We are not in the habit of using such kits, which are common in the tropical fish world. Rather, we are taught that the basic principle is to pay more attention to the swimming behaviour of the KOI itself and the changes in its body surface, and use these to fine-tune the pond.
@@BlackCountryKoi There is a kit available in Japan, but I have never heard of any KOI hobbyists getting one; search the two words on RU-vid. 水質検査キット or 亜硝酸塩除去. As you can see, these devices seem to be common in tropical fish and river shrimp keeping. So why don't KOI keepers have such test kits, because it's normal for water to get dirty during feeding. Our common understanding is not crystal clear, inorganic water, but rather the basic principle that water is purified as it is polluted. The ideal mature water is based on how polluted nutrient rich water can be circulated to allow aerobic bacteria to prevail and we do this process as we judge from the swimming behaviour and body surface of the KOI.
@@BlackCountryKoi Indeed, the kits themselves exist in Japan. Search for 水質検査キット >>water testing kits and 亜硝酸塩除去 >>nitrite removal on RU-vid. You won't find any KOI people there, mostly tropical fish or river shrimp keepers, right? As such, they are completely unfamiliar to KOI keepers.

Ive kept koi over 30 years and i know what signs to look for , yes i agree you examin the fishes behavour first hand and als the water will become dirty as you aay during heavey feeding , this comes with the terratory . Im a bit confused as to why you say Koi keepers dont use these kits ?? Obviously you are talking from a breeders point of view where they have the ability to drop 90% of a pond and re fill in around an hour. Test kit are used world wide and if you ask a real koi keeper/ water keeper the first thing they will advise is to test water , especially when going through new pond syndrome like i am . I think its possibly time for you to stop dictating to every koi channel on youtube like ive seen you doing , i feel like you are by no means an authority on koi but you like to make out you are. I hope you have a nice day .👍🏻
Hi Davey. Great update mate. Use a syringe to measure 5ml of pond water and put this in the Colombo test tube. Mine measures 5m but in reality is only about 4ml !
Nitrates are never something I've been particularly worried about mate. In fact, I hardly ever test for them. If it was a massive issue, you'd have a load of algae and blanket weed growing. Same with phosphate. KH, pH and ammonia are what I'll look at if the fish are looking a bit sulky.
Hi davey, A other great update on the pond mate the fish in the main pond are looking great mate how is your health going I no what it is like being a diabetic myself mate. Steve
Nice long video Davey 👍 Great advice on the Nitrate spike. People do tend to panic when they see something amiss with the water. The fish in your pond are the best indicators as to the quality. Nice nano heater you've got there. Is that long on the Grow On? Hope you're well.
It was a bit long wasnt it mate 😂 yes the heater is destined for the sleeper pond when i get round to it. The fish have looked fine and no stress on the shiroji showing at all. Cheers keithe hope your well buddy , have you had that eazypond yet 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ar Bin Ya Me Mon, nice Editions shag with Koi and Trees, I'm struggling with my trees at the min it's not as easy as people think keeping ontop of them 🙏👍
Nice new editions. Love that larch bonsai!! Something I’ve not brought yet but must get around to. Hope the koi are recovering ok. Best wishes bud 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi what was the fish like from rodbaston Hall and the prices I brought 4 from a dealer that were from rodbaston English koi lovely looking fish lost the lot to the sleeping sickness that you covered never came across it before Would appreciate a feed back on the salt treatment and ratios used if you don't mind Cheers steve kite
Hi steve , sorry to hear you lost them , was it not pointed out by the dealer ? Like i said in the video you need around 0.6 of salt qnd 20+ degrees if you can , leave them for a week or 2 and they should be fine . Mine showed improvement within 24 hrs . Sleeping sickness or CEV is bought on when the nieve fish are mixed with bigger fish and this if left can kill as you know 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dave get a syringe and take from arm length from bottom of pond and let me know if reading changes as taking from drum will give false reading new pond syndrome etc
Hi ya Mark hope your good buddy , ive tried that trick in the past and to be fair it made no difference , ill give it another go and let u know , take care buddy 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I had it from one of the shows a couple of years ago , i think the company is still going , its the koi design company if i remember right Dan 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
