I "LOVE" your personality... I don't care what you are talking about... I watch you for your humor...your passion for 💐 flowers glows from your soul... sending... LOVE ♥️ LAUGHTER 😜 GRATITUDE 🙏... thanks for sharing it... Margie
I’m so sorry that your dahlias did so poorly. I can’t even imagine the disappointment. Thank you so much for sharing all your fails and triumphs. It’s truly helpful.
Last summer was my first year growing. I started all my dahlias via seed instead of tubers because I didn't have the budget for them. The seeds were fantastic! Plus, they grew great tubers that I dug up this fall (I'm also zone 4a/4b). I pre ordered discovering dahlias as well.... I didn't know we got dahlia seeds for doing so!! Thats so awesome! Best of luck with your dahlias next year. In my experiences, Id definitely recommend starting some via seed ;)
Nicole you will be one of those girls in 7 years and im glad I started following you when I did....well I wish a little early as I am playing catch up. I cant wait to get up to the current video but then I also will be sad as I wont have any new ones to binge watch haha. Just means I will have to re-watch them over again.
Literally bought all but two of the books mentioned! Felt real good when the last book she mentioned was the first every flower farming book I bought before this video! Made me feel like I’m going in the right direction. Nicole is such an inspiration! ♥️
Thank you for sharing the information on the books ... I just received a copy of The Flower Farmer and was pleasantly surprised to find the author lives only an hour away from me! I can’t wait to get started reading it! Thank you!!!!
Thank you for all your recommendations. Just a home gardener but you and Lisa MZ have inspired me to plant a new cut flower bed and start seeds. Curious about your greenhouse. Take cate. Be safe. 🌼❤️
I love it!! Thanks for the recommendations and the inspo!! I love listening to podcasts when I’m doing farm tasks....especially in the HOT CA sun 😊 Love watching your videos ❤️💐
I only own Erin's 2 books so far, (& they have been so helpful for this beginner cut-flower grower, & I LOVE how she splits it up by season!), but I got a bunch from the library, to help decide which ones I want to buy, but thanks for this because some of those you have, aren't at the library!
Oh nice! I need to order a few of those books! I really really like all the photos they have too! Thank you so much for talking about them because now I now which ones I need to order first!! HOW IS YOUR PUP DOING??? I hope he is ok!!!
You are so welcome! Willow is doing great! She had an allergic reaction. Not sure if it was a bug or what but we just need to keep a close eye on her. Thanks for asking!
Yes good bug bad bug has a second addition updated version available on Amazon. It will arrive on Saturday. Thanks for the reading recomendations. I had most of the other books you recommended in my plant library.
The little Thrips says, "Why helloooo there... Oh my what BIG EYES you haaaaave... " The Big Eyed Bug says, "Why hellooooo there yourself little one!" SLUUURRRRP!!!! 👁👁 👃 👅
OK besides Slow Flower which is fantfreakentastic ..... The Flower Podcast with Scott is also really good. He has a few of the podcasts on RU-vid so go watch the 2 hrs with Jennie Love at her farm showing you around. I am not only currently taking her 6 week course I have watched those videos a bunch. She gives some pearls in that podcast just saying. Scott also has a RU-vid with Grace Rose Farm and they show you around their rose farm. Yep just saying. You have just expanded your quarantine list of must see!!
You have amazing books right there! Good collection! I have a Floret book and am currently reading it. I am waiting on my Cool Flowers book to get here. I too have rented a few of those books you have there from the library. I would love to have the book Specialty Cut Flowers. I just watched two videos of his garden tours on Hortube Gardening channel. Did you see the videos? He just posted them recently. I am sorry you lost so many dahlias!!! I was crying over losing mine this year and I didn't even have half the amount you had. My dahlias had the same issues as yours did! Thanks to you telling me about plant gull, that's how I knew to throw them all out. Did you do anything to the soil where they were planted???
