The solve of that second puzzle reminds me a lot of the pyraminx crystal. The whole solve is just 3cycles and you need to make sure they go in from the right direction. Cool video!

The gear puzzle you already owned is a face turning truncated cube, while the new gear puzzle is a corner turning truncated octahedron. They're very similar, because the cube and octahedron are "duals" of each other: one has six sides and the other has six corners/vertices. If you cut the corners off a cube just right you can make a shape exactly the same as cutting the corners off an octahedron

i think the reason the edges could be turned in backwards on the rediminx whereas they can't on a redi cube is because the redi cube has 4 (an even number) edges per face, whereas the rediminx has 5 (an odd number) of edges per face, so because of parities and stuff, odd numbers of edges per face allow for backwards pieces, whereas even numbers of faces don't allow for them.

the solve of the first one confused me. but not because i didn't understand. but, because when he needed to do the diagonal swap but couldn't get the edges to be in the right position. couldn't he have just rotated the middle layer by 180°... cause when he did that... it was solvable...

It's not. Most likely ball bearings or really good interlocking design so when it's in good position it goes into place
