@yohan John Death row is even in the USA and other countries, i am happy that the Somalia are not corrupt, an accused persons wife died of natural causes and the court released him, the court system there is more efficient than those found in some corrupt countries.
This system would be great if there was real justice system in the country, and the lives of the people were in better situation. Sometimes is just accusations without physical evidence or proof of guilty beyond doubt. It is scary situation if you can imagine. Tribalism, revenge and corruption is pretty much in every step of the way.
These judges aren't corrupt I can tell you that with my life. But they could be too harsh and sometimes accusations without evidence could get more credibility than they deserve. I am not entirely sure on this though.

It’s best if they just execute the killers quickly. Imagine the stress and guilt for the poor mother knowing she could keep him alive but she has no way at all to get the £20k. The situation is killing her as well.

There other options such as taking blood money, forgiveness ( this one is most favorite by the almighty Allah that he said in quran encouraging forgiveness " And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers."42:40). However, is Qasas is the last option to check or stop human violence. I hope you get my point.