Really enjoyed this one, Love hearing about books someone in the biz has already fallin' for. I will be getting several, Thank you very much. Thought you might like this video from today's HortTube, this is part 2, so if you'd like you can check out the first one. It's Dr A's home garden ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hNp0xh8iigE.html
Within about forty seconds of getting the email from Floret about the Dahlia book I had it ordered. I am hoping I still get the seeds because she didn't announce that until a few weeks later. I wanna grow them from seed too! I am nervous about the import dahlia issues. I went hog wild on Jake Bent's import dahlia post. I have also done some damage on Swan Island, GoldenRod, Triple Wren, Bonny Blooms, and Dahlias by the Sea so it won't be a total loss if I have issues but more than a hundred tubers...sigh.
I legit want to throw all my tubers out and start fresh. Smaller. As much as I love dahlias, they take up SO much of my time when other flowers simply perform better. Decisions decisions.
@@FlowerHillFarm Being in 8a I am leaning heavily towards only digging them up this year to check for gall and then putting them right back into the ground 😂 I imagine I'd shy away from dahlias if I lived where I had to dig and store and divide every year.
@@FlowerHillFarm lol some times I wonder about 4 seasons I think we've had all 4 seasons this month today so cold and wet.. at least no 4 letter s**w swear word yet 🌻🌺🌷🥀🌹💐🌼 I m in quarantine also wife temperature free today finally.
I biught eucaliptus seeds this year, do i need to sow them this early too? I was going to start them in aout february. But i havent grow them before. Are they slow growers or slow germinators)))
Random question: what direction is your porch facing? East? I've been enjoying 'In Bloom' by Clare Nolan. My Swan Island Dahlias are the only ones that didn't have gall or weren't affected by lenticels.
Dahlias... OMG. I'm taking part in the FRESHCUTKY Dahlia Seed experiment thingy. Did you hear about that? I'm sure you did. Of coarse you did, I know you watch her. Anyway - I've NEVER EVER grown them before!!! ACK!!!! I mean, I've never even grown ANY Dahlia, not from a tuber, or a grown bush, NOTHING!!! I live in zone 7b/8a and really, all I know is they don't have to be lifted for the Winter here. So THAT lovely tidbit of info that I have is absolutely NO HELP whatsoever in growing them from seed!!! Now you're talking about rot, and gall, & all those other things I now have to find out about! Yikes!!! But I'm just going to focus on what those AMAZING flowers will look like when they finally bloom!!! Plus - bcuz they're seeds, and from her garden, the flowers will be a MYSTERY as to what they will look like!!! It's gunna be more suspense than a Dime Store Novel ! Ha!!! I can't wait to hear what you find out about growing the seeds too! IT'S SO EXCITING!!! Wish me luck! I'm gunna need it!!! ♡♡♡♡♡
I would love to buy Dr Armitages book but because I live in New Zealand I can't buy it. I wanted Cool flowers also but same problem. I've tried contacting Lisa through her website as well but haven't had any reply. It is really hard to get Specialty Cut Flowers. Amazon doesn't have it listed, well not when I last looked anyway. I'm just a little green around the gills that you can get these lovely books but I can't :( Oh and by the way I enjoy you immensely :D
Natalie! I understand this! So, Dr. Armitage said he would ship overseas if you send him an email. You just have to pay the extra shipping. He'll get you the estimate if you send him your address- Bummer about Cool Flowers, I can't help you there!
Good morning from me, gorgeous! I’m very impressed with your flower library 📚 Have you heard about Micheal Gaffney? I know he is not growing flowers but he came up with an interesting system of flowers arrangements. 🥰
This is why I’m living in the wrong place. There’s a big library here in my town and they did not have a single flower farming book. They had to request them from out of state library’s Grrrrrrrrr
I actually had to request the Floret books FOR my library. They were more than happy to order it. Many times they have memorial dollars to put towards "gardening" themes and they don't know where to spend the money- I'm sure suggestions would be recommended!
@@FlowerHillFarm No gardening books of any sort but lots and lots of Harlequin romances! Oh well, I guess they have to purchase according to the taste of the community
Some books worth checking out from UK authors - In Bloom by Clare Nolan, The Cut Flower Patch by Louise Curley and The Cutting Garden by Sarah Raven. These are really aimed more at a general audience rather than specifically flower farmers but still worth checking out - although bear in mind they are written with milder UK summers and winters in mind
Look up the pronunciation of narcissus ....you’re saying it like the person who is obsessed with themself....stress is on the second syllable, not the first. Both words come from the same root....name of a Greek god .
