yeah that picking technique is good I'm glad you pointed it out George Benson plays in between the pick ups to get that treble sound . You can also do that on like a telecaster and get a similar sound a mellow one unless you can play right over the pick up
But if you play in between the pick ups so you know you're gonna get a more staccato sound but if you wanna play like long notes might change where you're picking
Thank you so much for the excellent and informative review. This guitar sounds great. May I ask how is the playability / ease of playing, especially compared to say a Tele or a Gibson ES 335 (I understand those are more expensive). I'm interested in buying a guitar for learning/playing mostly (90%) jazz and ease of playing is most important for me. I'm mostly referring to the action, and the smoothness of the neck/fretboard. I think the Teles and Gibsons have a slightly slimmer neck profile. I have past "trauma" of struggling through with a cheap acoustic guitar, before getting an entry level Martin only to be surprised pleasantly at how much easier that was to play on, and how it completely transformed my guitar playing experience. I checked out some of your other videos. Wonderful playing. Many thanks and greetings from Toronto.
Thanks for checking in! I think you need to ask yourself few things: What is your preferred neck length(24.75 or 25.5), neck profile(slim or a V shape).. what is the preferred strings gage?An action(strings height), is something that can be adjusted obviously. For jazz, I like having a 12-52 set, and I sometimes put a 13 at 17 on my top two strings for extra tension and percussiveness.. 335 is 24.75’ neck length, and the Tele is 25.5’. Both can get a great jazz tones with the right setup, but they will never have the same acoustic dimension of a full sized hollow body. Let me send you to my guy for a further discussion at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zgRg0PeH0t0.htmlsi=lW7XjpkT-gA2YK_v The Broadway is a nice budget box and I find the neck VERY comfortable. I will do a follow up video on it soon with some added insights.
@@Avirothbard Thank you so much for the tips and suggestions. Update - I ended up buying an Ibanez AF2000, and very happy with it. Also, subscribed to your channel.
@@parachutes2005 that’s a great choice:). I think that’s their new 16” Jazz box made in Japan. I have had couple of Ibanez(MIJ semi ES336 style and MIC hollow body)arch-tops and they were great. Enjoy that guitar!
I have fear about the fact that the broadway is too kinda of pierced tone in the higher strings for reaching the Wes Montgomery tone nearly. I have now a Gretsch G2420T/FS and I would like to upgrade to a really nice jazz guitar that has a rounded tone in the higher strings. I see that this epiphone is shorter in its body (vertical lenght) rather than L-5 one. So I don't really know which guitar passing to. I'm wondering about the ibanez 2355 (ES175 replica by ibanez from the 80's) which I listened to in a video but plugged into an amp (Fender Supersonic). I don't know if it was the amp, but I saw that had a more rounded and fat sound in the higher strings. The video itself was this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K5MSvbgGrbo.htmlsi=YOdB3TsTLQdNp6in Can you help me with some alternatives? Thank you in advance.
This video was done with all-stock pups/strings etc. By now I have put a TOM bridge and changed the strings to flat wounds which Improved the roundness at the top. The 175 copies are different animals altogether and the amp does have a huge impact on the top notes. I always liked the top notes on the smaller guitars such as the GB-10/ES-125/ES135(or even 335) but the 17-inch(L5) beat them all with the bass presence.
Not really. I only had the Joe pass model. The Regent must be identical but it has a single floating mini Humbucker..so it might be acoustically louder, but not ideal if you need to play loud through an amp due to feedbacks etc.
@@Avirothbard I owned a korean Emperor Regent and sold it. due to feedback problems it was problematic to use it live. above that the broadway model sounds quite similar (fantastic). could you tell how the neck feels on the broadway model? on the regent model the neck was extremely large. also a reason i sold it.. greetings
@@samuelwolf735 the Broadway and the regent should have the same neck size/length(25.5)..I find it very comfortable though..however it sounds like a 24.75 neck is what you need if the ReGent neck was too big for you.
that sounds great but I mean it's left-handed so maybe they made it better but I heard a Phil Wilkinson play one and it sounded good he has the Organ channel but he also plays guitar. Which is very affordable but they don't have Ebony neck but that's OK
I have had a JP in the past. A GREAT guitar for the money and I regret ever selling it. I installed a Duncan 59 pup in the neck and it sounded like a million bucks. It’s smaller than the broadway as It has a 16” bout and the neck is 24.75”(shorter)with a maple top.
@@chrisl2206 They are different from one another IMHO The JP has more midrange while the BR has more presence in the bass…for me it’s like comparing an Ibanez GB10 vs GB20, or Gibson ES175 vs L5(on a budget)... And yes, stores don’t really carry them in stock so make sure you get a good return policy if you find them online. I saw a few used ones as well.
