How to solve this exponential equation 8^x=4? A usual strategy is to write both sides with a common base, and then make the exponents equal to each other. This question is from Instagram: www.instagram....

How do I find x: 2^(x-5)=3^(x+1) Answer here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vitK9oR8nkc.html

Approximately it is x ≈ -11.25706

This is why it's important to memorize this as part of the exponent rules. You should know that x^1/2 is a different way of writing "square root", which would immediately let you know it's wrong and eliminates a choice.
@Hydratz
@Hydratz 6 месяцев назад
I forgot about the math but I thought of it as 2*2*2 is 8 and 2*2 is 4 so basically 8 to the "2/3" (because you used 2 of the 3 2's) is 4

@Trumpetis1
@Trumpetis1 6 месяцев назад
So in the form x^(y/z), if the z root of x is a whole number, then the y power of it is the solution. That is the mathematical way of explaining your method. Since the cube root of 8 is 2 (whole number) just square that and its 4. This is the equation bprp uses in the video. You basically simplified it to an easier to understand form.

You want to be careful raising to the power before doing the root - -8^(2/3) is -8

Yes, I immediately thought of log a^n = n log a too. But I guess that doesn't give you a nice easy to read off result. This would leave you with x = log_8(4).

27^x = 81 then 3^3x = 3^4 well now we can equate powers which means 3x=4 then x= 4/3 we can check it by putting 4/3 in the place of x. 27^4/3 = (cube root 27)^4 = 3^4 = 81

People wanting to make the solution more lengthy 😂🤣 Since taking a logarithm of any base on both sides isn't taking a logarithm of a negative value nor a 0 it is okay to think of logarithm on both sides. Then log (2^3) dividing into log (2^2) is 2/3 in any log base to separate from x in xlog(2^3)=log(2^2)

"many students would say x=1/2" ? How? 8^1/2 is the same as sqrt(8) and 4 is sqrt(16)... Sqrt (8) is ca. 2,8

yes, you find the prime factors of the number, first do 8/2= 4 then do 4/2=2 then do 2/2=1, you used 3 2's, so you do 2³=8
