The "high powered" weapons on board this vessel I called small arms in naval parlance. The interesting and important thing in this video. Is the mere presence of these weapons without their discharge, was enough to make evil go away. This is a perfect example of the judicious use of deadly force. The least amount of force was applied in this instance and everyone is safe. That is the preferred outcome in every situation. This is what we want from police. Although they are seldom trained to do this.
This is what we want from 2A advocates too . Sometimes the mere presence of your firearm is all that it takes to stop the other guy from hurting you or someone else.
«This is what we want from police» Come on man, it's a very different context. You are looking at private soldiers or armed naval crew. And as for cops, do you really know how police offeicers operate? They don't always deal with dangerous situations from a safe distance of 1km with a crew of 10-15 to watch their surroundings. I work with police officers everyday and it makes me sick when people say stuff like that.
@@onilovni1234 and yet the rules of deadly force are exactly the same if not more restrictive for the police officer. Yes dude, man, that's the way it is. The deadly force continuum is the same for civilians as it is for the military. The fact you don't know this means you need to do some more study. Law enforcement officials who do not recognize that their use of deadly forces more restrictive are dangerous individuals. they should get the f*** out of the law enforcement business. *** I have direct experience with close quarter battle. Stop your whining.***
Guy with body armor, helmet and shorts perfectly demonstrates fighting pirates in the work from home era. Who needs pants? The Pirates don't even know.
I would’ve been inviting them to try something stupid. I’d be yelling HEY WHERE YOU GOIN? The ship is right here!!! 👇👇👇 lmao🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love when bang bang stick make bad guy go 💀💀
@@JohnWicksmagazineevery pirate boat they shoot and kill and sink the idiots in it that's one more both it won't do it they'll learn they won't learn if they keep negotiating with these useless POS!
Shame they had to take all that ammunition with them just to take it home again. Letting the pirates go means they will just attack someone less fortunate to be able to afford a fully armed squad of trained soldiers.
They should have hid the guards and had them come out guns a blazing once the skinnies started scuttling the ship. That way you could eliminate the risk of them attacking future vessels.
@@Joe_Friday Actually, with maritime security, the absolute last thing you want to do is allow the skinnies to board the vessel. NOBODY wants a firefight on the ship we are escorting. If that occurs, we as security contractors have already failed. Owners of the vessels would not be happy and we would more than likely lose our contract. We are there to deter pirates from boarding and less lethal means will always be employed first. Lethal force is the absolute last resort. Of course we will fire warning shots across their bow at distance. Once the skinnies are up against the vessel and after throwing and securing hooks begin to traverse the freeboard, that's where I will pray for them as they are gonna get smoke checked
@@Joe_Friday Owners do NOT want their ships full of holes and we are not there to get into firefights, we are there to deter. We will fire only when all other measures have been taken
@@catadjusterZ I see. I understand your point. I didn't mean to actually allow them on the ship. I meant engage them beforehand. I don't know what kind of bogus laws y'all have to abide by. I would generally say deterrence is better but I figured in this case dropping pirates would be better in the long run. I thought if every time a band of them went out on their pirating missions and didn't come back they'd eventually stop going out.
Somebody pointed out that the Royal Navy had spent millions of pounds trying to combat piracy in the 21st century, but that in the 18th century they had achieved it by spending just a few pence on wooden planks.
Pirates actually start arriving five minutes into the video. They abort the attack and retreat without a shot being fired. Save yourself some time and skip this one.
I'm an Irishman, ex BAF three combat tours amongst many other combat drops, we've protected ships and retaken them, Somalian pirates are no joke, they've got their tactics down well it's just ours is better, one unit of us is enough and would nullify any threats, By Strength and Guile is how we do it 🇮🇪🤝🇬🇧
This is not a hired security company, this has been a collaboration with the Dutch government to protect ships in this area against piracy. The people on this ship are Dutch marines who provide protection. That they walk in civilian / sports clothing is because some are not on duty at that time, only when situations occur as in the video.
Thanks for that explanation about the guards/ marines. I took the freedom of copy-pasting it (with your profile name) a couple of places as answer other comments, there are many misconceptions floating around here.
@@ibrax5 They ain't weak at the time, in the presence of those armed guards on board. Seems the OP was proud that those filipino guys sacrifice their days in the sea, in the terms for trading. It's enough to be proud of, don't be cold.
Nice to see that some of the Shipping Owner/Company really cares by sending a lot of Armed Guards onboard while transiting Somali waters, if this had been done a long time ago, they might save a lot of ransom money.
The gunners should have been hidden until the attack, then the pirates would bekilled so they could not attack another ship. Do not announce your intentions. Just appear and shoot them as they attack.
There's multiple reasons not to do that. Mostly because the pirates usually have RPG's and can fire at the water line, even a hit above the water line can be expensive in downtime for repairs. Also it's in the interest of the defence personnel to scare the pirates of. Another ship is someone else's problem and creates work for security companies.
Trouble is with this approach the pirates will keep going until they find a soft target. So a short term setback for the pirates. Better to get the message out you want be going home if you engage in piracy. Permanent solution.
@@animalyze7120 exactly. There should be more opportunities for an honest days work in Somalia. Otherwise stealing will always the the better or only option.
@@shakranandi8542 UNLESS stealing becomes the not much better option due to the death rate. This can only help put pressure on finding the domestic solutions they need, as well as protecting legitimate shipping. Soft on crime approaches always protract the conflict further.
They just need to get get rid of the pirates regardless if they attack this ship or not. Otherwise they will eventually attack a ship or vessel that does not have protection.
That's why they keep doing it. They know no one's gonna shoot. I guarantee you if everyone just started ripping these guys to shreds if they got any sort of close, it would stop
My guess is that they are dutch marines. This approach seems somewhat uneffective. Just hide and have a shootout. Sadly these pirates were a generation ago fishermen. But they were put out of bussiness by overfishing by dutch mega fishing boats.
@Sheila Walker Likely whenever you open your mouth people roll their eyes but you never notice. I’m the type that would play along for my own amusement. Let’s say those that wish to do you harm instead just for a little hairsplitter like you. 👍🏻

