MAKING A SLIDESHOW FOR RU-vid
Ever since forever I've seen slideshows on RU-vid, and wondered how it was done. So what do you do in such a situation? You search on RU-vid. So that's what I did, and found "Flixier". Not being at all tech savvy, it took me quite a few hours of beginning again, and beginning again. Here are the results of all the cursing at my computer, and contemplating contacting PayPal to get a refund. It took me quite a while to sift through the hundreds of cellphone photos to find what I've posted here, and I hope these are informative, and entertaining.
BUILDING SOME CATS SWING
About February of 2018 I had been boatless for about twelve years, and was suffering mild withdrawal symptoms. In cruising the internet, looking for free boat plans, I found "Hannu's Boatyard - Free Boat Plans". Hannu Vartiala has many interesting articles on the building of wooden boats, and I found plans for what he bills as a "12 foot skiff", which may be built from two sheets of 1/4" plywood. It looked like something even I could build. hvartial.kapsi....
Having been in boats from an early age, I felt the boat had to be bullet proof, and used 3/8", and 3/4" lumber yard plywood, instead of 1/4". The boat, christened "Sunshine Water", came out beautifully, but weighed around 175 pounds. Much too heavy for an old man to car-top. For several weeks I tried to sell "Sunshine Water" without any 'bites'. Then I tried to give it away, finally finding a young man who'd take it.
Still wanting a boat, I began again. This time using quite expensive, 1/4", marine grade plywood. Also, I had found Hannu's 'two sheet' plans required several very strange, and creative joints, and lamentations. so I used three sheets of 1/4", and one sheet of 1/2".
The plans were very basic, consisting of frame and panel dimensions, but no construction details. Fortunately there are heaps of RU-vid videos of hard chine boat construction, and I was able to muddle through.
After rowing for a bunch of miles, I do wish that I had used a multi-chine design, for better rowing characteristics, and a length that was more suitable for two-up rowing, as I would love to be able to take a passenger along as I explore the waters of northern California.
If you have any questions or comments, please do post them, and I'll get back to you for discussion. As always: Please subscribe, and 'ring' the bell for updates to the channel.
Cheers, and, I'll Ketch Yawl later,
