I just realized im very late to the party here but something you didn’t mention is that the transmission controller needs to be reset and then driven a couple hundred miles to properly affect the fix. Disconnecting the battery will reset the transmission controller and driving it 200 miles gives the transmission time to “learn” how to shift correctly and remain stable at those junctions between up and down shifts, and overdrive torque converter lock.

My 2019 8 speed developed the "Shutter" at 59870 miles. I attempted to get GM to perform the Flush under warranty and took it in. Service told me it was much worse and they completely rebuild the Transmission from valve body, clutch packs to torque converter. Work and part delays took 4 months, so I racked up 7500 miles on their loaners. I was given a 24 month 24K miles warranty on the work. I'm about 5K miles in, other than the notable GM hard 1st shift (knock wood), so far so good.

I had the same problem with my 2018 Colorado. It would only start shuttering when the truck warmed up. Took it back to the dealership to have it looked at. They said they didn’t feel a shutter. So started driving down the road and it happened again so I turned around and went to get some one to come with me. Started shuttering again so I asked what that was and he said that was the torque converter. The truck was still under warranty so the dealership took care of that. I’ve had this truck for 8 months and so far so good.

Today I test drove a 2017 Colorado 4x4 6cylinder with 126k miles it had the studder little vibration at highway speeds feel it in the seat. Before I went to the dealer, I was aware of the 8speed transmission problem. Sad it rode drove like a car better than the 08 impala ss I will trade in. Probably needs a flush. So, I test drove a 2020 extended cab same motor and drivetrain with 38k miles. I've read after 2019 is the gen 2 8 speed with less reported problems. The 2020 shifted smoother no studder or vibrations very nice truck. Got a 3 day hold on it seriously thinking about buying that truck. Still looking up similar vehicles to try and find the best deal. Gosh I don't remember trucks being this expensive. Spread it out over the longest note and pay it off earlier. I'm going to do more research on these 8 speeds transmissions to make an educated decision. Thanks for the video its people like you and forums that are helping me decide what type of truck to buy.

My 2018 Silverado with the 5.3L V8 and the 8-speed transmission has been shuddering ever since I bought it used earlier this year. I called my mechanic and he has worked on several of these torque converter issues with GM transmissions. He says the best, and only way to fix it permanently is to have the torque converter replaced and the transmission flushed, then add fresh transmission fluid. I am having this done right now. I'm so glad I bought the extended warranty when I bought the truck!

2018 Colorado 95Kmiles, had the shudder shortly after purchasing this past Nov. Ill be taking it to the dealer here soon I hope. One thing I have noticed myself is that if I drive in Tow/Haul mode, the shudder is quite rare. I also have noticed that if I "feather" the gas pedal it can trigger the shudder more often. Other sites I have read that a new tune on the computer can help as well, but I personally do not know if this is true or not. I am hopeful the flush will work. Thank you for the vid!

Just bought a 2018 Colorado Z71 with 45k miles. Sure enough during the 45 minute drive home from the dealership on the high way going 50-80 mph, I noticed the shudder, it was light at first and gradually got more aggressive. Terrible feeling after just dropping $6k down on it. It came with a 6 month warranty so I'll be taking it to get the flush done

Good call! If it continues after that in the slightest, my suggestion would be to see if they'll replace the torque converter and replace GM spec transmission fluid with the mobil 1 fluid.

According to their technicial service bulletin TSB # 18-NA-355, flushing and replacing with Mobil 1 is their standard fix for the issue now. You shouldn’t have to ask specifically for them to use Mobil 1 but you should for sure at least ask which fluid they will use just for peace of mind.

Good call. I will be taking mine to get it flushed. Now, My truck is a colorado 2018 Z92 with ALC package. it only has 40,000 miles. But when I go from 30 to 45 ish is when it star shuddering. I release the gas pedal and then goes back to normal. If I pass 70 miles it doesn't do it. weird, but that is what it does. Also, since I bought the truck brand new, I am the first owner, the warning signal for the 4x4 comes on for a few seconds and goes away...it does it intermittent. The service office always telling me the truck its ok, but they dont have a mechanic who can work on models with ALC.

I have a 2018 Colorado 2wd with 108k miles on it. I've been lucky to never have the transmission shudder throughout its life. I believe I helped combat this though by doing transmissions flushes at the dealer every 30k miles throughout its life so far. Only part I have ever had go bad so far on the truck is the thermostat/temp sensor. I would definitely recommend having the dealer do the flush because of the system being able to pump all the old fluid out.

I have a 2018 camaro that had this issue. i took it to Chevy, and they did 3 full flushes, and it's been running smooth ever since then. Based on the research i did, apparently, the OEM transmission fluid Chevy used out of the factory was not formulated properly and was pulling moisture out of the air. This explained why doing a full flush using their machine that can pull everything out fully works so well.

there is a data PID in the transmission control module, look for torque converter clutch slip, or TCC slip, if you see it regularly jumping to ~50, replace the fluid, if you see it going to ~100 or more, its most likely the torque converter was damaged or worse. GM's service procedure for dealing with this is to exchange ~20 quarts of fluid.