The presence of high-powered guns on your Ship is enough to deter the attack of this pirates plus those Armed Guards roaming around the Ship. Imagine a merchant ship with machine guns installed on both side of the ship with complete armored protection. No pirates even on their screw mind will attack you. Cheers to the gallant effort of the protectors of the sea. Armed really safe lives.

Wow, ship with full protections of so many Armed Guards, no wonder when the pirates saw those machine guns installed onboard your ship, they just pass by and perhaps they will just look for another ship that don't have Armed protection
Theres a reason pirates were historically killed on site. Anyone congratulating these folks for scaring them off without firing at them just condoned whatever they do to the next boat they target without adequate defenses.

Pirates learned their lesson; they force to go out further but, in the end, almost all the merchant ship passing on Pirates area is well protected which means they are losing money just for the fuel of their boats
Wow, I started watching this video and I was like, "Where are these armed guards the title was talking about, this must be clickbait", but then all of a sudden I noticed it, a small peculiar movement in the brush, on the deck of the ship! I was like, "wait a minute! That isn't foliage on the deck of this ship, those are the GUARDS!!!!!". Such a brilliant and skillful use of camouflages! So effective!
Funny, and your right they should be wearing slate gray if camo was the objective. But they are wearing the anti-camoflauge so they stick out as armed military for the pirates to clearly see them and be deterred.
The mission was to protect the ship! Posturing, etc to prevent any chance of damage to vessel or personnel with direct action being last resort! Also, unlike pirates & terrorists these guys are bound by maritime law, international law, Geneva convention etc. If they were "attacked" then they would absolutely have "green light" to engage & defend themselves & the ship! Also, sounds like a Coalition Warship was nearby meaning witnesses but also backup!!!
@@allgoo1990 you seem to be not very good in the english language let me explain prepare for war doesn’t equal going to war pacifist countrys wont survive as over 5000years of human civilization teaches us
Pirates retreat when upon seeing trees and shrubs moving around on the ship, and being extremely superstitious, it was considered a bad omen. Successful tactical planning by the A Team!
I've always thought the way to make the pirates leave everyone alone would be to have a covert, extremely heavily armed shipping vessel, with a manifest of extremely valuable cargo sail around the area a lot. Periodically repaint/flag/name/modify the exterior of the vessel as camouflage., ..... Exterminate any attackers, after a while, and with enough pirates not returning home, the cost/benefit analysis on being a pirate becomes too costly.
These are amongst the poorest people on earth - they are just trying to feed their families in the middle of a war zone. And in the great majority of cases they haven't been violent towards crews. Fight them off, for sure. but there's no need for extra-judicial murder. Killing people is rarely the answer to anything - it just deprives kids of their fathers and builds hatreds.
Gonna have agree. Mother ships aren't cheap. A couple go missing and the sharks start following them around, the tactics will change. Granted they'd are just hired goons, by warlords. But hey. Black guns matter.
@@tullochgorum6323 "Killing people is rarely the answer to anything"... what planet do you live on. All of human history (and present day) says different.
If I wanted to view the water & all the pretty boats, I would have taken mine out to the bay!! The headline leads one to believe an amount of conflict will be resolved. This video is more akin to a home movie of a vacation.
I want to start a cruise line. Get the out of service cruise ship and go on a "Pirate" cruise. Of course the price will be very high. But not only will the meals etc be furnished...but the weapons and ammo will also be furnished. Just listen for the announcements over the PA system....Pirates spotted starboard side, first come first served.
Thanks sir for the appreciation! Some fellow Filipino seafarers didnt appreciate the presence of armed guards. I heard them saying..."pera pera lang yan! "May be they didnt encounter pirates yet.
Thanks for the translation of the Filipinos, interesting (I don't speak their language). Luckily for the Filipino seamen though was that the guards probably didn't need to have encountered pirates before, they would still know how to handle such a situation. They were highly trained soldiers, marines of the Royal Dutch Navy. Their shorts and relaxed clothing because they are "off duty" - except for a situation like this.
Great initiative by the Dutch government in using their defence forces for anti-piracy roles: a win win : experience for the troops & effective strategy to counter piracy.

I'm glad nothing happened but kinda disappointed at the same time. Who ever said an armed society is a polite society probably knew what they were talking about.
You can argue argue all day about all the aspects, intricacies, and nuances of meeting piracy with force. All I know is that this would have been a perfect opportunity to rotate the phone and shoot horizontal video.
What a waste of time watching that was! Title misleading. Anyone expecting to see any action give this a miss. Nothing happens, except suspected pirates circle the ship before heading off.

During Kristallnacht, November 1938, the Germans instituted a Progrom against the Jews of Germany. They were not armed and did not fight back.
