I ordered one on Saturday, and it arrived today. Paid $849 + $60 for shipping on Amazon. Greased the prop shaft, filled the lower with gear oil, hooked up the fuel tank and it started on the 4th pull. Started pumping water within seconds. I can't wait to get it out on the water. So far I'm very happy with it.
I think I paid 1k at the time for mine, and I still am happy with it. So far it has performed flawlessly. It look like as long as you use the correct fuel/oil mixtures, grease up the joints and flush it after every use, this little outboard will last as long as any other outboard.
The only informative video and there are many of them on this engine. ( NOTHING from the manufacturer on these essential points). Well done and thank you!
Thank you so much. I will probably buy a 6 hp but this video is so informative. By what I see, these outboards are very solid, just need a little extra DIY to get it going. Awesome
@@ErickMartinSucreI did buy the 6 HP and I really like it. Finally passed the break in point. I did pull the propeller off, greased the shaft, and greased the throttle cable and zerts. I live in Michigan so no salt water here to worry about, but probably want to spray down everything so I don't have to deal with any corrosion in the future. Really solid motor. Thanks again for your video.
@@ErickMartinSucre Thank you. I hope it will last for years to come. Hope you're still enjoying your Hangtsu 😆, I laughed so hard when I saw that video lol
@@ErickMartinSucre was looking forward to getting up and running and i fell at work last week and out for 6 weeks i got a hear line fracture and the engine is just sitting in my kitchen 😭🤣but still waiting on grease and lube coming today and will get a bigger one in the future, thanks again
Just an extra tip spray the whole damn motor down after ever single use with corrosion inhibitor you can get it at ace, Home Depot, ext. I’ve noticed significantly less salt build up!
I just ordered a 12hp and paid $745 shipped to me. I’ll mainly be using this motor 10-20 times a year. I couldn’t justify spending $2500-3000 for a name brand outboard.
2-stroke uses a bit more gas than a 4-stroke. I think it is a good idea to have the big tank. That being said, if you happen to have a 3 gallon tank for a 10 mile trip, you'll be fine.
@@ErickMartinSucre thank you! How much gas do you think a 10 miles trip will use? 1.5 or 2 gallons? I don’t want to use the whole tank up. Definitely want to have at least 1 gallon left to be safe.
Maybe a gallon at most. I did a trip recently that used close to a gallon, and it was a 14 mile river trip. I spent those miles mostly on plane. The river was a smooth all the way.
The reason why Hangkai uses these HP numbers, it's because it keeps them below the radar of copyrighted materials from major brands. If you contact a dealer, or Hangkai directly, they will never admit to it, otherwise they get into legal trouble. Good for us since they are so cheap to get.
The foil will help with cavitation of the prop. Way back when ; many moons ago. Outboards ran normally on 25:1 oil gas mix. Motors have improved over the years and EPA requirements demand 50:1 on 2 stroke engines. The Chinese are good at copying whatever. Why spend money to design, just copy; seems to be the China way of life. I have thought about getting one myself to use with my dads old aluminum jon boat for fishing on the lake. Boats and motors have gotten insane expensive nowadays. Running higher oil mix for break-in will definitely make differense with the life of the motor. 73 Earnest K5EWM 👍
@@ErickMartinSucre I’m talking about the part three in which you said in the video. Those little “nipples” 😂. Thank you for getting back to me so quick I truly appreciate it. How are you liking to this day!
@@rickyw247 Dude, I love this little motor. I have owned a 6hp Tohatsu 4-stroke since 2018, and it's been great, but it is now collecting dust because of the hangkai. It fits all of my inflatables and loaned ones "Boatstogo" so well because is only had a weight of 60 pounds, the same as my Tohatsu, but pumping more HP. It does need some TLC when you get it, hence the reason I made this video. Remember, grease up those nipples well, lol.
@@Zanderman2000 To summarize, in order for the Hangkai company to sell their outboard clones, they cannot market them exactly as their main brand counter parts. The 12hp is a Tohatsu 9.8hp clone, and the 18hp is a Yamaha 15hp clone.
@@ErickMartinSucre I got a Mercury 5hp 4 stroke outboard for my trolling being installed this week. It is supposed to be getting hooked up to the main gas tank. I am not on board with the electric agenda so much envirmental harm in mining lithium. I have a 115hp outboard for my main but thats too much power for trolling. The nice thing about 4 stoke is it burns cleaner and you don't need to mix oil in the fuel.
@@candoslayer That is true indeed. Hankais are a fantastic entry-level outboard, or even permanent power planst like I use them, and are affordable to most people. These have a great place in the water hobbies.
@@ErickMartinSucre yep but they will have to update to 4stroke to stay in the market so what happened to evenrune does not happen to them. It is already happening where bans of sale is being put up in alot of states and arround the world on 2 stroke to get them off the water as they can't make them illigal to run but what they can do is stop production of new ones but eventually you wont even be able to get 2 stoke oil I fear that that day will be sooner instead of late at this rate. My dad has an old 18hp jhonson 2 stoke built in the 60's that still runs great. With this agenda though alot of yard equipment will have to be updated as it is still on 2 stroke tech. They are also now giving incentives to trade in your 2 stroke for a 4.
The 2 stroke 5HP Tohatsu is 102CC. That’s the exact same displacement as the Hangkai 6HP (so I’m guessing it’s closer to 5). Just bought a Hangkai 6HP for my 12’ Jon. It’s a great looking little outboard. Can’t wait to get it lubed up & gassed up & start breaking it in. I’m a tinkerer so I’m trying to decide if I want a different prop &/or hydrofoil but I’ll decide on that after I break it in & run it a bit.
very very good points my friend these are valid points they dont do from factory on these china motors, i always say, rather a greasy motor that runs for 30 years an just asks for its preventive maintenance? or a rusted corroded motor that dies constantly an starts to fall apart on the back of your boat lol...
