no need of music. They try to make video more attractive but actually they spoil their videos themselves by mixing stupid background music. i think Its common sense, obviously viewers are not watching their video to listen music.... so please note mixing of any kind of background music in any video is very bad manners... its makes irritation.....
