I learned the hard way to ALWAYS use a complete water conditioner, NOT dechlor only. My city water changed how they processed the tap water with zero notice. So next water change after that happened I watched my favorite breeder Guppy male die right in front of my eyes and the rest of the tank nearly die because dechlor-only released the ammonia in the new Chloramine with how the tap water was now being processed. I lost about half the Guppies in the tank within the first few days until I could figure out what happened and switched to a complete water conditioner that eliminated Chlorine, Chloramine, and Ammonia, not just Chlorine. So now I will only ever use a complete water conditioner always for every tap water. One other thing to consider for breeding Guppies is to offer some fry cover lower down in the tank. I have a better survival rate with adding in some rock piles on the bottom of the tanks, instead of only relying on cover at the top with floating plants.

Thanks for this advice, sorry about your water..... I know that happens to a lot of people especially in the spring time when the wwt places flush their systems or make changes.
@ReneesZooTube
@ReneesZooTube Год назад
@AQUAPROS Yeah, I'm in Los Angeles now, so I also do NOT do water changes within 24-48 hours of when we get rain here either. Here they often flush the systems when we get rain and add extra chemicals. So I don't risk water changes with the rain here.

Looking forward to the progress with this. A rock pile in one of the corners would be helpful, med-small crushed lava rock that holds lots of beneficial bacteria for teeny fry to munch on, with some varying size med-small river rocks mixed in. Tiny fry love being able to dart from plant cover to rock pile cover. I noticed when I was breeding endlers the fry seemed to love hanging out in the rock pile more than anywhere else. They'd venture into the plant cover briefly but dart right back to the rock pile. Just a suggestion, not an absolute necessity if you want a totally bare bottom. 👍❤️👍

My breeder tank has a matten filter divider and when mamas ready to pop I put the male in the other side. When she drops she goes back to the male all in the same water. HOB intake on parent side and return flow on fry side.👍👍👍

Mike, I’ve setup a 2 gallon breeding tank, placed 2 female guppies and 1 male guppy. How long should I keep them in the same tank do they can do their, business?

My favorite fish . 🐟 I had a long 55 gallon and a 75 gallon tank and a few smaller ones. I was having a lot of babies with guppies, mollies, and pilates. Well Hurricane Ida hit us and we didn't have electricity for weeks all my tanks crashed. So we was able to keep the 55 gallon going with only a few survivors. Well it almost busted three weeks ago. I didn't know what to do we put them up in the 75 gallon tank and things are not working out. Before I noticed the week and the 55 gallon my fish started dying for whatever reason. Now in the 75 gallon I have no guppies. I don't have any female pilates. I do have a couple of mollies but I have a Molly that has some kind of guppy in her gene . The water's just not clearing up. I can't get the pH up. There's no chlorine or ammonia at this moment but the nitrates or nutritates not sure how to spell it. My husband knows about all that they're out the roof. I don't know how to lower them. Everything was going so good before the hurricane. I deal with a lot of anxiety and fish. Calm me down. I love fish. Hopefully we can find the longer tank soon.

I can absolutely relate to having a hurricane reek havoc on the aquariums when the power is out for days and even weeks. My pool suffered as well. I’m considering getting a generac whole house generator. I live back in my hometown of Key West now. We’ve had a rough few years. Prior to moving back “home” I was in Pensacola when Ivan hit. What a mess!!! No power No water for a few weeks. I’ve been telling myself every year to get a generac. One of these days I will. For the time being I rely on a small generator when there’s issues with electricity. I can power a fair amount of things. And can at least give my aquarium a half day on. At least that will give them a better chance of survival. Geesh. I get long winded. All that just to say I can empathize having gone through hurricanes.
@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058
I use to raise guppies & with my hard water breeding was very prolific they popped fry out like crazy so I had to get rid of them cause with what space I have I didn't have enough space for more aquariums.

With the fry you currently have, why not have 3 fry per tank, rather than 4/4/1? At least with 3 each tank they're evenly distributed.

Hi Mike, Love your channel and the knowledge you share with us. Thank you so much. 👏👏👏👏 Today's it's my way of giving back to you by sharing my experiences and knowledge. Now I'm not an expert but maybe you or channel subscriber can learn. Firstly if your female is sexually mature and mated with male she can have consecutive broods without mating again for approx 4 to 6 months. The use of the male in your setup isn't needed becz she's pregnant and stores his sperm internally in her own sperm bank. Keep her alone. Secondly I'll use pond net basket that Master breeder Dean uses in 10 gallons and keep the female in it . I'll add plants like you did outside the surrounding tank area and keep one snail to clean up any uneaten foods etc. This method youll get many fry without headaches or worries of fry eating by parents. Hope this helps. Goodluck.
