Solving the Noita Cauldron Mystery: A Beginning? Alchemy Historical Theory 

This game has the most INSANE secrets I ever saw. The fact that some are still un-solved breaks my brain.

I'm guessing in the cauldron you are supposed to make the philosopher's stone. There's a lot more elaborations and variations but in most cases the philosopher's stone has 4 main stages: nigredo (death; depression; swamp), albedo (rebirth; the moon; woman), citrinitas (awakening; the sun; man), and and finally rubedo (perfection; gold; marriage). Void liquid could possibly be considered nigredo, as it sinks to the pits of the earth. An interesting historical note on phosphorous, it was originally derived from urine, and the person who did it was an alchemist who had let the urine ferment (nigredo) then distilled it. He had thought he was well on his way to creating the philosopher's stone (since it produces its own light, citrinitas?). Indeed, urine when mixed with lava in noita forms fools gold as a reference.

One thing I can think of related to the idea of "Pure Water" is that weird biome to the bottom right of the tower that is just a block of water.

Going by the assumption that Noita is heavily influenced by the Finnish mythology Kalevala, one might try to combine food (syötäviä), salt (myötäviä) and money (kotipitoja) in the cauldron, since those are the things Sampo creates.

Three being such a prominent thing in game has brought up a couple ideas. Having no computer to be able to play and test these ideas ourselves, I share them here with you. Three ways to see. Holding a tablet long enough allows the shift to translation. Has anyone gone to either the eyes or the cauldron and used the three ways to see. (Allseeing eye spell or perk, worm blood and the evil eye) Also. Has anyone done a total pacifist run to new game plus 3 and then brought Komi down and killed him at the cauldron as the one sacrifice under the sun for peace? Also using the Satikivi(sp?) possibly to open a path so the sun shines down on the sacrifice.

Has anyone tried getting 4 spells, each representing one element, inside an egg and throwing that inside the cauldron? That should at least be an easter egg of some kind

the suns are ingredients of some kind imo, and always remember "As above, so below; as below, so above." -The Kybalion. It still blows my mind on how much compounded knowledge required to have made this game. BIG kudos to the devs, something something decode eyes into the final steps... BTW you are on the same path I found myself on, but you kinda should brush up on your alchemy to make it any further. As above, so below.

hi there. i don't know if it got anything to do with the cauldron mystery, but i just found out something related to eggs: if you're at the island in the lake and got some eggs with you (on a wand or as an item), then get rid of the 'burning-man'-figure (i used the Paha Silmä), then throw the egg where the figure was before it get's slowed down like if there was a gravitational field, preventing it from breaking. Other items would fly through like normal. So could it be, that the island is some sort of temple for 'living things' represented in the intro as one egg. Then there should be two more temples (not holy mountains or orb rooms) likewise for 'the elements' (maybe bringing the essence-stones to ??) and 'technology' (maybe bringing ?? to the pyramide). Well, don't know, maybe it's usefull for someone... cheers :)

Is somewhere in the web a list, what failed solutions tried until now? I mean exactly each attempt? Which liquid mixed with what liquid in the cauldron... An so on... I couldn't find such collection.

Maybe too obvious, but my current guess is the end of everything is a list of sorts. Newton made the first two steps of the "actual" philosophors stone one being the net, a type of purple copper, and then one im less familiar with star silver, a silver? Antimony alloy sorry i forget the details. Along with metal "gardens" in a cylinder. Applying this type of logic, start with literal salt, and if im right the other words are allusions to other materials available in noita.

i don't know if this is new or if ppl already had this angle long ago but here I go. being inspired by the video I googled a bit and tried to find out more things about alchemy and stuff. DIdn't get very far there but there was one coincidence that i can't get out of my head. I asked google "Finland Cauldron" and the result was very interesting. Apparently there are things inf finland called "hiidenkirnu" which are also called giants CAULDRONS. Heres a quote from an article abou them "Giant’s kettles or giant’s cauldrons are called hiidenkirnu in Finnish (hiisi = a troll or a giant, kirnu = (butter) churn) " Notice that it has something to do with hiisi? I am on full cosnpiracy mode now, maybe we need to get the correct hiisi to the cauldron? Or what do you think? Am I just insane and should start wearing tinfoil? The wiki lists all the hiisi and that includes the alchemist(potion thrower), the friend which could maybe count as a giant and the hiisi leader could also be a "giant"

I think you can see Posiedon and his two daughters inside the first drop of water. Saltwater perhaps?

Maybe you need to do some specific 'quests' (like fckin around with essences and the moon) so the cauldron could actually "hold" the void liquid and then you could work with it

Clearly you just put cheese in the pot and heat it up to make fondue.

Has anyone just tried making the sun inside the cauldron? If the devs are taking inspiration from this book, then we should just try to replicate what we see. On one page, the sun was inside the cauldron and so was the moon, inside another.

At the beginning you mentioned gathering permanent water. I wonder if the essence stones or somwthing need to be dissolved in the cauldron using water from the holy mountain.

At the end you become as a result, an aquarium for the Gods😅

I'm a glass half empty guy, thus, I'm of the mind that this quest was either abandoned or was put in unfinished with future plans to finish implementing it later or to leave it as is just to drive us crazy, like the eternal neverending pursuit for the philosophers stone or something... A goal, secret, forbidden or unattainable I don't know, I would love to be proven wrong, but it feels like someone would have reverse engineered the data in the game to figure out the steps needed to trigger it by now if there indeed was some event available to trigger... Again, not trying to go turbo pessimist, but it's just my mentality...

