The 1959 Billy Wilder classic about two musicians masquerading as women to escape the mob is regarded as one of the greatest film comedies in history - and now it's inspired a Broadway musical. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with stage stars Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee and Adrianna Hicks about taking on roles made famous by Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe on screen.

Chills about the comment about the man from the audience needing to be nicer to his son! I saw it last month with a bunch of LGBTQ kids from WV, and we loved it. We went to the Broadway museum as well and the kids were able to see how drag has always been part of theater ❤️

Billy Wilder, the director of the film, is still underappreciated. He did two of the greatest comedies - "Some Like it Hot" and "The Apartment" and some of the greatest dramas - "Sunset Boulevard," "Stalag 17," "Double Indemnity," and "The Lost Weekend." I can think of no other director with such range.

Saw this show during a NYC trip in January. Loved it. It carries the same fun screwball comedy spirit as the 1959 film, while evolving its themes to meet our modern times. The last musical number (the big chase scene with the revolving doors) is so much fun!

That last line from the movie 🎥 Some Like it Hot 🔥 is such a loaded classic! 🤣😭 The best part about it is that after watching what came before ,the punchline at the end was more hilarious 😂 than offensive to audiences from nearly 65 years ago! 🤣😭😂😘🤗🤗🎥🎥👍

I like how the director says “it doesn’t fly now”. Much of the humor of the movie just doesn’t come across as well in modern times because it’s based on tired jokes relying on men in heels or dresses, and the only gag being that they are in the first place. It’s frustrating to go to a musical/play, and discover that any time a “cross-dressing” character enters the stage, there’s still a chorus of laughter from the audience simply for what they’re wearing. You wish we’d progressed more than that, but some audience members clearly haven’t.

@RobtinOH
@RobtinOH 4 месяца назад
@@nssquared9174 No one just "borrowed" someone else's work; they paid for the rights to use the story. Many studios and authors' estates have rules about what changes can be made for adaptations, so I expect the rights holder to the film were okay with this. And of course, every remake, reboot, or adaptation--even those that use the original title--make changes, large or small. Otherwise, why do it?
@musclsk1

This totally ignores the wonderful musical SUGAR from the 70s which is far superior to this current reincarnation. It is faithful to the movie. It does have some weaknesses in the book, but what a wonderful score. SOME LIKE IT HOT had a great production, great acting & dancing. But, the score, with the exception of 1 or 2 songs, sound all the same & is very LOUD. The revised book is absurd. I'm sure this feature was an attempt to gain an audience for a failing show. Last week's gross was 62.61%. I have a feeling that the show is holding on for The Tonys.....if it doesn't well there it's gonna be bye-bye.