2019 ,Colorado 3.6 4x4. I have the shudder issue. Gm flushed it twice and the shudder stayed. I doubt they followed the gm service bulletin though. It says get the transmission fluid temperature to 145 before draining. The transmission temperature Guage has never gone over 130 since iv owned it. Pulling trailers, I traffic in the summer etc. I think that's a lot of the problem, the fluid never gets hot enough to evaporate the moisture out. My truck has the tow package and transmission cooler. I only has 43000 miles now but during covid an accident damaged the bed side. Due to the parts shortage it was totalled by the insurance company. We found a salvage bed the exact color (white,) and swapped the bed. Even gm service can't see where it was wrecked. But the Vin voids gm warranty. I have a scan tool so I did a scan and it shows multiple misfires. No MIL light though. So iv ordered new coil packs and spark plugs. We have a 2018 terrain with an 8 speed front wheel drive transaxle. It also had a shudder. Ir also has misfire codes and no MIL. I replaced the could packs and plugs in it they fixed the misfire and shudder issue. So I'm going to do the same with rhe Colorado. If the shudder is not fixed I'll take it to a different dealership for another flush. Also I dud add a bottle of Shudder Fix and it made no difference

I bought a new Colorado in 2017 and within a few weeks I noticed the shutter and it was terrible. I took it back to the dealer and they hadn't heard of this issue yet, so after a little research they installed a new torque converter and for a couple weeks it seemed okay but the shutter returned just as bad as before. About that time GM finally acknowledged it was a widespread problem and started recommending the trans flush. That helped mine quite a bit but its never been perfect. The last year or so its been getting worse but not to the extent of the original shutter. To be honest I hate this transmission. I think the 2016 model had a 6 speed that rarely had any problems. mine has had a very different issue. every morning when I'm driving it out of the driveway, at the first gearshift it seems to have a delay shifting. I have to keep the throttle at the same level and slowly ease off in order for it to complete the shift (in some cases entirely let off the gas) but after that it runs perfectly fine. that being said most of my morning commute is all downhill so there isn't much load on my transmission after that first shift. maybe its to do with the torque converter having enough fluid/pressure in it in order to make the first shift. I haven't had the shudder you mention at all and I just hit 120,000. now that I'm finding out about this it makes me feel like these transmissions were meant to be disposable :/

Thanks for posting @jesseludwig2450. You could let it warm up to it's normal operating temperature before making the morning drive. That might help with the first shift. Disposable? Probably intentional, yes. I call it planned obsolescence.

High Anna, great questions! Thanks for posting them here. There are several owner posts telling of their experience with this problem. Read each one for more information and context. My own thoughts are that the transmissions torque converters wear out prematurely. You are left with repairing or replacing to the same flawed design from the manufacturer. It is an annoying problem. Many ignore it and drive on. Eventually, the transmission will stop shifting properly. If a vendor like Jasper releases a reman option that is built better than the OEM, then you will have a path forward to repair and keep the truck you love reliably on the road. This is your best option when available. Hope this helps!

Hi @bilbojenkins5923, thanks for the question. Our opinion is that this 8-Speed transmission is the product of flawed engineering. It can be nursed along, but success seems to be an exception. If or when a company like Jasper releases a better engineered replacement, then you will have a good option around this problem. Till then, do the transmission flush and replace with a better fluid like Mobil1. If you don't want to endure this problem, then see if you can return the truck. Also, read the comments here. There are plenty of good testimonials to sift through. Hope this is helpful.

@@hopfammedia this is heart breaking to hear. i literally just bought the truck less than a week ago, 2022 midnight black z71 30k miles on it and it didnt happen when i test drove it but within the next day or two i definitely noticed it. ive never owned anything newer than a 2005. always liked having my vehicles paid in full. finally buy a new truck and this shit happens. very disheartening. i love the truck and really want to keep it, but you think that over time it will keep getting worse?and best to part ways with it? i also looked on the manual on how to check/ change the trans fluid and it literally says "dont check or change it yourself take it to a certified dealer". have you heard of anyone keeping theirs and keeping up with fluid changes etc that it lasts? cause it shifts smoothly other than 1-2 first start of the day thanks again.

Take heart @bilbojenkins5923. Plenty of people have decided to keep theirs. You might just consider that the 8-Speed is the weak link in the chain and budget for flushes with better than OEM spec fluid. Perhaps a company like Jasper will engineer a replacement that fixes this problem in the future. For now, use your manufacturer warranty. It may cover the extra flush maintenance. You've got options and a path to keep the truck you love.

@user-bj8qp4fg6m appreciate that. Our Colorado had high miles. The flush was our only remedy short of a rebuild.