*this all but my ramblings and theory* do we need 4 essences and water for it? But the 'seeds' with water then being represented as a flower which is the birth. To obtain and rise the Sun and subsequently the Moon to have it all balanced. In other hand I've read about Inner alchemy, essentialy Your body has 3 Cauldrons, lower, middle and upper. Might have to sacrifice yourself too, similar to Works. You need to burn off your impurities, clear your blockages, the more light will come through then and ability to manifestation steps closer. You come so far in the run, by the time you arrive you are filled with too much you no longer need. With a slight hint of why getting to the cauldron in the 'vanilla' way is needed. Need an empty mind. The sun might be the light. The clouds in the sky need to be gone for light to shine through, meditate, generate your Wisdom wind and clear them away. "Out of darkness comes the light". The Rebis in this, (merge sun and moon, depicted closely to what I saw in this video) also showed similar as Filius philosophorum, the phiolosopher's child(could be philosophers stone) Then there's a pupil of the cosmos and a hymn(I can't connect these in my brain at this point in time) Notes to myself: Cauldron is a womb. Kalevala runes. Väinänöinen was described as an old wise man, and he possessed a potent, magical singing voice. Väinänöinen plays kantele. A singing shaman connected to magic and poetry. Ursa Major/ Great Bear, a constellation in the northern sky. Alpha to Eta. Louhi/ Loviatar, wicked queen of Pohjola, icey enchanted sea at the bottom. Also the root of the world tree. And the tree rests on the North star, which in here correlates to Ursa Major. "Embedded with stars, it (Sampo) revolves around a central axis, or the pillar of the world" (Need to check older finnish music groups and the 1959 film Sampo). 9 diseases, 1 unnamed boy with no mouth or eyes, sent to Rutja rapids, originating sorcerers and wizards, jealous persons, and the creatures called Syöjätärs. Ogress, consuming violence and anger. Together with hiisi. Hiisi lore, Narva village. Tales of cauldrons of coins being caught by fishermen after having rolled down the cliff at Hiidennokka. More to in wiki of hiisi. Worth mentioning the cauldron is in snowlands. And if you were chased by hiisi, you should seek safety in a cultivated area. Shaman drums. Missing a lizard's eye. Jungian archetypes. Synapsis of games 'bosses'. Kalevala = red herring??

I wonder if you have to throw items, not liquids, into the cauldron.. You can get the elemental/poop stones when you use the essence remover. Maybe you throw the five stones in (sun/man and death/swamp/poop) plus a gourd (moon/woman) and a shiny/cruel orb (gold)? The shiny orb always seemed like a weird item to me, and the sunseed is used in its own quest. I wouldn't be surprised if the shiny orb was involved (maybe its current state could even matter), or if the cauldron being a cauldron is itself a red herring, and it actually has to be filled with solid items instead of materials.

What if Alchemical Precursor and Lively Concoction have ties to it as well? They both are variable and also contain 3 ingredients.

I noticed something imediatly and that is the huge stone slab above the cauldron. It looks like it's missing text so it might be that you either have to reveal the message somehow and get instructions for the cauldron or you'll get a lore drop after solving the cauldron. Or it's just a huge empty stone slab and I'm reading too much into it. I actually think you might be on to something here I wonder if you need to have all teh moon and sun stuff done to do this quest, so the scales and everythign are set up or if you have to do it all in one run. I also wonder if the guy with the baby would be of importance, first he is there with a baby or pink littke goblin and in the end there is a dead guy with a club without baby. So maby a scrifice of some kind at the new game+ 3 altar you mentioned?

Maybe multiple liquids in a flask can do something, i see a lot of mixing in the images, appart from the cauldron. 4 flasks in inventory representing the 4 essences. cooking flasks ? Water seems really important, water might play a big role in the cauldron formula. I'm pretty sure the philosopher stone or the famous ''red pixel'' is the end result, its the ultimate goal of alchemy. we got lively concoction, we got the Draught of Midas. On the tome of essence, 4 essences that form this ''visible'' world. What is the invisible ? Time ? The soul ? Life ? In alchemy, there's a white and red philosopher stone, perhaps we must create the white stone first, a white stone is for the purpose of making silver and then a red stone to make gold. According to wikipedia: ''the white stone being a less matured version of the red stone'' ( that sadly likely references the sun seed ) What makes gold; Draught of Midas, Ending the game with the work. Maybe a way to contain, combine or finish the stone at ''the work''; the ending. ''In like manner the Philosophers would have the quadrangle reduced into a triangle, that is, into body, Spirit, and Soul, which three do appear in three previous colors before redness" Body, spirit and soul ? the 3 moon achievements ? body; just with 4 essences. Spirit is the drunk moon; with the essence of spirit. The soul, the soul of the boss transformed or taken away. In a way the moon/sun is strongly linked to the philosopher stone. in the achievements and alchemy. and as you showed in the video. On the website you linked about alchemy, Golden crowns, red stones and the sun come up together in the pictures/emblems. im tired

Has anyone poured water into the cauldron, then killed the leviathan, and then checked the cauldron to see if the water is still there? Keep hearing today about Altar of Permanence.
